One of the greatest mystics. Protectress of Europe. Born in 1303 Died in 1393.

May I draw your attention to
the daily Gospel reading?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

CONSIDERATION
Being able to say that Christ lives in you is a penetrating confession of faith. It is also an acknowledgement that you are crucified with Christ. Suffering and opposition cannot be avoided if one is to steadfastly follow the Lord. But you can be sure that one day you will share in his resurrection, in his ascension. Saint Birgitta lived from this realisation. In all circumstances of life, she fought against war and conflict and sought reconciliation. She became one of the patron saints of Europe because of her attention to the diversity of peoples and her commitment to the unity of the Church and of our continent.

SECOND READING            Gal 2:19-20
I no longer live,
Christ lives in me.

From the Holy Apostle Paul’s letter to the Galatians

Brothers and sisters, I am dead to the law,
I am dead to the law;
I have died to the law
That I might live for God.
I have been crucified with Christ.
I no longer live,
Christ lives in me.
As far as I now live in the flesh
I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself up for me.

I will praise the Lord every day.

I will praise the Lord every day,
His praise is always on my lips.
My spirit is proud of the Lord’s favour,

He who abides in me, as I abide in him, bears much fruit.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“I am the true vine
and my Father is the vinedresser.
Any vine in me that does not bear fruit
He prunes it down
and every vine that does bear fruit
He purifies it so that it can bear more fruit.
You are already pure
because of the word I have spoken to you.
Abide in Me
and I will abide in you.
Just as the vine cannot bear fruit by itself
but only if it remains in the vine
neither can you unless you abide in Me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in Me, as long as I remain in him
bears much fruit,
for apart from Me you can do nothing.
If anyone does not remain in Me
he is cast away like the vine and withers;
they are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned.
If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, ask what you want and it will be done for you.
Ask for what you want and you will get it.
By this My Father will be glorified
That you bear abundant fruit
so you will be My disciples.
