Invitation
May I draw your attention to
The daily reading of the Gospel
This invitation seeks to convey the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
CONSIDERATION
We are quick to anger when we discover evil in our lives or in the lives of others, in the church community and in society. Perhaps we quickly want to eradicate it with all our might? That is a mistake. In reality, we cannot decide what the good fruits or the weeds are. Nor does it have to happen now. The judgement is up to God. In His time, He will separate the good from the bad.
FIRST READING Jer. 7:1-11
In your eyes, is the house that bears my name sometimes a den of thieves?
From the prophet Jeremiah
The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:
“Go to the house of the Lord
and proclaim this message at the door:
Hear the word of the Lord, men of Judah
who go through this gate
To prostrate yourselves before him.
“This says the Lord of heavenly powers, the God of Israel:
Repent of your lives ,
and I will make you dwell in this place.
“Do not trust the false slogan:
This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord ,
the temple of the Lord.
“But improve your lives; treat others justly,
oppress no stranger, widows and orphans,
shed no innocent blood in this place
and do not run after other gods, to your own ruin.
“Then I will make you live in this place ,
in the land I have given to your ancestors forever.
“But you rely on false and worthless slogans.
“You steal, you murder, you commit adultery,
you swear falsely, you sacrifice to Baalim.
And go after other gods
whom you have never known.
“And then you dare in this house that bears My name
to stand before Me and say :
We are safe!
“But meanwhile you continue your misdeeds.
“Is the house that bears My name
a den of thieves in your eyes?
“Certainly not in My eyes.
thus prays the word of the Lord of God.
INTERLUDIUM Ps 84(83,), 3, 4, 5-6a, 8a, 11
How lovely is Your dwelling to me, O Lord of heavenly powers.
My soul longs and yearns for your sanctuary.
My heart and my whole being
Rejoice in you, God who lives.
For even the sparrows find shelter
the swallows a nest for their offspring ;
to me that is your altar, Lord of heavenly powers
my King and my God!
Happy those who dwell in Your house, O Lord!
Who can praise Thee there always;
Happy he who can lean on Thee;
He shall go forth with renewed strength.
For me, one day in Your courts is better
Than a thousand days elsewhere.
I would rather stand on the threshold of God’s house
Than be a guest in the tent of sinners.
Alleluia Ps 119 (118), 18
Alleluia.
Open my eyes to see, O Lord
the glory of your law.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 13, 24-30
Let the wheat and the weeds grow together until the harvest.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ According to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to the crowd:
“The kingdom of heaven
is like a man who has sown good seed in his field;
But while the people slept, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the weeds,
He sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.
“When the stalks germinated and bore fruit ,
the weeds were also seen.
“Then the servants went to their lord and said to him, ‘Lord, you have sown good seed:
Lord, you have sown good seed in your field, haven’t you?
How is it that there are weeds on it?
“He answered them
This is the work of an enemy.
“The servants said to him:
Wilt thou then that we glean together?
“But he said:
No, I am afraid that
when you gather the weeds
you will pick the wheat with it.
Let them grow together until harvest time
and at harvest time I will say to the reapers:
Collect the weeds first
and bind them in canisters to burn them ;
but keep the wheat in my barn”.
