Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day
Consideration
The final encounter with God will reveal who has done right and who has done wrong. God’s kingdom has two times: the earthly time and the heavenly time. In our time, sowing is done with a view to the final harvest. In the heavenly age, there is only a good harvest. We may prepare for the final encounter with God by being receptive to his Word and living it.
FIRST READING Jer. 14:17-22
Remember, Lord, your covenant with us and do not break it.
From the Prophet Jeremiah
I should weep,
day and night, without ceasing,
for a terrible calamity has struck my daughter,
By a heavy blow my people lie felled.
When I go out of the city ,
then I see them there felled by the sword.
Do I go into the city,
then I see them there, worn out by hunger.
Even prophets and priests
are dragged away to an unknown land.
Hast Thou, Lord, rejected Judah,
hast Thou turned away from Zion?
Why hast Thou so smitten us
That there is no more healing?
We hoped for peace, but it did not come,
for a time of restoration,
but the horror continued.
Lord, we acknowledge our crimes
and the guilt of our forefathers.
We have indeed sinned against You.
For Your Name’s sake, do not reject us,
do not drag Your glorious throne through the mud.
Remember still thy covenant with us
and do not break it.
Do the gods of the nations sometimes bring rain
or does heaven itself send it down?
Nay, it is Thou,
Lord our God.
We hope in Thee,
for all this comes from Thee.
INTERLUDIUM Hymns Ps. 79(78), 8, 9, 11, 13
God of our salvation, for Your Name’s sake, deliver us.
Let us not atone for past sins,
meet us with Your mercy,
for we are but weak men.
Ah help us, God of our salvation, for your Name’s sake,
deliver us, forgive our sins;
let no one say: where is their God now?
To You rise the groaning of the handcuffed,
deliver with Your power those who are consecrated to death.
But we are Your people, Lord, Your own flock,
we will praise You for ever,
singing your praise from generation to generation.
ALLELUIA Ps. 119(118), 18
Alleluia.
Open my eyes to behold, Lord,
the glory of your law.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 13, 36-43
As the weeds are gathered together and burned in the fire,
so shall it be at the end of the world.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
At that time, Jesus let the crowd go and returned home.
His disciples now came to Him and said:
“Explain to us the parable of that weed in the field.”
He answered them:
“He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man;
the field is the world.
“The good seed, those are the children of the Kingdom;
the weeds are the children of evil,
and the enemy who sowed it is the devil.
“The harvest is the end of the world
and the reapers are the angels.
As now the weeds are gathered together
and burned in the fire,
so shall it be at the end of the world.
“The Son of Man will send forth his angels ,
and they shall gather out of his kingdom
all who tempt to sin and commit iniquity
To cast them into the furnace of fire,
where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
“Then the righteous will
shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom.
“He who has ears, he will listen.”
