the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
 Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration

When people look at who we are, who our parents and family were, there is something to be said about everyone. It often goes that way and can complicate our proclamation work. It sometimes makes us sad and powerless. Where it happens few miracles will be able to happen. Doesn’t the experience Jesus shares with us hold a call to look at each other with different eyes? With God’s eyes? God is at work in every person, even if that person is sinful. After all, God prefers to work with little people….

FIRST READING                         Jer. 26:1-9
All stormed at once towards Jeremiah in the temple of the Lord.

From the Prophet Jeremiah

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim,
son of Josiah, king of Judah,
came this word from the Lord to Jeremiah:
‘This says the Lord:
Go to the temple of the Lord and say in the court
to those who come to the temple from the cities of Judah
to worship the Lord, all that I command you ,
without leaving out a single word.
‘Perhaps they will listen and come to repentance ,
so that I may regret the calamities
which I plotted against them for their sinful lives.
‘Therefore say to them:
This says the Lord:
If you do not listen to Me
and do not live according to the law I have given you,
if you do not listen to My servants, the prophets
whom I sent to you again and again, but in vain,
then I will do to this house the same as I did to Silo,
and I will make this city a curse
with all the peoples of the earth.’

The priests, prophets and all present
heard Jeremiah’s speech in the temple.
Hardly had Jeremiah delivered the speech
which he was commissioned by the Lord
before all present, ended,
when the priests, prophets and all present
grabbed him and shouted:
‘Die thou shalt!
‘How dare you as a prophet of the Lord say:
this temple will perish like the temple of Silo
and this city shall become a ruin, without inhabitants.’
And all stormed at once towards Jeremiah
into the temple of the Lord.

INTERLUDIUM                   69(68), 5, 8-10, 14

Hear me because thou art merciful, Lord.

As numerous as hair on my head
are those who hate me without ground.
Those who torment me are powerful,
they demand injustice from me.
Should I give back
what I have never looted?

For Your sake I have endured every scorn,
though my shame rose to my face.
A stranger I became to my kin,
my own brothers no longer know me.
Caring for Your house has worn me out,
on me came down the scorn of those who hate You.

But my prayer, Lord, I address to Thee,
now is the time of mercy.
Hear me because Thou art merciful
And faithful in giving help.

ALLELUIA                   Ps. 119(118), 135

Alleluia.
Let Your Face shine before Your servant, Lord,
show me your dispositions.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                    13, 54-58
Is He not the carpenter’s son?
Where did He get all this from?

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

In those days Jesus went to his father city
and taught them in their synagogue, so that they said in amazement:
‘Where did He get this wisdom
and the power to do miracles?
‘Is He not the carpenter’s son?
‘Is not His mother called Mary
and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?
‘Don’t His sisters all live with us?
‘Where did He get all that?’
And they took offence at it.
But Jesus spoke to them:
‘A prophet is honoured everywhere
except in his own city and in his own circle.’
And because of their unbelief, He did not do many miracles there.
