Born in 1192. She was canonised in 1869.
Saint Sixtus II was pope and elected bishop of Rome on 30 August 257.
Beheaded under emperor Valerian on 6 August 258.
Saint Cajetanus was a priest, born at Vicenza in 1480. Died in 1547 at Naples.

Consideration
Initially, Jesus sees his mission as serving God’s plan with the people of Israel. This view is broken by a strange woman. The event substantiates the idea that faith is not exclusively Jewish, but will extend to all nations. Jesus looks across borders. He finds more faith in the land of the Gentiles than in Israel. What does this mean for me: over what borders can I look and what obstacles sometimes prevent me from seeing?
FIRST READING Jer 31:1-7
My love for you lasts forever
From the prophet Jeremiah
Thus speaks the Lord:
‘In those days
I will be the God of all the tribes of Israel
and they shall be My people.
This is what the Lord says:
‘The people who escaped the sword ,
found mercy in the desert.
‘To Israel, seeking rest ,
the Lord has appeared from afar.
‘My love for you lasts forever,
I will always be faithful to you.
‘Israel, I will raise you up.
‘You young men play tambourine again
and go dancing merrily.
‘Again you plant vineyards
on the mountains of Samaria ;
and those who plant them will eat their fruit.
‘The day is coming when the watchmen on the mountains of Ephraim will be
on the mountains of Ephraim cry out:
‘Come, let us march up to Zion
To the Lord our God.
Therefore the Lord says:
‘Rejoice before Jacob,
Rejoice before the ruler of the nations.

The Lord will keep us
as a shepherd watches over his flock.

and proclaim it on distant shores.
He who once scattered Israel
will gather them, he will preserve them

Jacob will be delivered by the Lord
delivered from the clutches of the one who plundered him.
Rejoicing they will enter Zion again,
they will settle where the Lord blesses them.
The girls will dance a dance of joy

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
In those days
Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
At one point
a Canaanite woman from that region came forward
and cried out in a loud voice:
“Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David!
“My daughter is possessed by a demon
and is terribly tormented’.
But He did not answer.
Then His disciples turned to Him with the request:
“Send that woman away anyway ,
for she does not cease calling us’.
He replied:
“I am only
sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel’.
But the woman came to him ,
she threw herself at his feet and said to him:
‘Lord, help me!’
He answered her
“It is not good
to give the children’s bread
to the dogs.
“Well done, Lord!
-said she.
For even the dogs eat the crumbs
that fall from their masters‘ table’.
At that, Jesus said to her:
“Woman, you have great faith!
Your wish will be fulfilled.
And from then on, her daughter healed.
