Invitation
May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
of the gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Consideration
How does God work in the world? He works in his creation. God is found in the beauty of nature around us. God is at work in the most beautiful part of his creation: man. His effectiveness is found in God’s long history with his people. It is a history of trials and errors in which God’s faithfulness to his promises remains steadfast. After all, He works with small and weak people. This is what Paul wants to make clear to the Corinthians and to us.
FIRST READING I Cor. 1:26-31
What was weak before the world, God chose.
From the holy apostle Paul’s first letter to the Christians in Corinth.
From Corinth
Brothers and sisters, consider your own vocation,
Consider your own vocation.
By human standards, not many were learned,
not many powerful,
nor many of high birth.
No, what is foolish to the world
has God chosen to shame the wise;
What is weak to the world
has God chosen to shame the strong;
What is of low and insignificant birth to the world
God has chosen;
what is nothing
To destroy what is something
So that none can boast before God.
Thanks be to Him for you in Christ Jesus
who of God has become all our wisdom, our righteousness
our righteousness, sanctification and redemption.
Therefore: as it is written,
‘If anyone wishes to boast
let him glory in the Lord’.
INTERLUDIUM Ps 33(32), 12-13, 18-19, 20-21
Blessed is the people who have the Lord as their God,
the people chosen by him to be his inheritance.
Blessed is the people who have the Lord as their God,
the people chosen by him to be his inheritance.
From heaven above, God looks down,
He looks down on the children of men.
But it is God who preserves His servants,
those who trust in His favour.
That He will save them from death,
in times of famine He will feed them.
Therefore, our hearts trust in the Lord,
He is our shield and our helper.
Therefore He is the joy of our hearts,
His holy Name our refuge.
ALLELUIA John 8:12
Alleluia.
I am the light of the world, says the Lord;
He who follows me has the light of life.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 25:14-30
Because you were faithful over a small :
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
At that time, Jesus told his disciples this parable:
‘It will happen to the kingdom of heaven as it happened to a man
who, when he went out
called his servants
to entrust them with his goods.
‘To one he gave five talents
To another two,
to a third one,
to each according to his ability.
‘And he departed.
‘The one who had been given the five talents
immediately went to work with them and got five more.
‘Similarly, the one who had got the two talents got two more.
‘But the one who had got one talent
went and dug a hole in the ground
and hid his master’s money.
‘Long after that, the master of those servants came back and made a reckoning with them.
And settled with them.
‘The one who had received the five talents came forward
and offered five talents more, saying: ‘Lord, five talents you have entrusted to me:
Lord, five talents you have entrusted to me;
Behold, here are five talents that I have received in addition.
‘His master said to him
Excellent, good and faithful servant
You are faithful over little, I will appoint you over much.
‘Enter into the joy of your master.
‘Then the one with the two talents came forward and said: ‘Lord, you have entrusted me with two talents:
Lord, two talents you have entrusted to me;
Behold, I have gained two talents with him.
‘His master said to him
Excellent, good and faithful servant
You are faithful over little, I will appoint you over much.
‘Enter into the joy of your master.
‘Finally
the one who had been given a talent also came forward and said: ‘Lord, I have experienced that you are a hard man:
Lord, I have experienced that you are a hard man,
that you reap where you have not sown
and reap where you have not sown.
‘Therefore I was afraid
and went and hid your talent in the ground.
‘Here is your possession again.
‘But his master answered him
‘Poor and lazy servant,
did you know that I reap where I have not sown
and I reap where I have not sown?
‘That is why you should have deposited my money with the bankers,
then on my arrival
Recovered my goods with interest.
‘So take that talent away from him
And give it to the one who has the ten talents.
‘For to everyone who has it will be given ,
and to everyone who has it will be given in abundance;
But he who has not ,
even what he has will be taken away from him.
‘And cast that unprofitable servant into darkness;
There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth’.

Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCUS
On brotherhood and social friendship
Human rights are not universal enough
22. It is often noted that, in practice, human rights do not apply equally to all
all people equally. Respecting these rights ‘is a prerequisite
for the social and economic development of a country.
When people’s dignity is respected and their rights are recognised and guaranteed, they flourish.
are recognised and guaranteed, creativity and ingenuity also flourish
and the human personality can develop its multifaceted initiatives
develop for the common good’. But ‘when one
attentively observes our contemporary societies, one encounters countless contradictions that lead us
to wonder whether the equal dignity of all human beings
solemnly proclaimed 70 years ago, is in all circumstances truly recognised, respected, protected and promoted?
Today, many forms of injustice still exist in the world, fuelled by limited anthropological
ideas and by an economic model based on profit that does not hesitate to exploit, discard and even kill.
While part of humanity lives in opulence, another part of humanity sees how
its dignity is ignored, belittled or trampled upon, how its fundamental rights are
ignored or violated .
What does this say about equal rights based on equal human dignity?
