This invitation seeks to convey the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of the Word of God.

Both Moses and Jesus ask their listeners to listen carefully to their words.
To listen carefully to their words.
To really listen to what the other person wants to say to us
requires attention and a lot of effort.
If we practice listening
we will also be better able to listen to the vulnerable voices around us:
the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.
On this Creation Sunday, we pray with even more urgency
for the care of the earth, our common home, and for all who inhabit it.
And for all who inhabit it.
Let us praise and thank God for his creation
and pray for strength and wisdom for all
who work for its preservation.
FIRST READING Deut. 4, 1-2.6-8
Add nothing to what I command you; keep the commandments of the Lord.
From the book of Deuteronomy
Moses turned to the people and said to them
‘Hear therefore, O Israel ,
the precepts and ordinances which I teach you
and act accordingly.
‘Then you will live and take possession of the land that the
which the Lord, the God of your fathers, gives you.
‘To what I prescribe to you ,
you shall add nothing to it
nor shall you take anything away from it;
You shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God
which I give unto you.
‘Act accordingly in the land you shall take possession of.
And keep them punctually
for your wisdom and your understanding will be shown to the nations.

RESPONSORIAL
Lord, who can be a guest in your tent?
He who is righteous and lives righteously
has no evil plans in his heart,
he does not deceive with his tongue.
He who does not harm his neighbour
And does not dishonour his neighbours
Who despises the wicked
But honours the servants of the Lord.
Who keeps promises anyway to his own detriment,
Lends not his goods at usury,
Is not perishable as a witness.
He who behaves in this way
shall not falter in eternity.
SECOND READING James 1, 17-18.21b-22.27
Be interpreters of the word.
From the letter of the holy apostle James
Brothers and sisters,
Every good gift, every perfect gift comes from above,
from the Father of the heavenly lights,
with whom there is no change or darkening through unrest.
By his own will he has given us life
through the word of truth
so that we are in a sense
are the first fruits among his creatures.
Receive with meekness the word of God
which has been planted in you
which has power to save your souls.
Be interpreters of the word
and not mere hearers;
Then you would deceive yourselves.
Pure and unadulterated godliness in the eyes of our God and Father
is this:
Seek the fatherless and the widow in their distress, and preserve yourselves from the pollution of the world.

GOSPEL Mk 7, 1-8,14-15. 21-23
You forsake the commandment of God and cling to the wisdom of men.
From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Mark
Once the Pharisees were gathered together
and some scribes from Jerusalem met Jesus, and they saw that some of his disciples were eating with unclean people,
that is, they were eating with unwashed hands.
After all, the Pharisees and all Jews do not eat without having first washed their fingers.
Without having first washed their fingertips,
because they stuck to the tradition of their ancestors.
When they come from the market ,
they do not eat without having cleansed themselves;
So there are many other things
they hold on to by tradition:
wash cups, pitchers and copper plates.
This is why the Pharisees and scribes asked Jesus
question:
‘Why don’t your disciples behave
according to the tradition of their ancestors ,
but eat with unclean hands?’
He answered them.
‘How rightly Isaiah prophesied about you hypocrites!
Thus it is written:
This people honours Me with their lips
but their heart is far from Me.
They honour Me, but without meaning
and human laws is what they teach.
‘You forsake the commandment of God
and cling to the wisdom of men’.
Then He called the people and spoke to them:
‘Listen to Me, all of you, and you will understand:
nothing can defile a man
that which comes into him from outside.
‘But what comes out of man ,
that defiles a man.
‘For from within, from the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication
come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, robbery, murder,
adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit,
licentiousness, envy, envy, blasphemy, pride, levity.
‘All these evil things come from within
and defile a person.
