May I draw your attention to
The daily reading of the Gospel

This invitation seeks to convey the joy

Consideration

Paul is the founder of the Church of Corinth. Therefore, he is their spiritual father. Therefore, he also has an inalienable responsibility towards them. From that responsibility, he counsels their conceited attitude. You are apparently already full; you are already rich; you rule without us’. A huge contrast follows between the Corinthians’ conceited attitude and the life of an apostle. It is a harsh text, but Paul would not be Paul if he did not end with some kind words of reconciliation.

FIRST READING                  I Cor 4:6-15

We are hungry, thirsty and naked.

From the holy apostle Paul’s first letter to the Christians of Corinth

Brothers and sisters,

This story of mine and Apollos
is meant as a lesson for you.
From us you should learn
not to go beyond what is written;
so that none of you ends up
glorifies one person at the expense of another.

By the way friend, who thinks he is so important?
What do you have that is not given to you?
And if everything is given to you,
then why all the fuss as if it all comes from you?
Apparently, you are already satiated,
you are already rich, you already rule without us!
Ah, if that were true,
then maybe we could share in your rule!
For us apostles, God has, I believe!
the smallest place: that of those condemned to death.
We have become a spectacle for the whole world,
for angels and men:
We are fools for Christ,
you are so wise in Christ;
we are weak, you are strong
you honoured, we despised.
To this moment we are hungry and thirsty
we are naked and beaten
we are destitute and exhausted by manual labour.
If we are taunted, we bless;
If we are persecuted, we tolerate
We answer defamation with kindness.
So far, we are treated like the scum of the earth,
as the scum of the earth, as the scum of society.

I am not writing this to shame you
but to rebuke you as my dear children.
For though in Christ you had a thousand educators,
you have only one father.
It is I who, through the gospel
in Christ Jesus.

INTERLUDIUM                Ps. 145(144), 17-18, 19-20, 21

The Lord is near to all who call upon him.

The Lord is righteous in all his ways
And holy in all he does.
The Lord is near to all who call upon him,
to everyone who calls on Him earnestly.

He fulfils the desires of those who honour Him,
He hears their cries and comes to their aid.
The Lord preserves all who love Him,
But He drives out all who do evil.

My mouth sings the praise of the LORD
And everything that lives praises His name forever.

ALLELUIA             John 17:17b, a

Alleluia.
Your word is truth, O Lord
dedicate us to you in truth.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                         Lk. 6:1-5

Why do something on the Sabbath that is not permitted?

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

Jesus once went through the cornfields on the Sabbath day.
And to eat, his disciples picked ears of corn
and rubbed them with their hands.
Some of the Pharisees asked him:
‘Why are you doing something that is not permitted on the Sabbath?’.
Jesus answered them:
‘Have you not read what David did
when he and his companions were hungry?
‘How he entered the house of God
he took the showbread and ate it.
And gave some of it to his companions,
whereas only the priests were allowed to eat from it.’
And he added:
‘The Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath’.

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On brotherhood and social friendship

Globalisation and progress without
common direction
29. With the Great Imam Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, we do not deny the positive developments
that have taken place in science, technology, medicine, industry and welfare, especially in developed countries.
However, ‘we underline that at the same time as this great and
historical progress, there is a decline in the ethics affecting international action,
and a weakening of spiritual values and sense of responsibility. All this
contributes to a general sense of frustration, loneliness and despair […].
Tension points arise and weapons and ammunition
accumulate, in a global situation dominated by uncertainty, disillusionment and fear of the future,
and dominated by short-sighted
economic interests’. We also point to ‘violent political crises, injustice and
lack of fair distribution of natural resources.
In the face of these crises that
millions of children, who are already reduced to human
to human skeletons by hunger, there is an
unacceptable international silence’. Faced with this panorama, we find
us no real human course, although we are attracted
by many forms of progress.
