Invitation

May I draw your attention to
The daily reading of the Gospel

This invitation seeks to convey the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration
These verses from Paul contain a message for every Christian. The earthly is important and yet everything is temporary. This is how we should live: marriage, unhappiness, joy, wealth, everything is relative. We must constantly deal with the earthly; there is no other way. But we must never allow ourselves to be swallowed up by it. The reading follows the gospel by saying the same thing: evangelical perspectives invert earthly values and often turn everything upside down.

FIRST READING                I Cor. 7, 25-31
Are you married to a woman? Don’t seek divorce.
Have you lost your wife? Don’t go looking for another.

From the holy apostle Paul’s first letter to the Christians in Corinth.
Corinthians

Brothers and sisters,

For the unmarried, I have no commandment from the Lord,
but I give my opinion
as one who is trustworthy by the Lord’s grace.
I believe that in these difficult times
it is better for a man to stay as he is.
Are you married to a woman?
Don’t seek divorce.
Have you lost your wife?
Don’t seek another.
But if you marry, you do not sin,
Nor does the unmarried woman sin if she wants to marry.
Only such people bring trouble and worry on themselves
and I want to spare you.
I want to say this, brothers and sisters:
Time is short.
Therefore, those who have wives
as if they had none;
those who mourn as if they did not mourn;
those who rejoice, as if they did not rejoice;
those who buy, as if they did not possess.
In short, those who endure the earthly must not endure it;
for the world we see is passing away.

INTERLUDIUM                 Ps 45(44), 11-12, 14-15, 16-17

Listen now, daughter, be attentive.

Listen now, daughter, be attentive,
Forget your people, forget your father’s house.
Your beauty awakens the king’s love,
pay homage to him, for he is your lord.

Here comes the king’s daughter
in her beauty,
her robes of gold woven.
Dressed in splashes of colour, they lead her before the king,
With her retinue of virgins she approaches.

She goes before them with joy and cheering,
they enter the royal abode.
His sons will one day take their father’s place,
they will be princes in all the earth.

ALLELUIA             cf Eph. 1:17-18

Alleluia.
The God of our Lord Jesus Christ
Enlighten our inner eye
To see how great is the hope
To which He calls us.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                      Lk 6:20-26

Blessed are you poor, but woe to you who are rich!

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

At that moment Jesus raised his eyes
and looked at his disciples and said:
‘Blessed are you poor
for for you is the kingdom of God.
‘Blessed are you who are hungry now ,
for you shall be satiated.
‘Blessed are you who weep, for you shall laugh.
For you shall laugh.
‘Blessed are you
when for the Son of Man’s sake men will hate you
when they cast you out and mock you
and banish your name from society as something abominable.
‘When that day comes, rejoice ,
for great is your reward in heaven.
‘In the same way your forefathers treated the prophets.
‘But woe to you who are rich!
For you have already received what comforts you.
‘Woe to you who have filled your bellies, for you will be hungry,
for you will be hungry.
‘Woe to you who laugh now!
For you will complain and weep.
‘Woe unto you, when all men shall speak of you with praise!
for their forefathers did the same to the false prophets.’

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On brotherhood and social friendship

33. The world was moving inexorably towards an economy that, by
reducing ‘human costs’ through technological progress, we were led to believe
that freedom of movement had to diminish, and we were led to believe
that the freedom of the market was freedom enough to take everything for granted. But
the hard and unexpected blow of this uncontrollable pandemic
necessarily forced us to think about people, about everyone, instead of
and not in favour of the few. Today, we can acknowledge that ‘we have fed on
dreams of splendour and ended up with we have eaten ourselves full of distraction,
closeness and loneliness; and lost the taste of brotherhood. We
have sought quick and sure results and are weighed down by impatience and restlessness.
Trapped in virtuality, we have lost the flavour of reality.
The sadness, uncertainty, fear and awareness of the
limitations caused by the pandemic resonate as a call to change our lifestyle,
our relationships, the organisation of our society and especially the meaning of our existence to rethink.
