Invitation

May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share the joy of the Gospel with you.
Of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration

The wise words we read today seem rather expressions of common sense: they refer to very earthly things. But isn’t that where God is waiting for us? To be a man of peace, reconciliation and forgiveness: the gospel is already close at hand. Jesus is where people act on these values. Where do I find them in the people around me?

FIRST READING           Spr. 3, 27-34

The Lord hates the evildoer.

From the book of Proverbs

Do not withhold charity from those who need it
When you are able to do so.
Do not say to your neighbour:
‘Go now, come another day’
or ‘Tomorrow I will give it to you,’ if you have it now.
And do not plot evil against your neighbour
as long as he deals with you in good faith.
Do not quarrel with someone without reason
if he has done you no harm.
Do not be jealous of someone who commits violence
and never prefer his ways
for the Lord hates an evildoer,
but with the righteous he deals confidentially.
The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked
but he blesses the dwelling of the godly.
He mocks the scoffers
But to the humble he bestows his favour.

INTERLUDIUM             Ps. 15 (14), 2-3ab, 3cd-4ab, 5

Lord, who can be a guest in your tent
Who can dwell on your holy mountain?

He who is righteous and lives righteously
cherishes no evil plans in his heart
He does not deceive with his tongue.

He who does not harm his neighbour
And puts his neighbour to shame;
who despises the evil-doer
and honours the servants of the Lord.

He does not lend his goods at usury ,
does not corrupt himself as a witness.
He who so conducts himself
will not falter in eternity.

Alleluia                  Ps. 25(24), 4c, 5a

Alleluia.
Teach me your ways, O Lord;
Lead me according to your word.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                  Lk. 8, 16-18

The lamp is placed on the lampstand
That all who enter may see the light.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

At that moment, Jesus said to the crowd:
‘No one lights a lamp
To hide it under a bowl
or under a pew ,
but places it on a candlestick
so that everyone who enters can see the light.
‘There is nothing hidden that is not made public,
nothing secret that is not known
and come to light.
‘Watch therefore, how ye hear.
‘To him who has will be given;
But to him who has not:
Even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.’

Fratelli tutti

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On brotherhood and social friendship

45. This has now given free rein to ideologies. Things that until a few years ago could not be said by anyone without risking the loss of universal respect can now be said with impunity, and in the crudest of terms, even by some political figures. Nor should we forget that “there are huge economic interests operating in the digital world, capable of exercising forms of control as subtle as they are invasive, creating mechanisms for the manipulation of consciences and of the democratic process. The way many platforms work often ends up favouring encounter between persons who think alike, shielding them from debate. These closed circuits facilitate the spread of fake news and false information, fomenting prejudice and hate”.
