Invitation
May I draw your attention to
The daily reading of the Gospel
This invitation is to share the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience this joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of the Word of God.
Available every day
Opening the Word
God’s Word is powerful and sharp.
Sometimes it cuts deep into the skin.
It was the experience of the rich man
who thought he already had access to the Kingdom of God in his pocket.
He was shocked when Jesus urged him
to sell his possessions
and give the money to the poor.
Jesus wants to appeal to us too.
He calls us to leave everything behind
and live fully for the gospel.
Let us open our hearts to the Word of God
and grow in love and detachment.
FIRST READING Wisdom of Solomon 7:7-11
Compared to wisdom, wealth seemed like nothing to me.
In the book of Wisdom
I prayed and wisdom was given to me,
I prayed and the spirit of wisdom came to me.
I preferred her to sceptres and thrones
And compared to her
I counted riches as nothing
Even the most precious stone I compared with her
For all gold compared to her is but dust
And silver is but clay.
I loved her more than health and beauty
And I set her above the light
For the radiance she radiates never extinguishes.
With her all good things fell into my hands
And through her I acquired wealth without number.
INTERLUDIUM 90(89), 12-13, 14-15, 16-17
Refrain
Give us your richest blessing
And make us happy
Teach us to value our days
And so come to wisdom of heart.
Leave us, O Lord, how long wilt thou torment us?
Surely be merciful to thy servants.
Give us abundance of Thy blessing in the morning,
then we shall enjoy happiness all day long.
Deliver us now with joy from the days of suffering,
the years when things went wrong for us.
Show your servants what you are capable of, and show their children your glory.
And show their children your glory.
May your glory, Lord God, shine on us,
guide our hands in all they do.
SECOND READING Hebrews 4, 12-13
God’s word dissects man’s intentions and thoughts.
From the letter to the Hebrews
Brothers and sisters,
God’s word is alive and powerful.
It is sharper than a two-edged sword
and penetrates the marrow of soul and spirit
and joints and marrow.
It dissects man’s intentions and thoughts.
No creature is hidden from Him,
everything lies open and exposed before His eyes.
To Him we must give account.
Gospel verse
Alleluia.
Blessed are the poor in spirit
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mk 10:17-30 or 17-27
Go, sell what you have and follow me.
From the Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Mark
As Jesus went on his way again
someone came running towards Him
and knelt down before Him and asked Him
‘Good Master,
What must I do to have eternal life?’.
Jesus replied
‘Why do you call me good?
‘No one is good except God alone.
‘You know the commandments:
Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not commit adultery
‘Thou shalt not steal,
‘Thou shalt not bear false witness,
‘Thou shalt not taunt anyone,
honour thy father and thy mother’.
But the other answered Jesus
‘All these things I have kept from my childhood’.
Then Jesus looked at him with affection and said
‘You are missing one thing:
Go, sell what you have and give it to the poor
so that you may have treasure in heaven,
and then come back and follow me.
This word frightened him and he left bewildered, because he owned many goods.
Because he had many possessions.
Then Jesus let his gaze pass over his disciples and said to them.
‘How difficult it is for those who have money to enter the kingdom of God!
To enter the kingdom of God!’
The disciples were amazed at what Jesus said.
He therefore repeated:
‘Children ,
How difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God!
‘It is easier for a camel
to go through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God’.
Then they were even more perplexed and said to each other:
‘Then who can be saved?’.
Jesus looked at them and said.
‘That does not depend on the power of men, but on the power of God,
For with God all things are possible.
Hearing this, Peter took the floor and said:
‘Behold, we have left everything to follow You.’
Jesus replied
‘Truly, I say to you.
There is no one who has a house, brothers, sisters,
mother, father, children or fields
for My sake and for the sake of the Good News
or who now, at this moment, receives a hundredfold
of homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields,
even as persecution accompanies them,
and in the world to come eternal life.

Fratelli tutti
Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCUS
On brotherhood and social friendship
65. People are besieged on the street and many run away, as if they have not seen anything. Often there are people who hit someone and flee. They think only of not having any problems, it does not matter if a person dies because of their fault. However, these are signs of a lifestyle that has become common, manifested in different, perhaps more subtle ways. Since we are all very focused on our own needs, seeing someone suffer annoys us, moreover, because we don’t want to waste time because of other people’s problems. These are symptoms of a sick society, as it aims to build itself up by turning its back on grief.
