Invitation

I would like to draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel

This invitation wants to share with you the joy of the Gospel.

 Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of the Word of God.

Available every day

Consideration

Yesterday’s and the day before yesterday’s readings culminate in a beautiful hymn in which any commentary is superfluous. One can only be permeated by the ‘fullness’ of which this text speaks. The last phrase is a final chord that can be compared to the conclusion of the Eucharistic prayer. It is also an opportunity to become briefly aware of the greatness of the closing doxology we pray every day.

FIRST READING              Ephesians 3:14-21

Rooted and grounded in love, may you reach the fullness that is the fullness of God himself.

From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians in Ephesus

Brothers and sisters,

I bow my knees before the Father
Who gives name to every fatherhood in heaven and on earth:
May He give you in His immeasurable glory
May your innermost being be powerfully strengthened by His Spirit
that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith
and that you may remain rooted and grounded in love.
May you and all the saints be able to grasp
what is the breadth, length, height and depth
and know the love of Christ
which surpasses all knowledge.
May you reach the fullness that is the fullness of God Himself.
To Him
Who by the power at work within us
is able to achieve infinitely more
than anything we can ask or imagine,
to Him be the glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
in all generations, from eternity to eternity.

Amen.

INTERLUDIUM              Ps 33(32), 1-2, 4-5, 11-12, 18-19

The earth is full of the sweetness of the Lord.

Rejoice, ye righteous, before the Lord,
praise him, ye godly.
Honour the Lord by playing the zither
and playing for him on the harp.

For the word of the Lord is right
and everything He does is trustworthy.
Law and justice He loves,
the earth is full of His goodness.

Eternal is the Lord’s plan
what He has planned applies to all generations.
Blessed are the people who have the Lord for their God,
the people chosen by Him to be His inheritance.

But it is God who preserves His servants,
those who trust in His favour,
that He will save them from death,
in famine He will feed them.

ALLELUIAH                  Phil. 2:15-16

Alleluia.
Shine like stars in the universe
and hold the word of life.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                       Lk. 12:49-53

Do you think I have come to bring peace on earth?
No, I tell you, but rather division.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

At that moment, Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I have come to bring fire on earth ,
and how I long for it to burn already!
I must undergo a baptism,
and how distressed I am until it is accomplished.
‘Do you think I have come to bring peace on earth?
‘No, I tell you, on the contrary, division.
‘For from now on there will be five divided into one house;
three against two
and two against three ;
the father to the son and the son to the father ;
the mother to the daughter
and the daughter to the mother
the mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law
and daughter-in-law to mother-in-law’.

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On brotherhood and social friendship

76. Finally, let us look at the wounded man. Sometimes
we feel like him, badly wounded and lying on the ground by the side of the road.
We also feel abandoned by our institutions, understaffed and flawed,
or focused on serving the interests of a few, internal and external.
Indeed, in globalised society, there is an elegant way to look the other way
that is often used: under the cover of political correctness or
ideological fashion, the suffering person is looked at without touching him or her.
shown live on television, and a seemingly tolerant discourse full of euphemisms’.
