Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day
Consideration
As in many places in the New Testament, early liturgy and early Christian creeds have left their mark. This reading speaks emphatically of unity: unity in the Spirit, unity in faith, unity in love, for we all confess one God who is Father. In fact, one should read today’s reading together with tomorrow’s because the theme is: unity in diversity.
FIRST READING Rom. 7, 18-25a
By whom shall I be saved from this existence unto death ?
From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Rome
Brothers and sisters,
I am aware that in me ,
that is, in my flesh, nothing good dwells.
The good will is within my reach
but not the good deed.
I do not do the good I want
but the evil I do not want.
If I do what I don’t actually want,
I am no longer the acting person
but the sin that dwells in me.
So I discover in me this ‘law’ :
When I want to do good
evil forces itself on me.
My inner being takes pleasure in God’s law,
but in my actions I discover another law
which opposes the law of my reason
and which delivers me into captivity
to the dominion of sin over my actions.
Disastrous man that I am!
Who will save me from this existence unto death ?
Thanks be to God
through Jesus Christ our Lord !
INTERLUDIUM Ps 119(118), 66, 68, 76, 77, 93
Only let me know, Lord, what You dispose.
Grant me then insight and wisdom,
For in thy commandments I put my hope.
Beneficent art Thou and good are Thy deeds ;
Let me only know what Thou disposes.
Let thy mercy comfort me now,
Thou didst once promise Thy servant.
Through Thy mercy may I live,
because I find my joy in Thy law.
I shall never forget Thy commands,
because through them Thou givest me life.
I am thine, make me happy,
I seek to accomplish what thou commandest.
ALLELUIA Ps. 119(118), 105
Alleluia.
Your word is a lamp to my feet, Lord,
it is a light in my path.
Alleluia.
Gospel Lk. 12, 54-59
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke
At that time Jesus said to the crowd :
‘When you see a cloud coming up from the west
then say at once : There is rain coming : And so it happened.
‘And when you see a south wind blowing you say :
It will be glowing ; and it happens.
‘Hypocrites !
‘From the image of land and sky
ou know the correct meaning,
but why not of this time?
‘Why is it
that you do not draw the right conclusion from yourselves?
‘When ye go to the government with your opposite party,
make an effort on the way to free thyself from him;
otherwise he may well take thee to court ;
the judge will hand you over to the bailiff
and the bailiff will throw thee into prison.
‘I tell thee :
You shall not get out
until thou hast paid to the last penny.’

Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCUS
On brotherhood and social friendship
Starting anew
77. Every day offers us a new opportunity, a new stage. We need
not expect everything from those who govern us; that would be childish.
We have a space of co-responsibility that makes it
makes it possible to initiate and
generate. We must play an active role in rehabilitating and supporting wounded societies. We have today the great
opportunity to express that we are brothers and sisters, other
merciful Samaritans, who take on the pain of failure
rather than fomenting hatred and resentment. Like the accidental
traveller of our history, all that is needed is the disinterested, pure
and simple desire to be a people, to be constant and
to be tireless in the dedication to include those who have fallen, to include,
integrate, re-establish; even if we sometimes feel overwhelmed and
condemned to repeat the logic of the violent, of all
those who nurture ambitions only for themselves and spread confusion and
spreading lies. Let others continue to think of politics or economics
thinking for their power games. Let us nurture what is good, and put ourselves
at the service of the good.
To be continued every day at 7 am
