Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

FIRST READING Tit. 1, 1-9
Appoint presbyters according to the guidelines I have given you.

Beginning of the holy apostle Paul’s letter to Titus

From Paul,
servant of God and apostle of Jesus Christ,
to bring God’s elect to faith
and the knowledge of the true religion,
in the hope of eternal life.
Long ago, God who does not lie promised eternal life
and now, in due time, He has made His word public
in the proclamation entrusted to me
by a commission from God our Saviour….

Paul to Titus,
his legitimate child in the common faith.

Grace and peace to you
because of God our Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour !

I left thee in Crete with the intention
that you would complete the organisation of the church
by appointing presbyters in every city
according to the directives I gave you :
blameless men, faithful husbands,
whose children are believers
and not in disrepute because of debauchery or disciplinarianism.
For the leader of the congregation must be blameless
as administrator of God’s house,
not presumptuous, not temperamental, not addicted to wine,
not combative, not money-hungry
but hospitable, virtuous, pensive,
just, pious, subdued,
with care for the handed down orthodox doctrine
and able to admonish according to sound principles
and refute naysayers.

INTERLUDIUM                Ps. 24(23), 1-2, 3-4ab, 5-6

This is the generation that turns to You,
that stands before Your face, Lord our God.
To God belongs the earth and all that is upon it,
the disk of the earth and all that dwells therein;
for He founded her on the water,
fixed her upon the sea.
Who shall ascend the mountain of the Lord ,
who shall stand in his sanctuary ?
Who is pure of hands and pure of heart,
sets not his sights on what is evil.
He will be blessed by the Lord,
rewarded by God, his redeemer.
So does the generation that turns to Him,
that stands before the face of Jacob’s God.

ALLELUIA              cf. Eph. 1, 17-18

Alleluia.
The God of our Lord Jesus Christ
May enlighten our inner eye,
to see how great is the hope
To which He calls us.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                     Lk. 17, 1-6
If your brother turns to you seven times a day
with the words : I am sorry, then you must forgive him.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke

At that time, Jesus spoke to his disciples:
‘That annoyances will come is inevitable,
but woe to the man by whose doing they come.
It would be better for him
if one put a millstone around his neck and threw him into the sea,
than for him to give cause to sin to one of these little ones.
Beware of that.
If your brother has sinned, rebuke him;
then if he shows remorse, forgive him.
Though he transgress against thee seven times a day,
but seven times also he turns to thee with the words:
I am sorry,
then you must forgive him.’
The apostles now said to the Lord:
‘Give us more faith.’
The Lord replied:
‘If thou hadst faith like a mustard seed ,
would you say to that mulberry tree:
Untie thy roots from the ground and plant thyself in the sea,
and it would obey thee.’

Fratelli tutti

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On brotherhood and social friendship

94. Love, then, involves more than a series of beneficent activities.
The activities stem from a unity that is increasingly focused on the other,
because beyond his physical or moral appearance one
regards him as precious, worthy, pleasant and beautiful. The love for the
other for what he is leads us to seek the best for his life.
Only by developing this way of relating to each other
will we enable the social friendship that excludes no one, and the brotherhood
that is open to all, will be possible.
