Friday – St John, ap. and evang.

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

FIRST READING              I John 1, 1-4

What we have seen and heard, we communicate to you.

Beginning of the first letter of the holy apostle John

Friends,
It existed from the beginning
-we have heard it and seen it with our own eyes ;
we have beheld it
and our hands have touched it –
of which we speak :
about the Word that is life.
For life has appeared;
the eternal life that was with the Father
has shown itself to us :
we have seen it,
we bear witness to it,
we make it known to you.
What we have seen and heard we communicate to you,
that you may share with us the fellowship
which has been given to us with God
and with his Son Jesus Christ.
And we write to you
to make our joy complete.

INTERLUDIUM            Ps. 97 (96), 1-2, 5-6, 11-12

Be glad in the Lord, ye pious.
The Lord is king, the earth may rejoice,
glad are the lands around the sea.
Dark clouds form his bodyguard,
law and justice bear his throne.
Mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
the ruler of all the world.
The heavens proclaim his holiness
and all nations behold his glory.
Ever light comes to the pious,
happiness for the upright in heart.
Be glad in the Lord, ye pious,
glorify His holy Name.
Alleluia
Alleluia.
Thee, God, we praise.
Thee, Lord, we praise.
You praise the glorious choir of the apostles.
Alleluia

GOSPEL                  John 20, 2-8
The other disciple rushed ahead of Peter
and arrived first at the tomb.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

On the first day of the week
Mary Magdalene ran quickly to Simon Peter
and to the other, the disciple loved by Jesus
and said to them :
‘They have taken the Lord from the tomb
and we do not know where they have laid Him.’
Thereupon Peter and the other disciple made their way to the tomb.
They walked on quickly together,
but the other disciple rushed ahead of Peter
and arrived at the tomb first.
Bending down he saw the bandages lying there
but he did not enter.
Simon Peter following him also arrived at the tomb
and did enter.
He saw that the bandages were there,
but that the sweat cloth that had covered his head
was not lying with the bandages,
but somewhere rolled up separately in another place.
Then the other disciple
who had first arrived at the tomb went in ;
he saw and believed.

Fratelli tutti
Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCUS
On brotherhood and social friendship

140. He who does not live fraternal disinterestedness makes of his
own existence a laborious trade, constantly measuring what he
gives, and what he gets back. God, on the other hand, gives for free, to the extent that
He helps even those who are not believers, and ‘makes the sun rise on
wicked and good’ (Mat 5:45). This is why Jesus recommends: ‘If you give an
alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing ,
that your alms may remain in secret’ (Mat 6:3-4). We have
life for nothing; we have not paid for it. Therefore
we can all give without expecting anything, do good
without asking as much from the person we are helping. That is what Jesus
said to his disciples: ‘For nothing have ye received, for nothing must ye
give’ (Mat 10:8).
