Invitation

I would like to draw your attention
To the daily reading of the Gospel.

This invitation wants to convey the joy
of the gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration

God loves us. He has loved us first. Our love echoes his love and we are asked to share this love with everyone. But God’s love, revealed in Jesus, was especially focused on the most marginalised and the least. The gospel lists them: the demons, the lame, all those suffering from illness and pain. The love Jesus shows to them demands a response on our part. After all, his word is a word to be fulfilled every day. How do I respond in practice?

FIRST READING                  John 4:7-10
Love comes from God.

From the holy apostle John’s first letter.

Friends,
Let us love one another
For love comes from God.
Everyone who loves
is a child of God and knows God.
Man without love does not know God
because God is love.
And the love that is God
has revealed itself among us
by sending his only-begotten Son into the world
to bring life to us.
This is what love is all about:
we have not loved God
but he loved us
and sent his Son
to erase our sins through the sacrifice of his life.

INTERLUDIUM                  Ps. 72(71), 2, 3-4ab, 7-8

He is honoured by all the princes of the earth
and all nations serve him.
My God, grant to the king your wisdom
To the king’s son your righteousness
Let him rule over your people with justice
your arms with justice.
Then peace will flow from the mountains
and justice from the hills.
He will protect the lowly people,
he will deliver the children of the poor.
Justice will flourish in his days
and prosperity everywhere until the end of the months.
He will rule from sea to sea,
from the river to the ends of the earth.

ALLELUIA                 Lk. 7:16

Alleluia.
A great prophet has risen among us;
God has looked graciously upon his people.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                    Mk 6:34-44
Through the multiplication of the loaves
Jesus reveals himself as a prophet.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark

At that moment, Jesus saw a large crowd.
He had compassion on them
because they were like sheep without a shepherd;
And he began to teach them at length.
And when evening came
his disciples came to him and said to him
‘This place is lonely and it is late.
‘Send them away so that they can go to the huts and villages
and buy food there’.
But He answered them:
‘Just give them food’.
Then they said to Him:
‘Shall we then go and buy bread for two hundred denarii
to feed them?’
He said to them :
‘How many loaves do you have?
Go and see.’
After enquiring, they said :
‘Five, and two fish’.
Now He ordered them
to sit in groups on the green grass.
They sat down in groups of one hundred and fifty.
He took the five loaves of bread and the two fish,
raised his eyes to heaven,
pronounced the blessing,
he broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples
and gave them to his disciples to present to the people;
He divided the two fish among them all.
They all ate their portion.
They gathered in chunks and what was left of the fish.
Twelve baskets full.
There were five thousand people who had eaten of the loaves.

Fratelli tutti
encyclical by
Pope Francis
On brotherhood and social friendship

From the region of origin

151. Thanks to regional exchanges, by which poorer countries become open to the wider world, universality does not necessarily water down their distinct features. An appropriate and authentic openness to the world presupposes the capacity to be open to one’s neighbour within a family of nations. Cultural, economic and political integration with neighbouring peoples should therefore be accompanied by a process of education that promotes the value of love for one’s neighbour, the first indispensable step towards attaining a healthy universal integration.
