Saturday – Our Lady on saturday

Invitation

May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel

This invitation seeks to convey the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Introduction

The hymn on the creation of man contains a warning to keep God’s law. God gave man everything in His power. His wisdom can be measured by the order of all things in creation. It is up to man to praise Him. But it is also a great responsibility to be the image of God, to have knowledge and insight. From time to time, it is good to reflect on that image of God that we are. Have we, or have we – unconsciously – moulded God in our own image and likeness?

FIRST READING              Sir. 17, 1-15
The Lord created man in His image and likeness.

From the book of Sirach

The Lord created man from the earth
And brought him back to the earth.
He gave them a fixed number of days and a fixed time, and gave them dominion over everything
and gave them dominion over everything on earth.
He endowed them with the power that belongs to them
and made them in his image.
He filled all living creatures with fear of man, to give him dominion over the animals and the
To give him dominion over the animals and the birds.
They obtained the use of the five works of the Lord;
sixthly, He gave them the gift of the spirit
and seventh, the mind as an interpreter of His works).
Discernment, tongue and eyes
ears and heart He gave them to be able to think.
He filled them with knowledge and understanding;
good and evil He kept before them
(so that they could boast of His wonderful works forever).
He put His insight into their hearts
To show them the greatness of His works,
that they might proclaim His great works.
They praised His holy name.
He also gave them knowledge,
and a law of life He gave them as an inheritance,
(recalling that they live now because they are mortal).
An everlasting covenant He made with them,
and His judgements He showed them.
Their eyes beheld His great glory,
their ears heard His glorious voice.
He spoke to them, ‘Beware of all unrighteousness ,
and He gave them commandments for the attitude of each one towards his neighbour.
His ways are always before Him;
they are not hidden from His eyes.

INTERLUDIUM                  Ps. 103(102), 13-14, 15-16, 17-18a

God’s mercy lasts for ever,
He is righteous from generation to generation.
As a father loves his children
So the Lord loves His servants.
Surely He knows what He made man of,
Remember that we are but dust.
Man is like the grass that soon withers away,
He blooms as short as a flower of the field.
The storm sweeps him away and he is no more,
no trace remains of him.
But God’s mercy lasts forever and ever,
righteous is He generation after generation.
For all who faithfully keep His covenant,
keep what He commands.

Alleluia            Ps. 19(18), 9

Alleluia.
Your commands, O Lord, are trustworthy,
they make the ignorant wise.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                             Mk 10, 13-16
Whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will certainly not enter it.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark

In those days people brought children to Jesus
with the intention that he would touch them.
But in the bars, the disciples rejected them.
When Jesus saw this, he said indignantly:
‘Yet let those children come to me .
And do not hinder them.
For the kingdom of God belongs to such people.
Truly, I say to you
Whoever does not accept the kingdom of God as a child ,
shall not enter it.
Then he embraced them and blessed them.
He laid his hands on them.

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On brotherhood and social friendship

204. Today there is a conviction that, in addition to specialised scientific progress,
there is a need for communication between disciplines,
because reality is one, even though it can be approached from different perspectives
and with different methodologies.
We should not neglect the risk that scientific progress may be seen as the only
possible approach to understanding any aspect of life, society and societies.
A researcher who makes fruitful progress in his or her analysis and
who is also willing to explore other dimensions of the reality he or she is investigating,
thanks to the work of other sciences and other knowledge.
other sciences and other knowledge, on the other hand, is open to knowing reality
in a more integral and fuller way to get to know it.
