Invitation
May I ask for your attention for
daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation is to share the joy
of the gospel with you. Everyone, without exception,
can experience that joy by opening their heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every morning from 7 a.m.

Opening words
Lent invites us
to attune ourselves to the Gospel.
Those who are prepared for this conversion
and want to be Christians in the image of Jesus
will therefore want to listen to his Word.
God himself asks us today
to listen to his Son.
Let us open our hearts
to the Lord who died and rose again
who is given to us here.
FIRST READING Gen 15:5-12, 17-18
God made a covenant with Abram.
From the book of Genesis
In those days God took Abram outside and said,
‘Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can.’
And He assured him,
“This is how numerous your descendants will be.’
Abram believed the Lord
and he credited it to him as righteousness.
Then God said to him:
‘I am the Lord, who led you out of Ur of the Chaldeans
to give you this land.’
Abram asked:
‘Lord God, how can I know that I will indeed receive it?’
God said to him:
‘Get me a three-year-old cow, a three-year-old goat,
a three-year-old ram, a turtledove and a young pigeon.”
Abram got everything he needed, cut the animals in half,
and placed the pieces opposite each other;
he did not cut the birds.
Birds of prey came to the carcasses,
but Abram chased them away.
At sunset Abram fell into a deep sleep;
intense fear and darkness overcame him.
When the sun had set
and it had become completely dark,
Abram saw a smoking oven and a fiery torch
that passed between the pieces.
On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram.
He said:
‘I will give this land to your descendants,
from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates.”
Response psalm Ps. 27(26) 1, 7-8a, 8b-9abc, 13-14
Repeated verse
The Lord is my light and my guide.
The Lord is my light and my guide; whom should I fear?
The Lord is the guardian of my life;
of whom should I be afraid?
Listen, O Lord, to my cry;
have mercy and answer me.
My heart speaks to you; I long for you;
your face, O Lord, do I seek.
Do not hide your face from me,
do not cast me away in your wrath,
for you are my help.
Do not drive me away,
do not forsake me, O God my Saviour.
I have hoped for the salvation of my soul
from the Lord.
O wait for the Lord with courage,
be courageous in heart and put your trust in the Lord.
SECOND READING Phil. 3:17 – 4:1
Christ will make us conform to his glorified body.
From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Philippi
Brothers and sisters,
Follow my example and look to those
who behave according to the example I gave you.
For I have often spoken to you about this
and now I must repeat it through tears:
many are leading a life that aligns them
with the enemies of the cross of Christ.
They are on the road to ruin,
their belly is their god,
in their shame they put their honour,
they have set their sights on the earthly.
But our fatherland is in heaven
and from heaven we await our saviour,
the Lord Jesus Christ.
He will recreate our miserable body
and make it conform to his glorified body,
with the same power
that enables him to subdue the universe.
Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, for whom I long so much,
my joy and my crown,
thus hold fast to the Lord, my beloved.
Verse before the Gospel
Praise and honour be to you, Lord Jesus.
From a brilliant cloud
the Father’s voice was heard:
This is my beloved Son, listen to him.
Praise and honour be to you, Lord Jesus.
GOSPEL Luke 9:28b-36
While he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed.
From the holy gospel according to Luke
At that time Jesus took
Peter, James and John his brother
and climbed a mountain to pray.
While he was praying, the appearance of his face changed
and his clothes became dazzling white.
And behold, two men were conversing with him;
they were Moses and Elijah
who had appeared in glory
and were speaking of his departure
which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, Peter and his companions had fallen asleep.
They woke to see his glory
and the two men standing with him.
As they were about to leave him, Peter said to Jesus:
‘Master, it is good that we are here.
’Let us build three tents,
one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’
But he did not know what he was saying.
While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast its shadow over them.
They were afraid as the cloud covered them with its shadow.
A voice came from the cloud, saying,
‘This is my Son, the Chosen One.
Listen to him.’
When the voice had spoken
they noticed that Jesus was alone.
They kept silent about
it, and at that time they told no one
what they had seen.

Fratelli tutti
Encyclical of
POPE FRANCIS
On fraternity and social friendship
219. When one part of society claims it enjoys
everything the world has to offer, as if the poor did not exist, this
will have consequences at a certain point. The ignoring of the existence and the
rights of the other sooner or later causes a form of violence, often
unexpectedly. Dreams of freedom, equality and fraternity can
remain at the level of mere formalities, because they are not
effective for everyone. That is why it is not just about seeking an
encounter between those who possess different forms of economic,
political or academic power. A true social encounter
brings the major cultural forms that represent the majority of the population
into dialogue. Often the most impoverished sectors
do not appropriate the good proposals because they present themselves in a
cultural form that is not their own and with which they cannot
identify. Consequently, a realistic and inclusive social pact must also
be a ‘cultural pact’ that respects and
includes the different world views, cultures and lifestyles that coexist in society.
