Saturday – St Damiaan De Veuster,pr.

Father Damien Apostle of the lepers

Invitation

May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel

This invitation wishes to share with you the joy of the Gospel
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration
to whom shall we go? This is Peter’s response to Jesus’ question, at a time when many disciples are withdrawing and wanting to leave him. Resistance and misunderstanding arise in the face of what Jesus and his Church have to say. Eating his flesh and drinking his blood: that starts to sound very strange after all. Every day, or at least regularly, we hear the same words in the Eucharist. Perhaps we are still barely aware of the meaning of those words. Jesus wants to know where we stand today. there are some of you who have no faith’. Can Jesus count on us?

FIRST READING Acts 9:31-42

The Church was strengthened and constantly increasing in number by the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In those days the Church rejoiced
peace reigned throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria;
she was more and more confirmed in the fear of the Lord
and continually increased in number
through the comfort of the Holy Spirit
Once Peter came
on a great journey
also to the disciples who lived in Lydda
and there he met a certain Enéas
who for eight years had been
because of paralysis.
Peter spoke to him:
“Enéas,
Jesus Christ heals you,
get up
and make your own bed”
Immediately he stood up.
All the inhabitants of Lydda and the plain of Saron saw him and turned to the Lord
and turned to the Lord.

There now lived in Joppa a disciple called Tabitha,
which is translated Dorkas, Gazelle.
He was inexhaustible in doing good works
and in giving alms.
But just in those days, she had died after an illness.
The people washed her and buried her in an upper room.
Because Lydda was near Joppa
the disciples
who had heard that Peter was staying there,
sent two men to him with the request:
“Come with us without delay”
Peter immediately went with them.
On his arrival, they brought him to the upper room,
where all the weeping widows surrounded him
and showed him all the robes and cloaks
which Dorkas had made while he was still among them.
Peter brought them all out,
knelt down
and prayed.
Then he spoke and turned to the corpse:
“Tabitha, get up”
She opened her eyes, saw Peter
and sat up straight.
He held out his hand
and helped her upright.
Then he called the saints and widows
and gave her back to them alive.
This became known throughout Joppa
so that many accepted faith in the Lord.

INTRODUCTION Ps 116(115), 12-13, 14-15, 16-17

how can I give thanks
for all that the Lord has given me

how can I give thanks
for all that the Lord has given me?
I raise the cup of sacrifice,
i invoke the name of the Lord.

I will fulfil my vows
where all his people will see
For precious in his eyes
the lives of those who worship him.

O Lord, I am your servant
your servant, the son of your handmaid,
Thou hast slain my fetters.
With sacrifices I will praise Thee,
the name of the Lord I call upon.

ALLUIA John 20.29

Alleluia.
Because you have seen me, Thomas, you believe ;
blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe
Alleluia.

GOSPEL Jn 6:60-69

to whom shall we go? Your words are words of eternal life.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time, many of Jesus’ disciples said:
“This language is repugnant to everyone.
“Who is still able to listen to him?”
But Jesus
who himself knew that his disciples were grumbling about this ,
asked them:
“Are you scandalised by this?
“When you see the Son of Man going up
to the place where he was before …. were?
“It is the spirit that gives life,
the flesh avails not.
“The words I have spoken to you
are spirit and life.
“But there are some among you who do not believe.”
In fact, Jesus knew from the beginning
who were those who did not believe
and who would betray Him.
And He added:
“Therefore I have told you
that no one can come to Me
unless it is given to him by the Father”
as a result
many of His disciples withdrew
and left his company.
Then Jesus asked the 12 :
“Will you also ever leave?”
Simon Peter answered him :
“Lord, to whom shall we go?
“Your words are words of eternal life
and we believe and know that You are the Holy One of God”

Encyclical of
Pope Francis
On brotherhood and social friendship

273. In this perspective, I would like to remind you of a memorable text
to remember: “If there is no transcendent truth, in obedience to which
man acquires his full identity
to which man acquires his full identity, then there is no certain principle that guarantees just relations between human beings
principle that guarantees just relations between people.
The interests of their class, group or nation inevitably set them against each other
against each other. If transcendent truth is not recognised, then
power triumphs and everyone tends to use the resources at their disposal to the full in order to
fully use the means at his disposal to impose his own interest or opinion without regard to the rights of others
impose opinion without regard to the rights of others. […]
The root of modern totalitarianism must thus be sought in the
denial of the transcendent dignity of man, who is the visible image of the invisible God and the
is the visible image of the invisible God and for that very reason, by his very nature, he is the
is the visible image of the invisible God and for that very reason, by his very nature, is the object of rights that no one can violate, neither individual
nor the group, nor the class, nor the nation, nor the state.
Even the majority of a social body cannot do so by opposing the minority
