Friday in the fourth week of Easter

The Lord is truly risen

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Recital
Paul’s speech in Antioch of Pisidia is split into two parts. We know those early (proclamation) speeches to the Jews. Starting from a piece of history of the people of God, Jesus is proclaimed as the Christ. This is the core message: crucified, raised to life, alive with God. Today’s reading breaks off at the moment Paul quotes Psalm 2. Psalm 2 is therefore a fitting response psalm to this reading.

FIRST READING Acts 13:26-33

God has fulfilled the promise by resurrecting Jesus.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In those days, when Paul had come to Antioch in Pisidia ,
he said in the synagogue :
“Men brethren ,
sons of Abraham’s generation and God-fearing among you :
To us is this word of salvation sent.
“For because the inhabitants of Jerusalem and their authorities
Did not recognise Jesus but condemned him ,
they fulfilled the sayings of the prophets
which are read every Sabbath.
“Although they could not find any legal basis
for the death penalty
they demanded of Pilate that He be put to death.
“When they had fulfilled all that was written about Him ,
they took Him from the cross
and laid Him in a tomb.
“But God raised Him from the dead
and for many days He appeared to those
who had accompanied Him from Galilee to Jerusalem.
“These are now witnesses of Him before the people.
“We therefore proclaim to you the glad tidings,
that God has fulfilled the promise
made to the fathers
has fulfilled for us, their children
by resurrecting Jesus,
as it is also written in the second psalm:
Thou art my Son,
I have begotten Thee this day.”

BETWEEN Hymns Ps. 2, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11

Thou art my Son,
I have begotten thee this day.
or : Alleluia.

I myself have appointed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.
This is the decree of the Lord :
He spake unto Me : Thou art my son,
I have begotten thee this day.

Ask Me, I give Thee the nations as an inheritance,
give Thee the earth as property.
Break their resistance with iron sceptre,
smash them to pieces like clay pots.

Be wise now, ye rulers,
rulers of the earth, know what you are doing!
Serve the Lord with awe,
kiss His trembling feet.

ALLELUIA

Alleluia.
Christ rose from the grave,
He who died for us on a cross.
Alleluia.

EVANGELY John 14, 1-6

I am the way, the truth and the life.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples :
“Let not thy heart be troubled.
“Ye believe in God,
believe also in Me.
“In my Father’s house there is room for many.
“Were it not so
then I would have told you,
for I am going to go and prepare a place for you.
“And when I have gone and prepared a place for you
i return to take you up with Me,
that ye also may be where I am.
“Thou knowest where I am going
and also the way thither is known unto thee.”
Tomas said to Him :
“Lord, we do not know where Thou art going :
How then should we know the way?”
Jesus answered him :
“I am the way
the truth and the life.
“No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Fratelli tutti
Encyclical of
Pope Francis
On brotherhood and social friendship

279. As Christians, we ask that in the countries where we are a minority
be guaranteed freedom for us, as we promote it
for all those who are not Christians where they are a minority. There is
a fundamental human right that on the road to brotherhood and peace
should not be forgotten: that is freedom of religion for the
believers of all religions. That freedom shows that we can “find a good
agreement” between different cultures and religions; it
testifies that the things we have in common are so numerous
and so important that it is possible to find a path of serene
ordered and peaceful coexistence in the acceptance of differences
and in the joy of being brothers and sisters because we are children of
one God”.
