Invitation
May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel
This invitation wants to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception
can experience that joy by opening his or her heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Consideration
We see two sides confronting each other and the dicusion is fierce. The positions are really extreme. Then authority speaks. Not to just decide, but to bring the parties together, who listen in silence. Peter refers to his own experience with Cornelius. God himself pointed out the direction. Is it possible to oppose God? Then James, the stern apostle, speaks. He points in the direction of a very acceptable compromise: no unnecessary burdens. so they all come to an agreement.
FIRST READING Acts 15:22-31
The Holy Spirit and we have decided not to impose on you a heavier burden than necessary.
From the Acts of the Apostles
In those days, the apostles and the elders decided
together with the whole congregation
to choose some men from among themselves
and send them with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch:
Judas, nicknamed Barabbas,
and Silas, men of distinction among the brethren,
and give them the following letter:
“The apostles and elders greet the brethren from among the Gentiles
the brethren from among the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia,
Syria and Cilicia.
“Since we have heard
that some of us
have confused you with words
and have troubled your minds
without having received any order from us,
we have unanimously decided
to select and send some men
in the company of our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
men who have devoted themselves entirely
for the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“We have therefore delegated Judas and Silas
who will also verbally convey the same
“For the Holy Spirit and we have decided
to lay upon you no heavier burden than this unavoidable one :
to abstain from food sacrificed to idols,
from blood, from drowning
and fornication.
“If you keep yourselves from these things
it shall be well with you.
“Farewell!”
After taking their leave, they travelled to Antioch.
There they called the congregation together
and handed them the letter.
They read it and rejoiced at its comforting contents.
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 57(56), 8-9, 10-12
I want to praise you, O Lord, before all nations,
before all nations I sing you honour.
In you I trust, O God, in you I trust,
i sing and play for You.
Awake, O my spirit, awake, harp and zither
and awaken the dawn.
I want to praise Thee, O Lord, before all nations,
for all nations sing to You in honour;
for Your compassion is wide as the heavens,
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted on high, O God, in majesty
let your glory shine over all the earth.
ALLELUIA Rom. 6, 9
Alleluia.
Christ, once risen from the dead, dies no more
dies no more;
death no longer has power over him.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Jn 15:12-17
This is my commandment, that you love one another.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples :
“This is my commandment ,
that you love one another as I have loved you.
“Greater love can no one have than this
who lays down his life for his friends.
“You are my friends if you do what I command you.
“I no longer call you servants
for the servant does not know what his master is doing,
but I have called you friends
because I have told you everything I have heard from the Father.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you ,
and I have commissioned you to set out on the journey
and bear fruit that will last.
“Then the Father will give you
whatever you ask in My Name.
“This is My commandment
that you love one another.”
