Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Opening word

When we have to say goodbye to a loved one,
it is a comfort to realise and feel
that we are not alone in the end.
When Jesus speaks to his disciples about the day
on which He will return to His Father,
he comforts them with the promise
that the Holy Spirit will assist and guide them.
Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will also help us
and that, thanks to His power and strength, we will
never feel alone or abandoned.

FIRST READING             Acts 15:1-2,22-29
The Holy Spirit and we have decided not to impose a heavier burden on you than the strictly necessary.

In those days some men
who had come from Judea, proclaimed to the brethren the doctrine:
“If you are not circumcised according to Mosaic custom,
you cannot be saved.”
When disagreement arose over this
and Paul and Barnabas
got into a fierce altercation with them,
they instructed Paul and Barnabas
and some other members of the congregation to
with this combative question
to the apostles and elders in Jerusalem.
These decided together with the whole congregation
choose some men from among them
and to send with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch:
Judas, nicknamed Barsabbas,
and Silas, men of distinction among the brethren,
and to give them the following writing:
“The apostles and elders send their brotherly greetings
to the brethren from among the Gentiles in Antiochíë,
Syria and Cilícia.
Since we have heard
that some of us
have confused you by words
and have troubled your minds,
without having received any orders from us
we have unanimously decided
to select and send to you some men
in company with our dear Barnabas and Paul,
men who have devoted themselves entirely
for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have thus delegated Judas and Silas,
who will also verbally convey the same.
Indeed, the Holy Spirit and we have decided
not to impose on you a heavier burden
than that which is strictly necessary: namely
to abstain from foods sacrificed to idols,
from blood, from choked flesh
and from fornication.
If ye observe yourselves before this
you shall be well.

God be merciful to us and bless us,
Let his face shine upon us.

that all nations honour Thee.
God so grant us His blessing
that all the earth may fear Him.

SECOND READING                      Apok. 21, 10-14.22-23
He showed me the holy City that came down from heaven.

An angel brought me, John,
in the spirit on a very high mountain
and showed me the holy City, Jerusalem,
as it descended from God out of heaven,
radiant with the glory of God:
she shone like the most precious stone
and like crystalline jasper.
The City
was surrounded by a very high wall with twelve gates
and at the gates stood twelve angels:
names were inscribed on them,
the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.
There were three gates on the east, three on the north,
three on the south and three on the west.
And the city wall had twelve foundation stones
and on them were the twelve names
of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
But a temple I did not see there
for God, the Lord, the All-Ruler is its temple
as is also the Lamb.
And the City does not need the light of sun and moon,
for the glory of God illuminates it
and her lamp is the Lamb.

If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word;
me Father will love him
and We will come to him.

GOSPEL                   Jn 14:23-29
The Holy Spirit will remind you of everything I have said to you.

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“If anyone loves Me
he will keep My word;
my Father will love him
and We will come to him and take up residence with him.
He who does not love Me
does not keep My words;
and the word which ye hear is not from Me
but of the Father who sent Me.
This I say unto you while I am yet with you,
but the Helper,
the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My Name,
He will teach you everything
and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Peace I leave you;
my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives it, I give it to you.
Let not thy heart be troubled or humble.
Thou hast heard Me say:
I am going but I am returning to you.
If thou wouldst love Me
ye would be glad that I am going to the Father
for the Father is greater than I am.
Now, before it happens, I tell you,
that when it comes to pass ye may believe.”

ON CARING FOR THE COMMON HOME

Be praised my Lord
1. “Be praised my Lord,” sang St Francis of Assisi. In
this beautiful hymn, he reminded us that our common home
is like a sister with whom we share existence, and like a beautiful
mother who takes us in her arms: “Be praised, my Lord, for our
sister earth, which nourishes and guides us and brings forth several fruits
with colourful flowers and herbs”.
