Carolus Lwanga was a martyr from Uganda.
He was killed with his companions on 27 May 1886.

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Recital
Last Sunday’s gospel returns. First, we note that this is a commandment and this is explicitly stated (high priestly prayer). Such a thing occurs nowhere in the Synoptics. With John it comes at the moment when the farewell speech is gdaan. It is a climax (connection with 13.31). Furthermore, this is Johannine theology. The glorification includes the whole Easter Triduum: Cross, death ( exaltation, exaltation) and resurrection are one. The prayer will culminate in the request that the disciples too would share in that glory. In fact, that is the ultimate meaning of his glorification. His death releases forces that are ( all for the better) salvific, redemptive, saving.

FIRST READING    Acts 20, 17-27
My career is at an end and the task I received from the Lord Jesus.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In those days Paul sent a messenger from Miletus to Ephesus
to summon the elders of that church.
When they reached him
he addressed them thus :
“Thou knowest how I
from the first day I came to Asia,
all this time I have lived among you;
how I have served the Lord in all humility,
under tears
and in trials that befell me through the attacks of the Jews ;
how I have not left anything useful
failed to preach and teach you
in public and in your homes,
while I exhorted Jews and Greeks
to convert to God
and believe in our Lord Jesus.
“And now I find myself ,
bound by the spirit as I am,
on my way to Jerusalem,
without knowing what will happen to me there;
only the Holy Spirit assures me from city to city
that fetters and torments await me.
“But to my life I do not attach the least value to myself ,
as long as I finish my career
and the task I have received from the Lord Jesus
to bear witness to the Gospel of God’s grace.
“And now I know that ye shall see my countenance no more,
all of you to whom I have gone round
to preach the Kingdom.
“Therefore I assure you at this day
that I am innocent of the blood of any.
“For I have omitted nothing
to proclaim to you God’s counsel in its fullness.

INTRODUCTION  Ps. 68(67), 10-11, 20-21

Sing now to God, kingdoms of the earth.

A nourishing rain came down from heaven,
thy exhausted inheritance thou hast refreshed.
Thy flock has found its resting place there,
which Thou hadst in Thy goodness prepared for her.

The Lord be praised, day by day :
He bears our burdens, the God of our salvation.
For our God is a God who redeems,
the Lord our God delivers from death.

ALLELUIA John 14, 16

Alleluia.
At my prayer the Father will give you another Helper,
to stay with you forever.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL   John 17, 1-11a
Father, glorify your Son.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time Jesus lifted his eyes to heaven and said :
“Father, the hour has come.
“Glorify your Son
that the Son may glorify Thee.
“For Thou hast given Him power over all men
to give eternal life
to all whom Thou hast given Him.
“And this is eternal life
that they may know Thee, the only true God
and Him whom Thou hast sent, Jesus Christ.
“I have glorified Thee on earth
by accomplishing the work which Thou hast instructed Me to do.
“Thou, Father, now glorify Me to Thyself
and give Me the glory
which I had with Thee before the world existed.
“I have revealed Thy Name
to the people whom Thou gavest Me out of the world.
“To You they belonged ;
Me Thou hast given them
and they have kept Thy Word.
“Now they know that all that Thou hast given Me comes from Thee.
“For the message which Thou hast communicated to Me ,
i have communicated to them,
and they have accepted them
and acknowledged truthfully that I came forth from Thee ,
and they have believed that Thou hast sent Me
“I pray for them.
“Not for the world do I pray
but for those whom Thou hast given Me,
because they belong to Thee.
“All Mine is Thine and Thine is Mine.
“Thus I am glorified in them.
“I no longer remain in the world ;
they however remain in the world while I come to Thee’

Laudato Si
Encyclical of
Pope Francis
On caring for the common home

Saint Francis of Assisi
10. I do not want to go further in this encyclical without using
of a beautiful and motivating example. I took his name as a
guide and inspiration at the time of my election as bishop
of Rome. I believe that Francis is the pre-eminent example of caring
for what is weak, and of an integral ecology, lived with joy and
authenticity. He is the holy patron of all those who
research and work in the field of ecology and is also loved
by many who are not Christians. He showed a special concern for
god’s creation and for the poorest and those who are most abandoned
abandoned. He loved and was loved for his joy, his
generous devotion, his universal heart. He was a mystic and a
pilgrim who lived simply in wonderful harmony with God, the
other, nature and himself. In him one can observe how much care for
nature, justice towards the poor, commitment in society and
inner peace cannot be separated.
