Consideration
A treasure in earthen pots. It is an image for the precious presence of God in frail human existence and in the difficulties of the Christian life in particular. Thanks to the life force of God, for Paul no situation is hopeless and hopeless. For the mystery of Jesus’ resurrection can be manifested in it. That is what believers can draw on so as not to give up in their life’s testimony. Sometimes the root of resistance is in the Christian himself, namely in his own selfishness. Keeping the union with and loyalty to people pure – even in the intentions – , then means a piece of dying to oneself. One sacrifices something of oneself. However, not without perspective, for: precious is in Your sight the life of those who worship You (Ps 116, 15).
FIRST READING 2 Cor. 4, 7-15
He who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead,
will also raise us as well as Jesus to life.
From the holy apostle Paul’s second letter to the Christians of Corinth
Brothers and sisters,
We carry a treasure in earthen pots;
clearly shows
that this oversized power comes from God and not from us.
We are bombarded on all sides
yet we do not get stuck ;
we see no way out
but we are never at our wit’s end ;
we are hunted down
but not abandoned ;
we are knocked down
but do not die from it.
Always we carry the dying of Jesus in our bodies,
because the life of Jesus
must be revealed in our bodies.
Constantly our life is
handed over to death for Jesus’ sake
so that the life of Jesus
would reveal itself in our mortal existence.
Thus death performs its work in us and life in you.
But we possess that spirit of faith of which Scripture says :
“I have believed ,
therefore I have spoken.”
We too believe and therefore we speak.
For we know
that He who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead,
will also raise us to life like Jesus
to take us to Himself, together with you.
For everything happens for you :
grace must multiply in many
so that more and more people give thanks to God
to the glory of his name.
INTERLUDIUM Ps 116(115), 10-11, 15-16, 17-18
With sacrifices I will praise You, Lord.
Alleluia.
I continued to trust, though I said :
i am broken with grief ;
though I spoke in my confusion :
deceitful is every man.
Precious is in Your eyes
the life of whoever worships You.
O Lord, I am Your servant,
thy servant, the son of thy handmaid,
Thou hast slain my fetters.
With sacrifices I will praise Thee,
the Name of the Lord I call upon.
I will fulfil my vows
where all the people see it.
ALLELUIA cf Lk 8:15
Alleluia.
Blessed are those who keep the word of God which they heard
keep in a good and noble heart,
and bring forth fruit by their steadfastness.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 5:27-32
All those who look at a woman to covet her
has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew
At that time Jesus said to his disciples :
“Ye have heard that it was said :
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
“But I say to you :
All those who look at a woman to covet her
has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
“If thy right eye threateneth to bring thee to sin ,
smell it out and cast it away from you;
for it is better for thee ,
that one of thy body parts be lost
than that the whole of thy body be cast into hell.
“And if thy right hand threatens to bring thee to sin ,
cut them off and cast them away from thee ;
for it is better for thee
that one of thy body parts should be lost
than that the whole of thy body should end up in hell.
“Also it has been said :
Whoever rejects his wife, except in case of fornication ,
causes her to become an adulteress ;
and whoever marries an outcast woman commits adultery.”

On caring for the common home
Pollution, waste and disposable culture
20. There are forms of pollution that affect people on a daily basis.
Exposure to air pollution causes a wide spectrum of
health consequences, especially of the poor, and
causes millions of cases of premature death. One becomes
ill, for example, as a result of inhaling large amounts of smoke
caused by fuel used for cooking or for
heating. Added to this is the pollution that affects all and which is
caused by transport, smoke from industry, the discharge of
substances that contribute to soil and water acidification, by
fertilisers, insecticides, herbicides and toxic pesticides in general
in general. A technology, which in alliance with the financial world,
claims to be the only solution to the problems, is de facto unable
to see the mystery of the many connections that exist between
things and therefore sometimes solves one problem while creating others.
