Saturday – Our Lady on Saturday

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration

God has reconciled the world to himself. Indeed, Jesus Christ has taken upon himself everything that separates people from God. Thanks to Jesus, the old man died and the new man was born. The Lord is merciful and benevolent. All-encompassing is his mercy (Ps 103:8.11). That insight never leaves Paul. It is the source of his holy zeal in proclaiming God’s reconciliation through Jesus Christ. From now on, it is also possible to look at people with new eyes and to no longer live for oneself alone. That is why Paul calls on people to allow themselves to be touched by God’s initiative. Those who do so therefore say a strong and clear yes to good, but also a very firm and unequivocal no to evil. After all, all the earth belongs to God.

FIRST READING             2 Cor 5 , 14-21

Him who knew no sin
god has made sin for us.

From the holy apostle Paul’s second letter to the Christians of Corinth.

Brothers and sisters,

The love of Christ leaves us no rest
since we have realised that One died for all.
But then all have died!
And He died for all
that those who live might no longer live for themselves,
but for Him who died and rose for their sake.
Therefore from now on we no longer judge anyone
by the old standards.
And even if we once judged Christ by such,
at least not now.
Thus, whoever is in Christ is a new creation:
the old is past, the new has already come.
And all this comes from God.
He has reconciled us to himself through Christ
and entrusted us apostles with the service of that reconciliation.
Yes, it was God
who in Christ reconciled the world to himself:
He did not count the faults of men
and gave us the message of reconciliation.
So we are ambassadors of Christ,
God is calling you through our word.
We implore you in Christ’s name:
be reconciled to God!
Him who knew no sin,
he hath made sin for us,
that through Him we might become God’s own holiness.

INTERLUDIUM              Ps. 103(102), 1-2, 3-4, 8-9, 11-12

The Lord is merciful and benevolent.

Glorify, my soul, the Lord,
his holy Name from the depths of your being!
Glorify, my soul, the Lord,
forget not his benefits!

It is He who forgives you your debts,
who heals thee from thy afflictions.
It is He who saves you from destruction,
who surrounds you with his favour and mercy.

The Lord is merciful and benevolent,
longsuffering and kind.
He does not constantly keep reproaching,
He is not forever wroth.

As wide as the heavens span the earth,
so all-encompassing is His mercy.
As far as the distance from east to west,
so He drives away from us sin.

ALLELUIA            John 6, 64b, 69b

Alleluia.
Your words, Lord, are spirit and life ;
your words are words of eternal life.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL              Mt 5, 33-37
I tell you not to swear at all.

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples :
“You have heard that it was said to our ancestors :
Thou shalt not take false oaths ,
but thou shalt keep thy oaths before the Lord.
“But I say to you not to swear at all ;
nor by heaven, for that is the throne of God ;
nor by the earth, for that is his footstool ;
nor by Jerusalem, for that is the city of the great King.
“Nor by thy head must thou swear ,
for thou canst not make one hair white or black.
“But thy yes must be yes and thy no no ;
and that which is added to it is out of the question.”

Laudato Si

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On caring for the common home

21. One should also consider the pollution caused
by waste, including the hazardous waste present in various areas.
Hundreds of millions of tonnes of waste are produced every year
produced, many of which are non-degradable: domestic and commercial waste
eal waste, demolition waste, clinical, electronic and industrial waste, highly
toxic and radioactive waste. The earth, our home, seems to be increasingly
turning into an immense repository of rubbish. In many parts of
the planet, the elderly nostalgically recall the landscapes of
other times, which are now buried under rubbish. The chemicals
used in cities and agriculture, like the
industrial waste have an effect on the inhabitants of neighbouring
areas even when the level of presence of a toxic
element in a place is low. Measures are often only taken
when the effects caused are irreversible for the health
of individuals.
