Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration
In this way, Paul continues to give an appropriate response to God’s grace. Thus he imitates Jesus, who responds to evil with an excess of goodness and generosity. This attitude speaks of trust in God and faith in his powerful assistance. Gratitude is its source, for: His benefits the Lord made known to us. (Ps 98.2)

FIRST READING 2 Cor. 8:1-9

For your sake, Jesus Christ became poor.

From the holy apostle Paul’s second letter to the Christians of Corinth

Brothers and sisters,

We now wish to tell you of the grace of God
bestowed on the churches of Macedonia.
Through tribulations sorely tried
they rejoiced beyond measure
and their bitter poverty was overflowing in mildness.
For they gave according to their ability;
i should actually say: beyond their means.
Of their own accord and with great urgency
they begged us for the favour
to participate in the support of the saints.
They gave more than we dared hope for;
they gave themselves, first of all to the Lord,
but then also, by God’s will, to us.
Encouraged by this, we urged Titus
also this work of love, which he had begun before,
with you.
Well, you already excel in so many ways:
In faith, eloquence, science,
in zeal in all fields,
in your love for us,
let this work of love also succeed excellently!
I do not say this by way of command,
but I want to test the genuineness of your love
to the devotion shown for others.
For the act of love of our Lord Jesus Christ
i do not need to remind you:
How He became poor for your sake, while He was rich,
that ye might be made rich through His poverty.

Interludium    Ps. 146(145), 2, 5-6, 7, 8-9a

The Lord I will praise all my life.
Alleluia.

The Lord I will praise all my life,
my God I will sing all my days.

Happy he who seeks help from Jacob’s God,
puts his hope in God the Lord;
on Him who made heaven and earth,
the sea with all that lives there.

The Lord always keeps His word,
he gives justice to the oppressed.
The Lord gives bread to the hungry,
captives He grants freedom.

The eyes of the blind the Lord opens,
he raises up the brokenhearted.
The Lord loves the righteous,
the Lord preserves the displaced.

ALLELUIA    John 10.27

Alleluia.
My sheep listen to My voice, says the Lord ;
and I know them and they follow Me.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL     Mt 5:43-48

Love your enemies.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples :
“Ye have heard that it was said :
Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thy enemy.
“But I say to you :
Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you ,
that ye may become children of your Father in heaven,
for he causes the sun to rise on the wicked and the good
and makes it rain on the just and the unjust.”
“For if ye love those who love you ,
what right have ye to wages?
“Do not tax collectors do the same?
“And if thou only salute thy brother ,
what extraordinary thing dost thou do?
“Do not the heathen do the same?
“Be ye therefore perfect,
as thy Father in heaven is perfect.”

Laudato Si

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On caring for the common home

24. In turn, warming has effects on the carbon dioxide cycle.
It creates a vicious cycle that exacerbates the situation and which
will affect the availability of essential resources such as
drinking water, energy and agricultural production in the warmest regions, and
result in the extinction of part of the planet’s biodiversity
consequence. The melting of the polar and
high mountains threatens a very dangerous release of methane gas and the
disintegration of frozen organic matter could increase carbon dioxide emissions
even more. In turn, the loss
of tropical forests exacerbates the situation, as they help mitigate climate change.
Carbon dioxide-induced pollution
increases the acidity of the oceans and puts the food chain of the
sea at risk. If the current trend continues, this century might
witness unprecedented climate change and an
unprecedented destruction of ecosystems with serious consequences for
us all. The rise in sea level, for instance, could create extremely
serious situations, considering that one-fourth of the
world’s population lives by the sea or very close to it, and the majority
of metropolises are located in coastal areas.
