Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Opening word

In the Gospel, Jesus asks his disciples:
“Who do you say that I am?
Jesus expects a personal answer.
What meaning does He have for them?
Are they willing to follow Him to the cross?
Jesus also addresses us today.
Who is He for us?
Are we willing to take up his cross with him?
Jesus’ expectations are great,
but his gedld and mercy are unending.

FIRST READING            Zech. 12, 10-11

They will look up to him whom they have pierced

From the prophet Zechariah

Thus speaks the Lord:

“In those days I will pour over the house of David
pour out a spirit of benevolence and prayer ,
so that they will look up to him whom they have pierced;
they shall mourn over him as over an only child,
weep for him as for a firstborn.
“In that day the mourning in Jerusalem shall be as great
as that over Hadad-Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.”

Answer Psalm           Ps. 63(62), 2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9

Refrain
Lord, my God, to You my heart yearns.

God, my God be Thou,
I seek Thee already at dawn.
For Thee my soul thirsts and my heart yearns
like barren fields for rain.

Thus I look up to the place where Thou dost dwell,
I contemplate Your power and Your glory.
More worthy than life is Thy mercy to me,
my mouth proclaims Thy praise.

I will praise Thee as long as I live,
stretch out my hands to You.
My soul will be satiated with nourishing food,
my mouth shall thank Thee jubilantly.

For Thou hast always been my protector,
I bask under Thy wings.
With all my heart I cling to Thee,
it is thy hand that sustains me.

SECOND READING            Gal. 3:26-29

All those who are baptised have put on Christ as a garment.

From the holy apostle Paul’s letter to the Galatians

Brothers and sisters,

You are all children of God
through faith in Christ Jesus.
Baptism has united you all to Christ,
ye have put on Him as a garment.
There is now no question of Jew or Gentile,
slave or free, male or female;
all together form one person in Christ Jesus.
But if ye belong to Christ ,
then thou art also Abraham’s offspring,
and therefore heirs by virtue of the promise.

Gospel verse     John 10, 27

Alleluia.
My sheep listen to My voice, says the Lord,
and I know them and they follow Me.
Alleluia.

EVANGELY Lk 9:18-24

Thou art the Anointed One of God. The Son of Man must suffer much.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

Once when Jesus was praying alone
and His disciples came to Him,
he asked them the question:
“Who do people say that I am?”
They answered:
“John the Baptist,
others say: Elijah,
and still others: one of the ancient prophets has risen.”
At this, Jesus said to them:
“But you, who do you say that I am?”
Now Peter answered:
“The Anointed One of God.”
But He expressly forbade them to say this to anyone.
“The Son of Man!
– he spoke –
must suffer much
and be rejected by the elders,
high priests and scribes,
but after being put to death,
he will rise on the third day.”

But to all He spoke:
“Whoever wants to be My follower ,
must follow Me by denying himself
and by taking up his cross every day.
“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it.
“But whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.”

Laudato Si

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On caring for the common home

29. A particularly serious problem is that of the quality of water
available to the poor, which results in many deaths every day.
Among the poor, water-related diseases are common,
including those caused by microorganisms and
chemical agents. Dysentery and cholera, due to inadequate sanitation
and water resources, are a major factor
of suffering and infant mortality. Aquifers are threatened in many
places by pollution caused by some
resource extraction activities, agriculture
and industry, especially in countries where regulation and adequate control
are lacking. We are not only thinking of the waste from factories. One
continues to discharge detergents and chemicals used by the population in many
places around the world into rivers, lakes and seas.
