CONSIDERATION The proclamation of the Law is followed by the conclusion of the covenant. For the Israelite, the blood is the seat of life. The same blood binds the members of the same family. Here, through the Covenant-in-blood, the Jews become family of God. Half of the blood is sprinkled over the altar (symbol of God), the other half over the people. Henceforth they are blood relatives, inseparable from Him and each other, with all the duties that entails. The people must henceforth live according to the Law of that Covenant God. FIRST READING Ex. 24, 3-8 This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord makes with you. From the book of Exodus In those days Moses informed the people of all the words and provisions of the Lord. In unison, the people professed: “All the words that the Lord has spoken to us , shall we keep.” Thereupon Moses wrote down all the Lord’s words. The next morning, at the foot of the mountain, he built an altar and set up twelve wisdom stones, after the twelve tribes of Israel. Then he instructed young Israelites to to sacrifice bulls as burnt victims for the Lord. Moses took half the blood and put it in bowls while he poured out the other half over the altar. Then he took the covenant book and read it to the people. And they assured: “Everything the Lord says, we will do and take to heart.” Then Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and spoke: “This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord , by virtue of all these words, makes with you.” INTERLUDIUM Ps. 50(49), 1-2, 5-6,14-15 Bring to the Lord the sacrifice of your praise. The Lord, the God of gods, speaks, He calls the earth from east to west. His splendour shines from Zion, the full beautiful, He approaches, our God, and is silent no more. Brings here all who are devoted to Me, who have ratified My covenant with a sacrifice. The heavens testify His righteousness : it is God Himself who judges. Bring rather to God the sacrifice of your praise, Fulfil your vows to the Most High. Then you may cry out to Me in tribulation; I will save you if you worship Me. ALLELUIA Ps. 130(129),5 Alleluia. In the Lord I put my hope, on his word I trust. Alleluia. GOSPEL Mt 13:24-30 Let wheat and weeds grow together until harvest.From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew
At that time, Jesus held out this parable to the crowd:
“The kingdom of heaven
resembles a man who had sown good seed in his field;
but while the people slept his enemy came,
sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.
When the culms had shot up and set fruit,
even the weeds could be seen.
Now the servants went to their master and said to him:
Lord, surely you have sown good seed in your field?
How is it then that there are weeds on it?
He answered them:
That is the work of an enemy.
The servants said to him:
Wilt thou then that we glean it together?
But he said:
Nay, I fear, that thou,
if you gather the weeds,
pull out the wheat with it.
Let both grow up together until the harvest,
and at harvest time I will tell the reapers:
First gather up the weeds
and bind them in bushels to burn;
but store up the wheat in my barn.”

The light that faith offers 63. If we take into account the complexity of the ecological crisis and its numerous causes, we should recognise that the solutions cannot come from one way in which we interpret and change reality. It is also necessary to resort to the diverse cultural resources of peoples, to art and poetry, to inner life and spirituality. If one really wants to build an ecology that allows us to restore all that we have destroyed, then no branch of science and no form of wisdom should be neglected, nor that of the religion with its own language. Moreover, the Catholic Church is open to dialogue with philosophical thought and this allows her to make to establish different syntheses between faith and reason. As regards the social issues, one can observe this in the development of the Church’s social teaching, called to constantly enrich itself, starting from the new challenges, to constantly enrich itself.
