Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation seeks to convey the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration

“This Word is trustworthy”. This occurs in the three pastoral epistles – nowhere else. This is a tie of unity of authorship among many other elements. The letters contain many short prayers. Also here and there a short formula of faith, such as: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”. In 1, 16-17, we even clearly find a short piece of hymnody.

FIRST READING  1 Tim. 1, 15 -17
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

From the holy apostle Paul’s first letter to Timothy

Beloved,

This word is reliable and utterly credible:
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”
And the first of them is me.
For this very reason I have been shown mercy:
Jesus Christ wanted to show all his longsuffering,
first to me, as a model for all
who would trust in Him in the future
and would receive eternal life.
To the King of the ages,
to the imperishable, invisible, only God
honour and glory throughout the ages of ages!
Amen.

INTERLUDIUM    Ps. 113(112), 1-2, 3-4, 5a, 6-7

The name of the Lord be praised
today and forever.

or : Alleluia.

Glorify, servants of the Lord,
glorify the name of the Lord.
The name of the Lord be praised
today and forever.

From sunrise to sunset
every one should worship that Name.
For above the nations the Lord enthrones,
his glory reigns over the heavens.

Who is like the Lord our God,
who from above
the firmament and the earth?
Who lifts the powerless from the dust,
from the rubbish heaps takes away the poor.

ALLUIA Mt 4:4b

Alleluia.
Not from bread alone does man live,
but from all that proceeds from the mouth of God.
Alleluia.

Lk      6:43-49
Why do ye still cry out to Me, Lord, Lord!
if ye do not do as I say?

From the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“There is no good tree that brings forth sick fruit
nor a sick tree that brings forth good fruit.
“For every tree is recognised by its fruit;
one does not pluck figs from thorns,
one does not pluck grapes from a bramble.
“A good man brings forth goodness
from the treasure of goodness in his heart ;
but a bad man brings forth evil
from his treasure of wickedness ;
for his mouth speaks what his heart overflows with.
“Why dost thou still call to Me, Lord, Lord!
if ye do not do what I say ?
“Everyone who comes to Me ,
listens to My words and acts accordingly,
I will make clear to thee whom he is like.
“He is like the man
who in building his house dug deep
and had laid the foundation on rocky ground.
“When the flood came, the storm pounded on that house ;
but the storm did not have the power to shake it
because it was so well built.
“He who listens but does not do ,
resembles the man who built his house on the ground ,
with no foundation.
“The storm pounded on it and immediately it collapsed
and the destruction of that house was utter.”

Laudato Si

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On caring for the common home

112. However, it is possible to broaden the view again and human
freedom is able to limit technology, give it a direction
and put it at the service of a different kind of progress,
healthier, more humane, more social and more integral.
The liberation from the
prevailing technocratic paradigm actually takes place in a couple of situations
take place. For instance, when communities of small producers
opt for less polluting production systems and, in the process, a non
consumerist model of happiness and coexistence. Or
when technology focuses primarily on solving the concrete problems of
the other and help them live with more dignity and less suffering
and less suffering. And also, when the creative search
for beauty and its contemplation succeeds the objectifying
power in a kind of redemption that arises in the
beauty and in the person contemplating it. Real humanity, which
that invites a new synthesis, seems amidst technological
civilisation, though barely perceptible as fog that permeates
penetrates under a closed door. Despite everything, will it be an enduring
promise that emerges as a stubborn resistance to what is real?
