Consideration
It is always good to meet people who are grateful.
They remind us of something very essential:
Very much in our lives is gift;
our life itself is a gift
for which we may thank God, the Creator and Source of all life,
may give thanks.
In the Eucharist we come together
to praise and thank God
for the sake of Jesus,
in whom people have experienced God’s power and goodness.
Let us open our hearts to that healing goodness.
FIRST READING 2 Kings 5:14-17
Naaman returned to the man of God and confessed that God exists.
From the second book of Kings
In those days the Syrian Naaman went to the Jordan River
and immersed himself seven times,
as Elisha, the man of God, had said.
His skin became like that of a small child again
and he was cleansed of his leprosy.
He returned to the man of God with all his retinue,
entered the house, stood before him and said:
“Now I know that there is a god in Israel ,
and nowhere else on earth.
Will therefore accept a tribute from your servant.”
But Elisha replied:
“As the Lord lives, whose servant I am ,
i accept nothing from you.”
And though Naaman urged him to accept anything,
he continued to refuse.
Then Naäman said:
“At least give me a load of earth then,
as much as a pair of mules can carry,
for your servant will no longer dedicate
fire or victims any more,
than to the LORD alone.”
Answer Psalm Ps. 98(97) 1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4
Refrain The Lord revealed his salvation to the nations.
Sing to the Lord a new song
because He did miracles.
His hand asserted itself powerfully,
the power of His holy arm.
The Lord revealed His salvation,
justice He showed to the nations;
He remained mindful of His mercy,
his faithfulness to Israel’s house.
The whole earth beheld
the salvation of the Lord our God.
Glorify the Lord, all nations,
be glad, rejoice and sing.
SECOND READING 2 Tim. 2, 8-13
If we persevere, we will reign with Christ.
From the holy apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy
Dear one,
Keep Jesus Christ in mind,
David’s Nazate, who rose from the dead.
Such is the message I proclaim
and for which even as a criminal I
suffer imprisonment.
But the word of God does not allow itself to be put in chains.
Therefore I am ready to endure anything,
for the sake of the elect,
so that they too may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus
and eternal glory.
How true is this word:
“If we have died with Him
we shall live with Him.
If we persevere ,
we shall reign with Him.
If we deny Him
he will deny us.
If we are unfaithful
he remains faithful:
himself He cannot deny Himself.”
Verse for the gospel 1 Thess. 5.18
Alleluia.
Thank God for everything;
this is what God requires of you
in Christ Jesus.
Alleluia.
Gospel Lk. 17, 11-19
Has no one returned to bring honour to God but only this stranger?
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke
On his journey to Jerusalem
Jesus passed through the border region of Samaria and Galilee.
As He entered a village,
ten lepers approached Him;
they stopped at a great distance and shouted loudly:
“Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
He saw them and spoke:
“Go and show yourselves to the priests.”
And on the way they were cleansed.
One of them returned when he saw that he was healed,
and he glorified God with a loud voice.
Full of gratitude, he threw himself down at Jesus’ feet,
and this man was a Samaritan.
At this, Jesus asked:
“Are not all ten cleansed?
Then where are the nine others?
Has no one returned to bring honour to God
than only this stranger?”
And He spoke to him:
“Get up and go; your faith has saved you.”

Laudato Si
Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCUS
On caring for the common home
151. It is necessary to care for public spaces because they
strengthen our sense of belonging, an experience of rootedness,
a “feeling at home” within the city that encompasses and unites us. It is
important that the different parts of a city are well integrated
and that residents can have a general overview rather than
locking themselves into a neighbourhood and thus refraining from experiencing the whole city as
a private space shared with others. Any intervention in the
urban or rural landscape should take into account how
the different elements of the place form a whole that is perceived by its
residents experience as a framework coherent with its wealth of
meanings of it. Thus, the other ceases to be a stranger and can be
be seen as part of an “us” that we form together. For this
reason it is opportune in both urban and rural environments to
to reserve some spaces where human interventions, which constantly
change, are avoided.
