Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

CONSIDERATION

From Corinth around the year 56, Paul wrote his Romans letter, addressed ”To all you in Rome who love God”.
With this letter, the Apostle set countless men and women, past and present, on the path of faith.
He will make them – us – discover the mystery of Jesus Christ. Paul’s merit is that he will teach the first Christians to come together to live and celebrate that mystery in community, in local (house) churches. There, people will gather around the word of God and the Eucharist. There they will become brothers and sisters of one another, beloved children of God. Thinking about our Church today, about the faith communities in so many countries and cultures, about the persecuted Christians who have to hide to celebrate Eucharist, we can reflect on what role the Eucharist plays (ssmit. Do we let Paul speak to us and (perhaps again?) set us on our way?

FIRST READING                   Rom. 1:1 to 7
Through Christ I have received the grace of apostleship.

Beginning of the holy apostle Paul’s letter to the Christians of Rome

From Paul,
servant of Christ Jesus,
by God’s calling postel,
destined to the service of the gospel
which God formerly announced through his prophets
announced in the holy writings:
’the message about his Son,
who was born to the flesh of the lineage of David,
who was appointed Son of God according to the Holy Spirit
by God’s mighty act,
by his resurrection from the dead :
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Through him I have received the grace of apostleship
in honour of his name
among all nations
bring people to the obedience of faith.
You too belong to them,
called as ye are by God
to the communion of Jesus Christ.
I send my greetings to all of you in Rome :
God loves you and called you to his holy congregation.
Grace and peace to you
because of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ !

INTRODUCTION                     Ps 98 (97), 1, 2 – 3 ab, 3 CD to 4

His benefits the Lord made known to us.

Sing to the Lord and new song
because He did wonders.
His hand asserted itself powerfully,
the power of His holy arm.

His benefits He made known to us,
the peoples His justice.
Once again His goodness and faithfulness proved
in favour of Israel’s house.

All the earth beheld
what our God did for us.
Glorify the Lord, all nations,
be glad, rejoice and sing.

ALLELUIA              Ps 19 (18) , 9

Alleluia
Your precepts, Lord, are trustworthy,
ignorant they make wise.
Alleluia

GOSPEL                       Lk. 11, 29-32

This generation will be given no other sign than the sign of Jonah.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

At that time,
when the people flocked together Jesus began to speak :
“This generation is a depraved generation : It desires a sign ;
but no other sign shall be given to it
than the sign of Jonah.
“For as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites ,
so shall also the Son of Man be to this generation.
“The queen of the South will rise at the judgment
together with the people of this generation ;
and she shall judge them,
for she came from the ends of the earth
to listen to the wisdom of Solomon :
Well, here is more than Solomon.
“The people of Nineveh shall rise at the judgment
together with this generation
and they shall condemn it,
for they have repented at the preaching of Jonah :
Well, here is more than Jonah.”

Laudato Si

Encyclical of

Pope Francis

On caring for our common home

152. The housing shortage in many parts of the world, both rural
and big cities, severe because the state budget usually
covers only part of the demand. Not only the poor, but a
large section of society encounters serious difficulties to
acquire a house of their own. The ownership of a house is of great
importance for the dignity of the person and the development of the
family. It concerns a central issue in human ecology. If in a
particular place chaotic agglomerations of shaky houses have already
have developed, then the primary concern is to further
develop them, not to deprive their inhabitants of their roots and drive them
out. When the poor live in polluted suburbs, “it is
necessary to proceed with relocation and in order not to add suffering to suffering, prior to providing the appropriate information, alternatives
consisting of decent houses to be offered and stakeholders to be
directly involved”. At the same time, creativity should
lead to integrating poverty-stricken neighbourhoods within a welcoming city.
“How beautiful are the cities that manage to overcome unhealthy mistrust
and integrate those who are different and make that integration a new factor
of development! How beautiful are the cities that even in their architectural
planning are full of spaces that connect, establish relationships
and promote the recognition of others!”.
