May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy

can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Consideration
All men are sinners; all owe God. God knows no patience. He who does evil is punished; he who does good is rewarded. These words already point out that justification by faith alone, the main theme of this letter, should not be misunderstood. It does not mean that it matters what we do, how we live, how we stand and act towards our neighbour. God judges each person according to who he is and what he does. He is patient, repeatedly granting opportunities for repentance and new life-to every human being without exception. It is enough to let our petrified hearts be touched by God’s word, to turn away from evil and allow Him to heal our weakness.
FIRST READING Rom 2:1-11
God will repay each one according to his works,
the Jew in the first place but also the Greek.
Thou art not free to plead, moralist,
whoever thou mayest be.
For by your judgment of others you condemn yourselves.
For ye who set yourselves up as judges do exactly the same thing.
We agree that God rightly condemns those
who have given themselves up
to the impure lusts of their hearts.
And you, who pass judgment on those who do such things
and do them yourself equally,
do ye count on escaping God’s judgement?
Or do ye disregard His riches of kindness
and patience and longsuffering ,
and do ye not realise that God’s goodness wants to bring you to repentance?
With your blunt and unrepentant disposition
are you piling up for yourselves a capital of wrath
against the day of wrath,
when God’s righteous judgement will be revealed.
He will repay each one according to his works:
with eternal life
those who by steadfastly doing good
strive for imperishable glory and honour;
with punishment and wrath
those who rebelliously reject the truth
and embrace iniquity.
Torment and distress await every man who practices evil,
the Jew in the first place but also the Greek;
glory, honour and peace await every man who does good,
the Jew in the first place but also the Greek.
God knows no partiality.
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 62(61), 2-3, 6-7,9
God gives to each one according to what he deserves.
With God alone can I rest,
from Him alone comes my salvation.
Only He is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold, never letting go.
With God alone I must rest,
from Him comes all my hope.
Only He is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold, He will not let me go.
Abide in Him always,
my people, pour out your hearts to Him;
He is our only refuge.
ALLELUIA Ps. 27(26), 11
Alleluia.
Show me your way, Lord, in the face of opposition,
lead me along smooth paths.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Lk. 11, 42-46
Woe to you, Pharisees; woe also to you, lawgivers!
At that time Jesus said:
“Woe to you, Pharisees!
You do pay tithes of mint and rue and all kinds of spices ,
but care not for justice and love of God.
One must do the one and not neglect the other.
Woe unto thee, Pharisees!
Thou art lusting after the chief seat in the synagogue
and greetings in the marketplace.
Woe unto thee!
Thou art like invisible graves,
over which men walk without knowing it.”
Here one of the law scholars took the floor and said to Him:
“Master, by speaking like this, Thou also offends us.”
However, He replied:
“Woe also unto thee, lawgivers!
You impose almost unbearable burdens on men
which thou thyself dost not touch with one of thy fingers.”

Encyclical of
Pope Francis
On caring for the common home
154. Recognising the special dignity of human beings is often
at odds with the chaotic lives people in our cities
have to lead. However, this should not make us forget the state of desolation and neglect under which some residents of
rural areas suffer, where necessary services are
are lacking and there are workers in a state of slavery, with no rights
or hope for a more decent life.
