Celebration to commemorate when a church was dedicated
Invitation
May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day.
Opening word
A church building is a place of special charge.
It is a place where the world breaks open
and we come into contact with a presence that gives meaning and direction.
Saint John Henry Newman declares:
‘We can enter it and take our place
in the community of the saints, God’s heavenly family’.
That is why it is a feast when today we
commemorate the consecration of this church.
FIRST READING Rom. 6, 12-18
Offer yourselves to God as people
having risen from the dead to life.
From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Rome
Brothers and sisters,
Do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies,
do not obey her,
do not employ your limbs in its service
as instruments of iniquity.
Offer yourselves to God
as people who have risen from the dead to life.
Offer your limbs to Him
as instruments of righteousness.
Sin must not rule over you,
for ye are not under law but under grace.
Does this mean that we are free to sin
because we are no longer under law but under grace?
God forbid!
After all, it is clear
that ye must obey that master as slaves
in whose service ye set yourselves as slaves:
either ye serve sin
– and this ends in death –
or you serve God,
– and obeying Him leads to righteousness.
But you are, thank God, no longer slaves to sin;
with all your heart you have submitted
to the principles of the doctrine handed down to you.
Thus you have been freed from the dominion of sin
and become servants of righteousness.
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 124(123), 1-3, 4-6, 7-8
We were saved by the Name of the Lord.
Had the Lord not been with us ,
so may Israel say ;
had not the Lord been with us
when all turned against us ;
then we would have been devoured alive,
scorched by the glow of their anger.
Then the flood would have swallowed us up,
the torrent had swept us away;
we would have sunk helplessly
in foaming whirlpools of water.
The Lord be praised, He did not give us up,
snatched the prey from their teeth.
We fled like a bird just yet,
escaped the net of the hunters.
The net of the fowler was torn,
we were released from it.
We were saved by the Name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
ALLELUIA Ps 119(118), 36a, 29b
Alleluia.
My heart be set on what You ordain, Lord;
give me Thy law as my guide.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Lk 12, 39-48
From each one to whom much has been given, much will be demanded
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“Understand this:
if the owner of the house knew
at what hour the thief would come ,
he would not have his house broken into.
Be ye also prepared ,
because the Son of Man is coming
at the hour when ye expect it not.”
Peter now asked Him:
“Lord, dost thou mean this parable for us or for everyone?”
The Lord spoke:
“Who indeed would be the faithful and wise administrator,
whom the lord shall appoint over his servants
to give them their ration of corn at the appointed time?
Happy the servant
who finds the lord busy with it on his arrival.
Truly, I say to you:
he will appoint him over all that he possesses.
But says that servant to himself:
My lord will stay away for some time yet,
and begins to beat the servants and maids,
and indulges in food and drink,
then the servant’s lord will come
on a day when he does not expect him
and at an hour he does not know;
he will punish him with the sword
and so make him suffer the fate of the unfaithful.
The servant who knew the lord’s will ,
but made no dispositions nor acted according to his will,
will be severely disciplined.
Whoever, however, in ignorance
has done things that deserve discipline,
will be punished only lightly.
From anyone to whom much has been given much will be demanded;
and from him to whom much has been entrusted
will be required all the more.”

Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCUS
On caring for the common home
161. Meanwhile, one cannot look at the
catastrophic predictions. We could leave for future generations
behind too many ruins, deserts and dirt. The pace of
consumption, waste and environmental degradation is beyond the capability
of the planet to such an extent that the current lifestyle,
being unsustainable, can only end in catastrophes, as is
actually already happening periodically in several regions. The reduction
of the effects of the current imbalance depends on what we now
do, especially if we think of the responsibility that those who
will suffer the worst consequences will attribute to us.
