Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration
We all sense what Paul means when he says:. We do not even know how we ought to pray. Our hearts often feel barren and tired; we cannot find words; we do not quite understand where exactly the joy of praying to the Lord lies. All the great masters of spirituality describe this condition. The seeker arrives at a point where he dejectedly and listlessly drops his arms. At that nadir, God’s Spirit comes to our aid: He breaks us open, liberates in our hearts the cry for God that we think we are fruitlessly seeking. That is the moment when God makes it known to us that He is not far away at all; that He is not absent when we seek Him; that He does not turn away from us when we beg Him to be freed from our limitations and imperfections.

FIRST READING                 Rom. 8:26-30
God in all things promotes the salvation of those who love Him.

From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Rome

Brothers and sisters,

The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness.
For we do not even know how we ought to pray,
but the Spirit himself intercedes for us
with unspeakable sighs.
And He who searches the hearts
knows what the Spirit is after,
for He pleads for the saints according to God’s intention.
Meanwhile, we know
that God in all things promotes the salvation of those who love Him,
of those who are called according to His decree.
For those whom He has known beforehand,
he has also destined in advance
to be conformed to the image of His Son,
that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Those He predestined He also called.
Those whom He called He justified
and whom He justified, He glorified.

INTERLUDIUM                   Ps. 13(12), 4-5, 6

Lord my God, I counted on your mercy.

Ah, listen, hear me, Lord my God!
Dispel the sleep of death, make my eye bright again,
do not grant my fighter to win.

My opponents would rejoice at my fall
while I counted on your mercy.
Lord, by your assistance make me glad in heart,
then I will always sing your benefits.

Alleluia                      cf. Acts 16, 14b

Alleluia.
Make our hearts receptive, Lord,
and that we turn to the word of your Son.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                       Lk 13:22-30
They will come from the east and the west,
and they shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke

In those days Jesus went about
through towns and villages, teaching there
and He continued His journey to Jerusalem.
Someone asked Him :
“Lord, are they few who are saved?”
But He spoke to them:
“Strive to the utmost
to enter through the narrow door ,
for, I tell you, many will try to enter
but they will not succeed.
“Once the householder has risen and closed the door
and then if ye start knocking on the door outside
and begin to cry out : Lord, open up!
he will answer thee : I know not whence thou hast come.
“Then thou shalt raise :
In thy presence we have eaten and drunk ,
and in our streets thou hast taught.
“But again his answer will be :
I know not whence thou art come.
“Depart from Me, all ye that do iniquity.
“There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth,
when you shall see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets
shall see in the kingdom of God,
while ye yourselves shall be cast out.
“They shall come from the east and the west,
from the north and the south,
and they shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
“Remember:
there are lasts who will be first and firsts who will be last.”
