INTRODUCTION
Today we celebrate the feast of God’s holiness,
which becomes visible in places, in signs
and in people, whom we call ‘holy’.
Saints are figures to look up to,
for all of them, known or unknown,
have radiated something of God’s great holiness.
They inspire us to remain faithful to our calling
and make the Beatitudes concrete in our lives.
Because he “holy” is sometimes far away in our lives,
we first pray for God’s mercy.
FIRST READING Apok. 7, 2-4.9-14
from all races and tribes and peoples and languages.
From the Revelation of the holy apostle John
I, John, saw another angel ascending
from the rising of the sun
with the seal of the living God.
And he called with a loud voice to the four angels
to whom power had been given
to do damage to the earth and the sea :
“Do not harm the earth
nor the sea nor the trees
until we give the servants of our God
with the seal on their foreheads.”
And I heard the number signed :
One hundred and forty-four thousand there were
from all the tribes of the children of Israel.
Then I saw a great multitude, which no one could count,
from all races and tribes and peoples and languages.
They stood before the throne and before the Lamb,
clothed in white robes and holding palm branches.
And they all cried loudly :
“To our God who is seated on the throne
and to the Lamb belongs the victory!”
And all the angels stood around the throne,
the elders and the four beasts,
and they fell on their faces before the throne
and they worshipped God, saying :
“Amen!”
Then one of the elders turned to me and said :
“Who are those in the white robes
and where did they come from?”
I answered him :
“Lord, thou knowest.”
Then he said :
“Those are the ones coming from the great tribulation ,
who have washed their robes white
in the blood of the Lamb.”
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 24(23), 1-2, 3-4ab, 5-6
This is the generation that turns to You,
that stands before Your face, Lord our God.
To God belongs the earth and all that is upon it,
the globe and all that dwells therein;
for He founded her on the water,
established her on the sea.
Who shall ascend the mountain of the Lord ,
who shall stand in his sanctuary ?
Who is pure of hands and pure of heart,
sets not his sights on what is evil.
He will be blessed by the Lord,
rewarded by God, his redeemer.
So does the generation that turns to Him,
that stands before the face of Jacob’s God.
SECOND READING I John 3, 1-3
We will see God as He is.
From the first letter of the holy apostle John
Friends,
How great is the love shown to us by the Father!
We are called children of God
and we are.
The world does not understand us
and it does not know us
because it has not recognised Him.
Friends,
already now we are children of God
and what we shall be has not yet been revealed ;
but we know
that when it is revealed ,
we will be like Him
because we shall see Him as He is.
Those who expect such salvation from God ,
makes himself pure
as Christ is pure.
ALLELUIA Mt 11, 28
Alleluia.
Come to Me all you who are exhausted
and weighed down with burdens,
and I will give you rest and refreshment.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL Mt 5:1-12a
Rejoice and rejoice, for great is your reward in heaven.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
When Jesus saw the crowd, He went up the mountain,
and having sat down, His disciples came to Him.
He took the floor and taught them thus :
“Blessed are the poor in spirit ,
for to them belongs the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are the mourners ,
for they shall be comforted.
“Blessed are the meek,
for they shall possess the land.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be filled.
“Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall have mercy.
“Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God.
“Blessed are those who bring peace,
for they will be called children of God.
“Blessed who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when you are reviled, persecuted
and slanderously accused of all kinds of evil for My sake :
“Rejoice and rejoice ,
for great is thy reward in heaven.”
Laudato Si
Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCUS
On caring for the common home
171. The strategy of buying and selling emission or emissions certificates
may give rise to a new form of speculation and is not
conducive to reducing global emissions of polluting gases
reduction. This system seems to be a quick and easy solution,
giving the appearance of a certain commitment to the environment,
but is not at all a radical change consistent
with current circumstances. On the contrary, it may become a ploy that
it allows the superconsumption of some countries and sectors to
support.
