Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration

Tensions crop up in the church of Rome, which are also recognisable in the Church of our day. Some live the faith according to strict rules and feel upset when others take more freedom. Others then interpreted these rules differently or did not pay much attention to them. Still others were above such discussions and quietly took different paths. Paul takes love as his starting point: let us tolerate one another, not point fingers at anyone, and focus on the core of our faith: the death and resurrection of our Lord.

FIRST READING              Rom. 14:7-12
As long as we live, we live for the Lord,
and if we die, we die for the Lord.

From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Rome

Brothers and sisters,

None of us lives for himself alone,
no one dies for himself alone.
As long as we live, we live for the Lord,
and if we die, we die for the Lord:
Whether we live or die,
To Him we belong.
For that Christ died and was made alive again :
To be Lord over the dead and living.
By what right do ye condemn your brother?
And you, why do you belittle your brother?
All shall appear before the judgment seat of God.
For it is written :
“As I live ,
saith the Lord,
before Me every knee shall bow
and every tongue shall praise God.”
Thus, then, each of us will have to give an account for ourselves.

INTERLUDIUM                    Ps. 27(26), 1, 4, 13-14

I count on still during my lifetime
to experience the Lord’s benefits.

The Lord is my light and my guide,
whom should I fear;
the Lord is the brace of my life,
of whom should I fear?

One thing only I ask of the Lord,
more I shall not wish:
That I may live in God’s house as long as I live.
That I may experience the loveliness of the Lord,
may see his temple again with my own eyes.

I am counting on experiencing
to experience the Lord’s benefits.
Look forward to the Lord and stand firm bravely,
be bold in heart and trust in the Lord.

ALLELUIA               John 14.5

Alleluia.
I am the way, the truth and the life, says the Lord ;
no one comes to the Father except through Me.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                   Lk. 15, 1-10
There is joy among the angels of God
over one sinner who repents.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke

In those days, tax collectors and sinners of all kinds came to Jesus
to listen to Him.
The Pharisees and scribes grumbled about this and said :
“That man receives sinners and eats with them.”
He held out this parable to them :
“If anyone among you has a hundred sheep
and loses one of them ,
he does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness
to look for the lost one
until he finds it?
“And when he finds it, he joyfully lays it on his shoulders
and he goes home, calls his friends and neighbours together
and says to them :
Share in my joy,
for my sheep that was lost I have found.
“I say to you :
so there will be more joy in heaven
over one sinner who repents ,
than over ninety-nine righteous
who need no repentance.
“Or what woman who owns ten drachmas and loses one drachma
does not light a lamp,
does not sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?
“And when she has found it ,
she calls her friends and neighbours together and says :
Share in my joy,
for the drachma I had lost I have found.
“Thus, I say to you, there is joy among the angels of God
over one sinner who repents.”

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCISCUS

On caring for the common home

Dialogue towards a new national and local
politics
176. Not only among countries are there victors and losers,
but also within poor countries where different responsibilities
need to be established. Therefore, issues
relating to the environment and economic development cannot simply be raised based on the differences between countries, but
they call for consideration of national and local politics.
