Consideration
The word that Paul proclaims was not given to him by men. It is a word from God, and Paul bears witness to it because God has called him to do so. His task is not inextricably linked to a private community: the Christian community in Rome was not founded by Paul, but by Peter. The vocation that Paul experiences extends to all communities of faith, and will enable the young Church, which is slowly beginning to expand, to fulfil the mission that Jesus entrusted to him: to proclaim the Gospel from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth.
FIRST READING Rom 15, 14-21
God has appointed me to the holy service of Christ Jesus
to offer him to the nations as a welcome gift.
From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians in Rome
Brothers and sisters,
I have no doubt
that you are very capable of advising one another,
for you are abundantly endowed with goodness
and knowledge of all kinds.
However, I have
written here and there with a certain boldness
to remind you of one thing and another,
by virtue of the grace God has given me.
He has destined me
for the holy service of Christ Jesus among the Gentiles,
to minister the gospel of God,
to offer it to the nations as a welcome gift,
sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
In this I can boast before God in Christ Jesus.
For I profess to speak of nothing else
but of what Christ has accomplished through me
for the conversion of the Gentiles,
by word and deed,
by mighty miraculous signs,
in the power of the Spirit.
Thus I have completed the preaching of the Gospel of Christ,
from Jerusalem and its environs to the coast of Dalmatia.
Only it was a point of honour to me not to preach it in any place
where the name of Christ had already been mentioned.
I do not want to build on foundations laid by others ,
but to hold fast to the word of Scripture:
“They shall see
that you have not heard of Him.
They must come to understand
those who have not yet heard of Him”
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 98(97), 1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4
The Lord has made known to us his benefits,
his righteousness to the nations.
Sing to the Lord a new song
for He has done marvellous things
His hand has been mightily established,
the power of His holy arm.
His benefits He made known to us
his righteousness to the peoples.
Once again His goodness and faithfulness
on behalf of the house of Israel.
The whole earth saw
what our God has done for us.
Glorify the Lord, all you nations,
be glad, rejoice and sing.
ALLELUIA John 14.23
Alleluia.
If anyone loves me
he will keep my word;
my Father will love him
and We will come to him.
Alleluia.
The children of this world act more deliberately among themselves than the children of light
than the children of light.
At that time Jesus spoke to his disciples:
“Once upon a time there was a rich man who had a steward ,
who was in charge of wasting his property.
Then he called him and asked him
what do I hear from you there?
Give an account of your stewardship
for you can no longer be a steward.
Then the steward reasoned to himself:
what shall I do now that my lord takes away my stewardship?
I can neither dig nor beg: of that I am ashamed.
I know what I shall do,
so that, after my dismissal as steward, I may find refuge.
He called his lord’s debtors, one by one,
and said to the first:
how much do you owe my lord?
The latter answered, A hundred barrels of oil.
But he said:
Here is your confession of debt;
sit down quickly and write: Fifty.
Then he asked him a second time
and how much do you owe?
He answered: A hundred measures of wheat.
He said to him:
Here is your confession; write: Eighty.
And the master praised the unjust steward
that he had acted with deliberation,
for the children of this world
act more deliberately among themselves
than the children of light”

Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCO
On caring for our common home
177. Faced with the possibility of an irresponsible use of human capacities, they are functions of the imperative requirement of each state to plan, coordinate, monitor and punish within their territories. How does society order and maintain its development in a context of constant technological innovations? One factor that acts as the moderator is the actual law, laying down the rules for the conduct permitted in the light of the common good. The limits that must impose a healthy society, mature and sovereign are related to prediction and precaution, appropriate regulations, monitoring the application of rules, dealing with corruption, actions of operational control on the emergence of undesirable effects of production processes, and intervention appropriate in the face of uncertain risks or potential. There is a growing case law geared at reducing the polluting effects of the business activities. But the political and institutional structure does not exist only to avoid the bad practices, but to encourage good practice, to stimulate creativity that seeks new ways to facilitate personal and collective initiatives.
