Consideration
In the friendship of Jesus, John experienced a real contact with the source of eternal life, with God himself. For in Jesus, God speaks again his life-giving Word from the very beginning. That Word has become flesh. In the fourth gospel, after Jesus’ death on the cross, John is the first to come to faith in the risen Lord. No doubt Jesus’ love deeply marked John’s gaze. He sees that death on the cross and the grave cannot stop God from continuing to let the source of divine life flow. One can truly come into contact with that source even today if one takes John’s testimony seriously and if one does as he did: look with the eyes of a beloved disciple and believe. Then comes light for the pious, happiness for the upright in heart (Ps 97:11)
FIRST READING I John 1, 1-4
What we have seen and heard, we communicate to you.
Beginning of the first letter of the holy apostle John
Friends,
It existed from the beginning
-we have heard it and seen it with our own eyes ;
we have beheld it
and our hands have touched it –
of this we speak :
about the Word that is life.
For life has appeared ;
the eternal life that was with the Father
has shown itself to us :
we have seen it,
we bear witness to it,
we make it known to you.
What we have seen and heard we communicate to you,
that you may share with us the fellowship
which has been given to us with God
and with his Son Jesus Christ.
And we write to you
to make our joy complete.
INTERLUDIO Ps. 97 (96), 1-2, 5-6, 11-12
Be glad in the Lord, ye pious.
The Lord is king, the earth may rejoice,
glad are the lands around the sea.
Dark clouds form his bodyguard,
law and justice bear his throne.
Mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
the ruler of all the world.
The heavens proclaim his holiness
and all nations behold his glory.
Ever light comes to the pious,
happiness to the upright in heart.
Be glad in the Lord, ye pious,
glorify His holy Name.
Alleluia
Alleluia.
You, God, we praise.
You, Lord, we praise.
You praise the glorious choir of the apostles.
Alleluia
GOSPEL John 20, 2-8
The other disciple rushed ahead of Peter
and arrived at the tomb first.
From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John
On the first day of the week
mary Magdalene walked quickly to Simon Peter
and to the other, the disciple loved by Jesus
and said to them :
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb
and we do not know where they have laid Him.”
Thereupon Peter and the other disciple made their way to the tomb.
They walked on quickly together,
but the other disciple rushed ahead of Peter
and arrived at the tomb first.
Bending down he saw the bandages lying there
but he did not enter.
Simon Peter following him also arrived at the tomb
and did enter.
He saw that the bandages were there,
but that the sweat cloth that had covered his head
was not lying with the bandages,
but somewhere rolled up separately in another place.
Then the other disciple
who had first arrived at the tomb went in ;
he saw and believed.

Laudato Si
Encyclical of
POPE FRANCISCUS
On caring for the common home
227. One manifestation of this attitude is staying still to give thanks to God before and after
meal. I suggest the faithful to take up this precious
habit to resume and live it deeply. This moment of triumph,
even if it is very brief, reminds us that we depend on God for life,
it strengthens our sense of gratitude for
the gifts of creation, it is grateful to those whose work provides
these goods, and it strengthens solidarity with the most
needy.
