Friday after the revelation of the Lord

217 Maandag na de openbaring des Heren

Invitation

May I hereby draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation wants to share with You the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration
‘His come not by water alone, but by water and blood’. This is a mysterious phrase. Both the fourth gospel and the first letter of John emphasise the reality of the incarnation. Jesus is not a heavenly being in a make-believe body. He came by water. He stood as a human being in the line of waiting sinners for John’s baptism. But even more so; He also died the gruesome death on the cross and shed His blood.

FIRST READING                I John 5, 5-13

From the first letter of the holy apostle John

Friends,

No one can overcome the world but he who believes
that Jesus is the Son of God.
It is He who came with water and blood,
Jesus Christ.
He has come
not by water alone but by water and by blood.
The Spirit testifies it
because the Spirit is truth.
For there are three witnesses,
the Spirit,
the water
and the blood
and these three agree.
If we accept the testimony of men
then certainly that of God,
which has so much greater authority ; God Himself guarantees this testimony
which He has given concerning His Son.
Whoever believes in the Son of God
carries God’s testimony in his heart.
He who does not give faith to God
makes Him a liar, for he refuses
To accept God’s own testimony concerning His Son.
And this is the meaning of testimony :
God has given us eternal life in His Son.
He who has the Son
has found life ;
he who does not have the Son of God
neither has life.
I have written this letter to you
to convince you that you have eternal life,
all of you who truly believe in the Son of God.

INTERLUDIUM           Ps. 147, 12-13, 14-15, 19-20

Now praise the Lord, Jerusalem!
or: Alleluia.

Praise now the Lord, Jerusalem!
Zion, glorify thy God !
For He has firmly locked your gates,
blessed thy sons within thy wall.

He lets you cultivate your fields in peace
and feed you with wheat flour.
He sends forth His command over the earth
and hastens his word.

It is He who sent Jacob his word,
his law and commandments for Israel.
Never was there a people He treated like this,
no other does He make His ways known.

ALLELUIA                  Mt 4, 23

Alleluia.
Jesus proclaimed the Good News
of the kingdom
and all diseases and all ailments among the people
he healed.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL            Lk. 5, 12-16

And immediately the leprosy vanished from him.

From the holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

While Jesus was once in one of the cities
he encountered a man covered with leprosy.
When he saw Jesus
he threw himself down to earth and begged Him :
“Lord, if you are willing, you can cleanse me
Jesus reached out, touched him and spoke :
“I will, become clean.”
And immediately the leprosy disappeared.
Jesus forbade him to tell anyone.
“But ,
– so He said –
go and show yourself to the priest
and sacrifice for your cleansing, as Moses has prescribed
to give them proof.”
In ever-widening circles people spoke of Him
and great crowds flocked to hear Him
and to be healed of their ills.
He retreated into solitude each time to pray.

Laudato Si
encyclical by
Pope Francis
On caring for the common home.

240. The divine Persons are relationship in themselves and the world, created on the divine model, is a fabric of relationships. The creatures
strive for God and in turn every living creature strives for the other,
so that within the universe we can encounter a multitude of constant relationships that are mysteriously interwoven. This not only invites us to
to admire the many bonds that exist between creatures,
but also leads us to discover the key to our own realisation.
After all, the more the human person grows, matures and sanctifies himself,
the more he enters into relationship, by stepping outside himself to be
live in communion with God, the other and all creatures. Thus he takes
into his own existence the trinitarian dynamism that God
has put in it. Everything is interconnected and this invites us
to mature a spirituality of global solidarity,
which springs from the mystery of the Trinity.
