Invitation

I would like to draw your attention to The Daily Reading of the Gospel

This invitation is intended to bring you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, without exception, can experience that joy
by opening their hearts
to the healing power of the Word of God.

Available every day

Consideration
The disciples return from their mission and gather once again around their teacher. They tell him about their experiences, their thoughts, their reactions to what they have encountered and those they have met. We draw two fundamental ideas from the Gospel. The first is a custom that we can also introduce into our lives, reviewing the day that has passed in the evening and presenting it to Jesus. The second is that we must seek peace, solitude and silence in good time. How much time do we devote to this each day, each week?

FIRST READING            1 Kings 3, 4-13
Give your servant an attentive spirit,
so that he may judge your people with justice.

From the first book of Kings
In those days, King Solomon went to Gibeon
to offer sacrifices there
because the main altar was there.
Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on this altar.
At Gibeon, the Lord appeared to Solomon
in a dream at night and said to him,
“What do you want me to give you?”
Solomon replied,
“You have shown great kindness to your servant, my lord David.
Since he turned to you,
faithful, sincere, and honest with you,
you have given him a son, who now occupies his throne.
Well done, O Lord, my God,
you have raised up your servant to be king
as successor to my father David,
even though I am only a young man
and do not yet know what I should do or not do.
Thus, in the midst of the people
that you have chosen, a numerous people,
so great that it cannot be counted.
“Therefore, give your servant an attentive understanding,
so that I may judge your people
and distinguish between good and evil.
“For who is able to judge this great people of yours with justice?”
This request of Solomon pleased the Lord.
And God said to him:
“Because you have asked for this
and not long life
or riches
or the death of your enemies
but because you have asked to speak with justice,
therefore I grant your request
and I will give you a mind full of wisdom and discernment
as no one before you has had and no one after you will have.
“And I will also give you what you have not asked for:
wealth and prestige, so that no king will be your equal as long as you live.”

INTERLUDIUM                 Ps. 119(118), 9-10, 11-12, 13-14

Teach me, Lord, to know your ways.

How can I keep the way of your youth?
By paying attention to your word.
With all my heart I turn to you:
Do not let me stray from your commandments.

I keep your words deep within my heart
so as not to offend you.
You are worthy of praise,
O Lord, teach me your precepts.

My lips proclaim all
what Your mouth dictates.
I find my joy in what You command,
which is my greatest treasure.

ALLELUJA               cf. Acts 16, 14b

Alleluia.
Open our hearts, Lord,
and turn us to the word of God.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL               Mk 6, 30-34
They were like sheep without a shepherd.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark

In those days, the apostles gathered around Jesus
and reported to him
all that they had done and taught.
Then he said to them, “Come with me to a deserted place
and rest a while.
Because of the large number of people coming and going,
they did not even have time to eat.
So they got into the boat and went to a secluded place to be alone.
But many saw them leaving and understood where they were going;
From all the towns, people came on foot and overtook them.
When Jesus disembarked, he saw a large crowd.
He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them in detail. ____________________________________________________________________________________

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCIS

On Care for Our Common Home

21. We must also consider the pollution caused
by waste, including hazardous waste present in various areas.
Every year, hundreds of millions of tonnes of waste are produced,
much of which is non-biodegradable: domestic waste and
commercial waste, demolition waste, clinical, electronic and industrial waste, highly
highly toxic and radioactive waste. The Earth, our home, seems to be
becoming a huge rubbish dump. In many places on the
the planet, the elderly remember with nostalgia the landscapes of
times gone by, now buried under waste. The chemicals
used in cities and agriculture can, like
industrial waste, affect the inhabitants of adjacent areas,
even when the level of a toxic element
in a place is low. Often, measures are only taken
when the effects caused are irreversible to human health.
