Consideration
In various places in the Gospel, Jesus is asked for a sign. Such a sign would unequivocally legitimise Him as the Messiah. But He refuses to give such a sign. Those who want to see, can see. Those who want to hear, can hear. He calls His listeners a corrupt generation. The pagans of Nineveh and the pagan queen of the South are an example to them. These words are addressed to us. Do we see and hear what the Lord is asking of us?
FIRST READING Jonah 3, 1-10
The inhabitants of Nineveh repented of their wicked ways.
From the Prophet Jonah
The word of the Lord came to Jonah:
“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city,
and proclaim to it the message that I give you.”
Jonah got up and went to Nineveh,
as the Lord had commanded.
Nineveh was an exceedingly great city;
it took three days to go through it.
Jonah began to enter the city, one day’s journey.
Then he cried out:
“Forty days more,
and Nineveh will be destroyed!”
But the Ninevites sought God’s help;
they proclaimed a fast and all,
from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.
Jonah’s words also reached the king of Nineveh;
he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes,
put on sackcloth and sat down in the dust.
He had this proclaimed throughout Nineveh:
“By order of the king and his nobles!
“People and animals, cattle and sheep,
they may not eat,
they may not graze or drink water.
“People and animals must clothe themselves in sackcloth
and cry out to God with all their might;
everyone must turn from their wicked ways
and from the injustice that clings to their hands.
“Who knows whether God will not change his mind
and regret his decision;
who knows whether he will not turn back from his burning anger,
so that we may not perish.”
And God saw what they did;
He saw how they returned from their wicked ways.
And God regretted that He had threatened them with that disaster.
He did not carry it out.
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 51(50), 3-4, 12-13, 18-19
What I offer, God, is my repentance,
a broken and humbled heart You will not reject.
God, have mercy on me in Your kindness,
wash away my sinfulness in Your compassion.
Wash my guilt completely away,
cleanse me from all my sins.
Create in me a pure heart, my God,
give me back a determined spirit.
Do not cast me away from your presence,
do not take your Holy Spirit from me.
You take no pleasure in gifts,
whatever I offer you, you do not want it.
What I offer, God, is my repentance,
a broken and humbled heart you will not reject.
VERSE BEFORE THE GOSPEL Ezekiel 33, 11
I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked,
says the Lord,
but rather that he should turn and live.
GOSPEL Lk . 11, 29-32
This generation will not be given any sign except the sign of Jonah.
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke
At that time,
when the people gathered together, Jesus began to speak:
“This generation is a wicked generation: it seeks a sign;
but no sign will be given to it
except the sign of Jonah.
“For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
“The Queen of the South will rise up at the judgement together with the people of this generation,
and she will condemn them,
for she came from the ends of the earth
to listen to the wisdom of Solomon:
Now here is more than Solomon.
“The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgement
together with this generation
and condemn it,
for they repented at the preaching of Jonah:
Now here is more than Jonah.”

which are usually monocultures, is not usually the subject of
adequate analysis. In reality, this replacement can seriously affect
biodiversity, which is not accepted by the new species that are planted.
The wetlands that are being converted into agricultural land
are also losing the tremendous biodiversity they once housed.
