Invitation
May I draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation is intended to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception,
can experience that joy by opening their heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day
FIRST READING Deut. 26, 16-19
You shall be a people devoted to the Lord.
From the Book of Deuteronomy
Moses spoke to the people:
“Today the Lord your God commands you
to carry out these regulations and provisions.
“You must carry them out diligently,
with all your heart and all your soul.
“Today you have received assurance from the Lord
that He will be your God,
if you walk in His ways,
keep His statutes, commandments and decrees,
and listen to Him.
“And the Lord has assured you today
that you will be His own people, as He has promised,
and that you will keep all His commandments.
“Therefore, He will give you greater honour, fame and glory
than the other nations He has created,
and ye shall be a people devoted to the Lord your God,
as He has promised.”
INTERLUDIUM Ps. 119(118), 1-2, 4-5, 7-8
Blessed are those who walk in the law of the Lord.
Blessed are those whose way of life is pure,
who walk in the law of the Lord.
Blessed are those who observe His precepts,
who seek Him with all their heart.
You have given Your commands
that they may be faithfully observed.
May my ways be upright,
directed towards what You have decreed.
I will praise You in all sincerity,
accepting what You have decreed.
I will abide by Your decrees;
do not forsake me.
VERSE BEFORE THE GOSPEL Ps. 51(50), 12a , 14a
Create in me a clean heart, my God,
restore to me the joy of your salvation.
GOSPEL Mt. 5, 43-48
Be perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect.
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Matthew
At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“You have heard that it was said:
You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.
But I say to you:
Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your Father in heaven,
who causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good,
and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
For if you love those who love you,
what reward do you have?
“Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
“And if you greet only your brothers,
what more are you doing than others?
“Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
“Be perfect,
as your Father in heaven is perfect.”

On Care for Our Common Home
42. It is necessary to invest much more in research to understand the behaviour of ecosystems and to properly analyse the various variables of the effect of each significant change in the environment. Since all creatures are interconnected, the value of each must be recognised with love and wonder, and we all need each other as created beings.
Each area has a responsibility in caring for this family,
and therefore an accurate inventory should be made of the
species it harbours, with a view to developing programmes
and strategies for protection, paying particular attention to
species that are facing extinction.
