Easter is the most important Christian festival. Christians celebrate it
on the basis of their belief that Jesus rose from the dead
Invitation
May I take this opportunity to draw your attention to the daily reading of the Gospel?
This invitation aims to share with you the joy of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception,
can experience that joy by opening their heart
to the healing power of God’s word.
Available every day
Introduction
Today nothing is as it was before,
for Christ is risen, alleluia!
The light of Jesus dispels all darkness.
The Crucified One conquers death and makes all things new.
On this first day of the week
we discover true life with Christ.
We do not remain standing before the empty tomb,
but are invited to bear witness everywhere
that the Lord lives and gives life.
Let us open our hearts to this Easter joy.
FIRST READING Acts 10, 34a, 37–43
We ate with him after he had risen from the dead.
From the Acts of the Apostles
At that time Peter spoke up and said:
“You know what has happened throughout Judea;
how Jesus of Nazareth began his ministry in Galilee,
and how God anointed Him
with the Holy Spirit and with power.
“He went about doing good,
and healing all those
who were under the power of the devil,
for God was with Him.
“And we bear witness to all that He did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem.
“They crucified Him and killed Him.
“But God raised Him up on the third day
and caused Him to appear,
not to all the people
but to the witnesses whom God had chosen beforehand,
to us who ate and drank with Him
after He had risen from the dead.
“He commissioned us to preach to the people,
and to bear witness
that He is the judge appointed by God
over the living and the dead.
“All the prophets bear witness to Him,
that everyone who believes in Him
receives forgiveness of sins through His Name.”
Responsorial Ps . 118(117), 1-2, 16ab-17, 22-23
Refrain
This is the day the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
or:
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is gracious,
His mercy endures for ever!
Repeat this, O tribes of Israel:
His mercy endures for ever!
The Lord intervened with a mighty hand,
the hand of the Lord has raised me up.
I shall not die but live on,
and tell of the Lord’s deeds far and wide.
The stone the builders rejected,
has become the cornerstone.
It is the Lord who has done this,
a wonder in our eyes.
SECOND READING Col . 3, 1-4
Seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated.
From the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Christians of
Colossae
Brothers and sisters,
If you have been raised to life with Christ,
seek the things that are above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
For you have died,
and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Christ is your life,
and when He appears,
you too will appear with Him in glory.
Sequence
Let us praise the Lamb of Easter,
honour the Lamb of God with sacrifices.
Yes, the Lamb saves the sheep,
Christ, through His innocence,
brings us poor sinners to the Father.
Death and life, O wonder,
must contend together.
He who died, He lives, He is
our King.
Tell us, Mary,
what is it that you have seen?
Christ’s tomb, which was empty,
the glory of Him who has risen,
angels as witnesses,
the sweat cloth and the shroud.
My hope, my Christ alive!
Behold, He goes before you to Galilee.
Truly Christ is risen: He rose from the dead;
O King, our Hero, grant us peace.
Vers fore the Gospel 1 Cor. 5, 7b-8a
Alleluia.
Our Paschal Lamb has been sacrificed: Christ Himself.
We must celebrate our feast in the Lord.
Alleluia.
GOSPEL John 20, 1-9
For he was to rise from the dead.
From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John
On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning – it was still dark – and saw that the stone had been rolled away from the tomb.
She ran to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them:
“They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,
and we do not know where they have laid Him.”
Thereupon Peter and the other disciple set out for the tomb.
They ran together,
but the other disciple outran Peter
and arrived at the tomb first.
Bending down, he saw the linen cloths lying there,
was not with the linen cloths,
but had been rolled up by itself in a separate place.
Then the other disciple,
who had reached the tomb first, also went in;
he saw and believed,
for they had not yet understood
what was written,
namely that He must rise from the dead.

Encyclical of
POPE FRANCIS
On Care for our Common Home
77. “The word of the Lord made the heavens” (Ps. 33:6). Thus,
we are reminded that the world springs from a decision, not from
chaos or chance, and this lends it even greater splendour. There is a free choice expressed in the creative word.
The universe did not come into being as the result of an arbitrary omnipotence,
a display of power or a desire for self-affirmation. Creation belongs to the order of love.
God’s love is the fundamental reason for all creation:
“For you love all that exists, and you abhor nothing that you have made;
indeed, if you had hated anything, you would not have created it” (Wisdom 11:24).
Thus every creature is the object of the Father’s tenderness,
who assigns it a place in the world. Even the fleeting
life of the most insignificant being is the object of his love,
and in those few seconds of its existence he surrounds it with his affection.
Saint Basil the Great said that the Creator is also “goodness
without calculation”, and Dante Alighieri spoke of the “love that moves the sun
and the other stars”. Therefore, one ascends from the created works “to his loving mercy”.
