The Lord has truly risen

Invitation

May I take this opportunity to draw your attention to:
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation aims to share with you the joy of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day

Consideration
In each of the four Gospels, Jesus appears to the group of disciples. It is not so easy to conceive of the Resurrection; even his own disciples, who witnessed everything at close quarters, have their doubts. Jesus’ appearances are intended to convince them time and again, but from now on they also take on an extra dimension, namely that of the mission of his followers. Around the word and the bread, they will gather people; people who stand in wonder or speechless, people who doubt, people who hope or despair. Thus the young Church will set out, listening to Scripture and gathering round the bread and the cup. In its midst, the Lord will always be present and greet it: ‘Peace be with you’. Just as today.

FIRST READING    Acts 3, 11-26

You killed the Prince of Life. Yet God raised Him from the dead.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In those days, when the man who had been healed of his lameness
clung to Peter and John,
the whole crowd gathered around them in amazement
in Solomon’s Portico.
When Peter saw this, he addressed the people:
“Men of Israel,
why are you so astonished at this,
and why do you stare at us, as though it were by our own power or piety
“The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
the God of our fathers,
has glorified his servant Jesus,
whom you handed over
and denied before Pilate,
even though he had judged
that he should be set free.
“But you have denied the Holy and Righteous One,
and asked for the release of a murderer as a favour.
“The Prince of life, however, you have put to death.
“God, however, raised Him from the dead;
of this we are witnesses.
“Because of faith in his Name,
his Name has restored strength
to this man whom you see and know.

“The faith
bestowed by Him
has granted this man the restoration of his limbs
in the sight of you all.
“But I know, brothers,
that you acted in ignorance,
as did your rulers.
“But what God had foretold in advance,
through all the prophets, – that His Messiah would die –
He has thus brought to fulfilment.
“Repent therefore and be converted,
so that your sins may be blotted out,
and so that times of refreshment may come from the Lord,
and He may send you Jesus,
who was destined to be your Messiah.
“Heaven had to receive Him,
until the time of the restoration of all things,
of which God spoke,
through the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient times.
“For Moses said:
A prophet like me
the Lord our God will raise up for you
from among your brothers.
“You must listen to him
in everything he tells you,
and anyone who does not listen to that prophet
shall be cut off from the people.
“And all the prophets,
all who have spoken from Samuel and his successors,
have also foretold these days.
“You are the sons of the prophets
and of the covenant that God made with your fathers,
when He said to Abraham:
In your seed
all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
“For you, above all others,
God has raised up his servant,
and sent him to bestow blessings upon you,
by turning each of you away from your wickedness.”

RESPONSORIAL     Ps. 8, 2a, 5, 6–7, 8–9

Lord, our Lord,
how awesome is your Name on earth!

or: Alleluia.

Lord, our Lord,
how awesome is your Name on earth!
Ah, what is man, that You should take notice of him,
the son of man, that You should care for him so?

You have made him little less than an angel,
clothed him with beauty and splendour;
subjecting all your creation to him,
laying everything at his feet:

Cattle and sheep everywhere,
even the wild beasts of the fields;
birds in the air and fish in the sea,
all that swarms in the oceans.

ALLELUIA            Ps. 118(117), 24

Alleluia.
This is the day the Lord has made,
we shall celebrate it with joy.
Alleluia.

SEQUENCE

Let us praise the Lamb of Easter,
honour the Lamb of God with sacrifices.
Yes, the Lamb saves the sheep,
Christ, through His innocence,
brings us poor sinners to the Father.
Death and life, O wonder,
must struggle together.
He who died, He lives, He is our King.
Tell us, Mary,
what is it that you have seen?
Christ’s tomb that was empty,
the glory of Him who has risen,
angels as witnesses,
the sweat cloth and the shroud.
My hope, my Christ alive!
Behold, He goes before you to Galilee.
Truly Christ is risen: He rose from the dead.
O King, our Hero, grant us peace. Alleluia.

GOSPEL                      Luke 24, 35–48

Thus the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Luke

At that time, the disciples recounted what had happened on the way,
and how Jesus had been recognised by them
when he broke the bread.
Whilst they were speaking of this,
He Himself suddenly stood among them
and said:
“Peace be with you.”
In their bewilderment and fear, they thought they were seeing a spirit.
But He spoke to them:
“Why are you troubled,
and why do doubts arise in your hearts?
“Look at my hands and feet:
it is I myself.
“Touch Me and see:
A spirit does not have flesh and bones,
as you see that I have.”
And having spoken thus,
He showed them His hands and feet.
When they could not believe it for joy and amazement,
He said to them:
“Do you have anything here to eat?”
They handed Him a piece of broiled fish;
He took it and ate it in their presence.
He said to them:
“These are my words,
which I spoke to you whilst I was still with you:
Everything must be fulfilled
which is written about Me in the Law of Moses,
in the Prophets and in the Psalms.”
Then He opened their minds
to understand the Scriptures.
He said to them:
“Thus the Scriptures speak of the suffering and death of the Messiah
and of his resurrection from the dead on the third day,
of the proclamation to all nations
of repentance and the forgiveness of sins in his Name.
“Beginning in Jerusalem, you must bear witness to all these things.
“Therefore I will send to you what my Father has promised;
so remain in the city
until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Now He led them out as far as Bethany;
He lifted up His hands and blessed them.
And whilst He was blessing them, He parted from them;
and He was taken up into heaven.
They worshipped Him
and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
They were continually in the temple
and they glorified God.

On Care for Our Common Home

81. Although human beings also involve processes of evolution, they bring with them
a novelty that cannot be fully explained by the
evolution of other open systems. Each of us possesses, in ourselves, a personal identity, which is capable of entering into dialogue with others and with God himself. The capacity for reflection, reasoning, creativity, interpretation, artistic expression and other new abilities reveal an exceptional quality that transcends the physical and biological level. The qualitative novelty of the emergence of a personal being within material creation implies a direct action by God, a special call to life and to a relationship of ‘you’ to another ‘you’.
being within material creation presupposes a direct act of God, a special calling to life and to a relationship of one ‘you’ to another ‘you’. Based on the biblical texts, we regard the person as a subject that can never be reduced to the category of an object.
