Invitation

May I take this opportunity to draw your attention to:
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation aims to share with you the joy of the Gospel.
Everyone, without exception,
can experience that joy by opening their heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Opening words
We are still in the midst of the Easter season
and are celebrating Easter with joy today as well.
Although Jesus speaks of his imminent departure,
this does not dampen the joy of Easter.
After all, he assures his disciples
that he will not leave them orphaned.
He promises them a Helper: the Spirit of truth.
Those who love Jesus and keep his commandments
will receive the Spirit, who will remain with them always.
Let us pray with confidence for the coming of the Spirit.

FIRST READING               Acts 8, 5-8, 14-17

They laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

From the Acts of the Apostles

In those days, the deacon Philip came to the city of Samaria
and preached the Messiah there.
Philip’s words met with widespread approval
when the people heard what he said
and saw the signs he performed.
From many who were possessed, the unclean spirits
departed with a loud cry;
and many who were lame or crippled were healed.
Great joy arose in that city because of this.

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard
that Samaria had accepted the word of God,
they sent Peter and John to them,
who, upon their arrival, prayed over them,
that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
For the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them;
they had only been baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.
So they laid their hands on them,
and they received the Holy Spirit.

Rejoice in God, all the nations of the earth.

he did not withhold his mercy from me.

Beloved,

Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.
Always be ready to give an answer
to anyone who asks you to give an account
of the hope that is within you.
But defend yourselves with gentleness and respect,
and ensure that your conscience is clear.
Then those who mock your good Christian conduct,
How much better it is, if God wills it,
to suffer for doing good,
than to be punished for wrongdoing.

Christ too died once and for all for sins,
the Righteous One for the unrighteous,
to bring us to God.
Put to death in the flesh,
He was raised to life in the Spirit.

“A little while longer and the world will no longer see Me;

111. Ecological culture cannot be content with a series of partial answers to the problems arising from environmental damage, the depletion of natural resources and pollution.
It must be a different vision, a different way of thinking, a different policy, a different
educational programme, a different lifestyle and a different spirituality
that resist the advance of the technocratic
paradigm. Otherwise, even the best ecological initiatives may ultimately find themselves trapped within the same globalised logic. Merely seeking a technical remedy for every environmental problem that arises means isolating issues that are in reality interconnected, and concealing the true and deepest problems of the global system.
