The Lord is truly risen

Invitation

May I draw your attention to the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation aims to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception,
can experience that joy by opening their heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration
When we have to say goodbye to someone dear to our hearts, the moment fills us with sadness. A void is created that is difficult to live with. The disciples must have experienced this too when Jesus announced his departure from the world. The Helper He promised, the Holy Spirit, raised questions: what were they to make of this? Sadness, uncertainty… but also hope! For us too: we know that the best is yet to come: life in God’s kingdom. Jesus says: ‘You are sad now, but when I see you again, your hearts will rejoice’!

FIRST READING             Acts 18, 9-18

In this city I have many people who belong to Me.

From the Acts of the Apostles

While Paul was staying in Corinth,
the Lord spoke to him in a night-time vision:
“Do not be afraid,
but speak, and do not be silent.
“I am with you,
and no one will lay a hand on you to harm you,
for in this city I have many people.”
He stayed there for a year and a half,
teaching them the word of God.
However, during the proconsulship of Gallio in Achaia,
the Jews united against Paul
and brought him before the court.
They declared:
“This man is trying to persuade the people
to worship gods that are not recognised.”
Paul was just about to speak
when Gallio replied to the Jews:
“If this were a matter of some injustice or serious crime, Jews,
I would, of course, listen to you patiently.
“But if it is a dispute over a word,
over names and over your Law,
then you must sort it out yourselves.
“I do not wish to be a judge in such matters.”
He drove them away from his bench.
Now they all turned on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue,
and beat him up before the judge’s seat.
Gallio paid no attention to it.
Paul remained there for many days,
then took his leave of the brothers,
and, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila, set sail for Syria.
First, at Cenchreae, he had his hair cut off,
for he was under a vow.

INTERLUDIUM                     Ps . 47(46), 2-3, 4-5, 6-7

God is King over all the earth.
or:Alleluia

All you peoples, clap your hands,
shout for joy to God with glad cries.
For great is the Lord and greatly to be feared,
a mighty ruler over all the earth.

He delivers peoples into our hands
and lays nations at our feet.
He chooses our inheritance for us,
the pride of Jacob, his beloved.

God ascends the throne amidst loud shouts of joy,
the Lord to the sound of trumpets.
Sing now to God, let your song resound,
a hymn of praise to our King!

ALLELUIA                   John16:28

Alleluia.
I came from the Father
and entered the world;
once more I leave the world and go to the Father.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                   John  16, 20-23a

No one will be able to take your joy from you.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
John

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
“Truly, truly, I say to you:
you will weep and mourn,
while the world will rejoice.
“You will be sorrowful,
but your sorrow will turn into joy.
“When a woman is in labour, she is in pain
because her hour has come;
but when she has given birth to the child,
she no longer remembers the pain,
for the joy that a human being has been born into the world.
“So you too are now sorrowful,
but when I see you again, your hearts will rejoice
and no one will take your joy from you.
“On that day you will ask Me nothing.”

Encyclical of

On Care for Our Common Home

116. In modern times, a remarkable anthropocentric
excess has developed which, in a different guise, continues to undermine every
reference to the common good and every attempt to strengthen social bonds.
The time has therefore come to pay renewed attention to reality within the
limits it imposes and which creates the possibility of a healthier
and more fruitful human and social development. An inadequate
presentation of Christian anthropology has ultimately fostered a
misconception of the relationship between human beings and the world. Often
a Promethean dream of dominion over the world has been passed on,
which has given the impression that caring for nature is something for the weak;
a correct interpretation of the idea of man as lord of
the universe, on the other hand, is to understand him as a responsible steward
