Invitation

May I take this opportunity to draw your attention to
the daily reading of the Gospel?

This invitation aims to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, without exception,
can experience that joy by opening their heart
to the healing power of God’s word.

Available every day.

Consideration
Once again, the text shifts from Timothy to Paul himself, who is dying a martyr’s death. Timothy must continue to work in his footsteps and follow his example. Above all, Timothy is warned against false teachers. Apparently, these were not imaginary, but very real, although we have no idea what exactly that false teaching was.

FIRST READING                      2 Tim. 4:1-8

Do the work of an evangelist. My blood is about to be poured out
, and the crown of righteousness awaits me.

From the second letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to Timothy

Beloved,

I charge you
before God and Jesus Christ,
who will judge the living and the dead
at his appearing and at his reign:
preach the word,
insist on it, whether the time is right or not,
refute, rebuke, encourage,
in short,
teach with great patience.
For the time will come
when people will no longer tolerate sound teaching.
They will gather round them a host of teachers to suit their own tastes,
who will tell them what they want to hear.
And they will turn a deaf ear to the truth
and turn to myths of all kinds.
But you, remain level-headed in all this,
endure your suffering,
do the work of an evangelist,
devote yourself entirely to your ministry.

For as for me,
my blood is soon to be shed,
the hour of my departure is near.
I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race,
and kept the faith.
Now the crown of righteousness awaits me
with which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will reward me on the great day, and not only me
but all who look forward with love to his coming.

INTERLUDIUM                      Ps . 71(70), 8-9, 14-15ab, 16-17, 22

I will praise your righteousness, Lord.

My mouth was filled with your praise,
I praise you from morning till night.
Do not cast me off in my old age,
do not forsake me now that my strength is failing.

But I will always remain confident,
and each day I will give thanks to you.
I will praise your righteousness,
your help all day long.

I will proclaim God’s power far and wide
and praise your righteousness, Lord.
From my youth I have known this,
and even now I praise your deeds.

Then, to the sound of the harp, I will sing of your faithfulness,
and with the lyre I will praise the Holy One of Israel.

ALLELUIA                         James 1, 21

Alleluia.
Receive the word of God with meekness
which has been planted within you,
and has the power
to save your souls.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL                                   Mk 12, 38-44

That poor widow has offered the most
of all who have put anything into the treasury.

From the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to
Mark

At that time, Jesus also gave this warning whilst teaching:
“Beware of the scribes,
who love to walk about in long robes,
who love to be greeted in the marketplaces,
and who crave the chief seats in the synagogues
and the places of honour at banquets,
but who devour the homes of widows
whilst they offer long prayers for show;
a more severe judgement will be passed on these people.”
He sat down opposite the treasury
and watched as the people threw coins into it
whilst many a rich man put in a great deal.
There also came a poor widow
who put in two small coins, worth a penny.
He then called his disciples to him and said:
‘Truly I tell you:
that poor widow has put in more
of all who have put anything into the offering box;
they all put in something out of their abundance
but she, out of her poverty, has offered all she had,
all she had to live on.”

Encyclical of

POPE FRANCIS

On Care for Our Common Home

Ecology of the environment, the economy and society
138. Ecology studies the relationships between living organisms and
the environment in which they develop. It also requires us to pause
to reflect and discuss the conditions for life
and survival of society, and in doing so, to have the honesty to
question models of development, production and consumption
. It is worth emphasising once again that
everything is interconnected. Time and space are not independent of one another,
nor can atoms and subatomic particles be viewed in isolation.
Just as the various – physical, chemical and
biological – components of the planet are interrelated, so
do living species form a network that we can never fully know
or fully comprehend. A large part of our genetic information is
shared with many living creatures. Therefore, fragmentary and isolated
knowledge can become a form of ignorance if it resists
integrate into a broader vision of reality.
