This invitation wishes to share with you the joy
of the Gospel. Everyone, no one excepted,
can experience that joy by opening their hearts
to the healing power of God’s word.

Consideration

In most religions, one chooses one’s own teacher. With Jesus it is the other way round. He takes as collaborators whoever He wants: among the many disciples who respond to His proclamation, He asks some of them to leave their ordinary occupations, follow Him unconditionally, and pass on the Good News when He will have died. Within that group, the 12 are charged with a special mission, and Peter is commissioned to confirm his brethren in the faith. The place of Peter and his successors in the Church is that of the servant, who, like Jesus, wants to be the least of all. That ministry entails a special bond with Christ. It must be so strong that the sent one becomes a true witness. Only then can what Jesus said to his disciples become true: ‘He who listens to you listens to me’.

Dearly beloved,

The elders among you, I exhort,
– elders as well as them and witnesses of the sufferings of Christ,
also partakers of the glory
to be revealed –
feed the flock of God, of which you are the shepherds;
shepherd it as God wills :
with heart and not by compulsion,
with devotion and not for profit.
Do not play master over those entrusted to your care,
but be an example to the flock.
Then you will, when the chief shepherd appears,
receive the never withering wreath of glory.

The Lord is my shepherd, nothing do I lack.

197. Seen in this way, politics is nobler than the appearances, the marketing, the makeup
of the media. All that only sows division, enmity and
a sad scepticism, unable to invoke a
common project. When we think of the future, we should
we have to ask ourselves on certain days: ‘For what purpose? What do I really focus on?’
Because after a few years, when reflecting on the
past, the question will not be: ‘How many people agreed with me,
how many people voted for me, how many people had a
positive image of me?’. The perhaps painful questions will be:
‘How much love did I put into my work? In what did I make the people
progress? What impact did I have on society?
What real bonds did I forge? What positive forces did I
generate? How much social peace did I sow? What did I work on
the place entrusted to me?’.

Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?

Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging

Men moet het Babelverhaal naast het Pinksterverhaal leggen: de vele talen en de ene taal. De toren van Babel is een toren van de overmoed tegenover God en herinnert aan het paradijsverhaal. De overmoedige mens komt niet alleen in botsing met God maar ook met zijn evenmens. Wanneer de mens echter de taal van de Bijbel spreekt, gebeurt het Pinksterwonder en spreken allen dezelfde taal.

EERSTE LEZING                    Gen. 11, 1-9
Laten Wij neerdalen
en verwarring brengen in de taal van de mensen.

Uit het Boek Genesis
Alle mensen op aarde
spraken éénzelfde taal en gebruikten dezelfde woorden.
Nadat ze uit het oosten weggetrokken waren,
vonden ze een vlakte in Sinear
en vestigden zich daar.
Zij zeiden tot elkaar :
”Kom, laten wij tegels maken en ze harden in het vuur.””
De tegels gebruikten zij als bouwstenen,
met asfalt als mortel.
Nu zeiden ze :
”Laten wij een stad bouwen met een toren,
waarvan de spits tot in de hemel reikt;
dan krijgen wij naam
en worden wij niet over de aardbodem verspreid.””
Toen God de Heer neerdaalde om de stad en de toren
die de mensen bouwden in ogenschouw te nemen,
zei Hij :
“” Nu zijn ze één volk en spreken zij allen dezelfde taal.
“”Wat zij nu doen is nog maar een begin ;
later zal geen enkel van hun plannen meer te stuiten zijn.””
“”Laten Wij neerdalen
en verwarring brengen in hun taal,
zodat de een niet meer verstaat wat de ander zegt.””
En God de Heer dreef hen vandaar
naar alle kanten de hele aardbodem over,
en er kwam een einde aan de bouw van de stad.
Daarom noemt men die stad Babel,
want God heeft daar verwarring gebracht
in de taal van alle mensen
en hen vandaar over de hele aardbodem verspreid.

TUSSENZANG                       Ps. 33(32), 10-11, 12-13, 14-15

Zalig het volk dat de Heer heeft als God,
de natie door Hem tot zijn erfdeel gekozen.

Plannen van naties doet God teniet,
verijdelt wat volken beramen.

“Wat toch zou een mens in ruil kunnen geven voor zijn leven ?

zal ook de Mensenzoon zich over hem schamen,
wanneer Hij vergezeld van de heilige engelen,

Over broederschap en sociale vriendschap

196. Anderzijds getuigt het van grote adel om processen te kunnen initieren
waarvan de vruchten door anderen geoogst zullen worden, in de hoop
op de geheime kracht van het goede dat wordt gezaaid. Een goede politiek
verenigt liefde met hoop, vertrouwen in de reserves van het goede
die er ondanks alles in het hart van de mensen zijn. Daarom “vernieuwt zich een
authentiek politiek leven dat gebaseerd is op het recht en een loyale
dialoog tussen personen, in de overtuiging dat iedere vrouw, iedere man
en iedere generatie een belofte in zich draagt die nieuwe relationele,
intellectuele, culturele en spirituele energie kan uitstralen”.

Consideración

Hay que yuxtaponer la historia de Babel con la de Pentecostés: las muchas lenguas y la lengua única. La torre de Babel es una torre de arrogancia contra Dios y recuerda la historia del paraíso. El hombre, demasiado confiado, choca no sólo con Dios, sino también con su igual. Sin embargo, cuando el hombre habla la lengua de la Biblia, se produce el milagro de Pentecostés y todos hablan la misma lengua.

PRIMERA LECTURA            Génesis 11, 1-9
Descendamos
y traigamos confusión a la lengua de los hombres.

Del libro del Génesis

Todos los pueblos de la tierra
hablaban una misma lengua y usaban las mismas palabras.
Después de haber emigrado desde el este
encontraron una llanura en Sinear
y se establecieron allí.
Se dijeron unos a otros :
”Venid, hagamos tejas y endurezcámoslas en el fuego”.
Usaron las tejas como bloques de construcción
con asfalto como mortero.
Ahora dijeron:
«Construyamos una ciudad con una torre..,
cuya aguja llegue al cielo;
entonces tendremos un nombre

Cuando Dios el Señor descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre

une el amor con la esperanza, la confianza en las reservas de bien
que existen en el corazón de las personas a pesar de todo. Por eso «se renovue una
auténtica vida política basada en el derecho y en el
diálogo leal entre los individuos, creyendo que cada mujer, cada hombre
y cada generación lleva en sí la promesa que puede irradiar de una nueva energía relacional, intelectual, cultural y espiritual».

Consideration

One must juxtapose the Babel story with the Pentecost story: the many languages and the one language. The tower of Babel is a tower of hubris against God and recalls the paradise story. Overconfident man clashes not only with God but also with his equal. However, when man speaks the language of the Bible, the Pentecost miracle happens and all speak the same language.

FIRST READING                   Gen. 11, 1-9
Let Us descend
and bring confusion to the language of men.

From the Book of Genesis

All the people on earth
spoke one and the same language and used the same words.
After they had migrated from the east,
they found a plain in Sinear
and settled there.
They said to each other :
‘’Come, let us make tiles and harden them in the fire.‘’
They used the tiles as building blocks,
with asphalt as mortar.
Now they said :
‘’Let us build a city with a tower ,
whose spire reaches to heaven;
then we shall have a name
and we will not be scattered over the face of the earth.”’
When God the Lord came down to see the city and the tower
which the people were building in view,
He said :

Later none of their plans will be halted.”’

196. On the other hand, it shows great nobility to be able to initiate processes
whose fruits will be reaped by others, in the hope
on the secret power of the good that is sown. Good politics
unites love with hope, confidence in the reserves of good
that exist in people’s hearts in spite of everything. That is why ‘an
authentic political life based on law and loyal
dialogue between individuals, believing that every woman, every man
and every generation carries within it a promise that new relational
intellectual, cultural and spiritual energy’.

Overweging

God maakt echt een nieuw begin. Het wees vruchtbaar, wordt talrijk en bevolk de aarde vormt een echo op Genesis 1, 28. Het wordt hier zelfs tweemaal herhaald. Ook de mens als ‘beeld’ van God komt hier duidelijk naar voor. Het verbond van God met Noach verwijst naar verdere teksten in Genesis, namelijk naar Abraham en Mozes. Er zijn ook andere parallellen: De redding van Abraham en zijn familie uit het zondige Sodom
(2 Pe 2, 5-6), en de redding van Mozes en van gans het volk uit het water.

 

EERSTE LEZING            Gen. 9, 1-13

Ik zet mijn boog in de wolken ;
die zal het teken zijn van het verbond tussen Mij en de aarde.

Uit het Boek Genesis

God zegende Noach met zijn zonen en zei tot hem:
“Wees vruchtbaar, word talrijk en bevolk de aarde.
“Er zal vrees en schrik voor u zijn
bij alle dieren op de aarde,
bij alle vogels in de lucht,
bij alles wat op de grond kruipt
en bij alle vissen in de zee ;
onder uw heerschappij zijn ze gesteld.
“Alles wat leeft en beweegt zal u tot voedsel dienen ;
dat alles schenk Ik u naast het groene gewas.
“Alleen vlees met de ziel
-vlees met het bloed er nog in-
moogt gij niet eten.
“Uw eigen bloed zal Ik trouwens ook terugeisen :
Van alle dieren zal Ik het terugeisen ;
en ook van de mensen, van de mensen onderling,
zal Ik het leven van de mens terugeisen.
“Wie het bloed van een mens vergiet,
zijn eigen bloed wordt door mensen vergoten,
want als zijn beeld heeft God de mensen gemaakt.
“Wees dan vruchtbaar en word talrijk,
bevolk de aarde en word er talrijk.”
God zei tot Noach en zijn zonen :
“Nu ga Ik mijn verbond aan
met u en met uw nageslacht,
en met alle levende wezens die bij u zijn,
met de vogels en de viervoetige dieren,
met alle dieren van de aarde die bij u zijn,
al wat uit de ark is gekomen,
al het gedierte van de aarde.
“Ik ga met u een verbond aan,
dat nooit meer enig levend wezen
door het water van de vloed zal worden uitgeroeid,
en dat er zich nooit meer een vloed zal voordoen
om de aarde te verwoesten.”
En God zei :
“Dit is het teken van het verbond,
dat Ik instel tussen Mij, en u,
en alle levende wezens die bij u zijn,
voor alle geslachten.
“Ik zet mijn boog in de wolken ;
die het teken zal zijn
van het verbond tussen Mij en de aarde.”

TUSSENZANG        Ps. 102(101), 16-18, 19-21, 29, 22-23

De Heer ziet uit de hemel op aarde neer.

De heidenen zullen uw Naam weer duchten,
de vorsten der aarde uw heerlijkheid, Heer ;
wanneer Gij de muren van Sion herbouwt,
wanneer Gij daar weerkeert in volle luister ;
wanneer Gij de stem der geplunderden hoort,
hun smeekbeden niet naast U neerlegt.

Stelt dit dan op schrift voor het komend geslacht
en laat onze zonen de Heer ervoor danken.
De Heer ziet omlaag van zijn heilige hoogte,
Hij ziet uit de hemel op aarde neer.
Hij zal het geschrei der gevangenen horen,
verlossen die aan de dood zijn gewijd.

Het kroost van uw dienaren
krijgt weer een woonplaats,
hun nageslacht blijft voor uw aanschijn bestaan.
Dan wordt op de Sion zijn Naam weer verkondigd,
zijn lof in de heilige stad ;
als volken en stammen daarheen zullen komen
om hulde te brengen aan God de Heer.

De Mensenzoon zal veel moeten lijden.

Uit het heilig evangelie van onze Heer Jezus Christus volgens Marcus

In die tijd trok Jezus met zijn leerlingen
naar de dorpen rond Caesarea van Filippus.
Onderweg stelde Hij aan zijn leerlingen de vraag :
“Wie zeggen de mensen dat Ik ben ?”
Zij antwoordden Hem :
“Johannes de Doper ;
anderen zeggen Elia
en weer anderen zeggen dat Gij een van de profeten zijt.”
Daarop stelde Hij hun de vraag :
“Maar gij, wie zegt gij dat Ik ben?”
Petrus antwoordde :
“Gij zijt de Christus.”
Maar Hij verbood hun nadrukkelijk
iemand hierover te spreken.
Daarop begon Hij hun te leren
dat de Mensenzoon veel zou moeten lijden
en door de oudsten,
de hogepriesters en de schriftgeleerden verworpen moest worden,
maar dat Hij, na ter dood te zijn gebracht
drie dagen later zou verrijzen.
Hij sprak deze woorden zonder terughoudendheid.
Toen nam Petrus Jezus terzijde
en begon Hem ernstig daarover te onderhouden.
Maar zich omkerend keek Jezus naar zijn leerlingen
en voegde Petrus op strenge toon toe :
“Ga weg, satan,
terug !
“Want gij laat u leiden door menselijke overwegingen

Over broederschap en sociale vriendschap

195. Dit helpt ons te erkennen dat het niet altijd een kwestie is van het
behalen van grote resultaten, die soms niet mogelijk zijn. Bij politieke
activiteit moeten wij in gedachten houden dat “voorbij alle schijn ieder
onmetelijk heilig is en ieder onze genegenheid en onze toewijding verdient.
Als ik daarom erin slaag één persoon te helpen om beter te leven, dan is
dat al voldoende om de gave van mijn leven te rechtvaardigen. Het is mooi
om een gelovig volk van God te zijn. En wij bereiken de volheid, wanneer
wij muren neerhalen en ons hart zich vult met gezichten en namen!”. De
grote doeleinden waarvan men droomt in de strategieën, worden maar
gedeeltelijk bereikt. Afgezien hiervan “heeft” wie liefheeft en ophoudt
politiek te verstaan als een puur zoeken naar macht, “de zekerheid dat geen
enkele van zijn met liefde verrichte werken verloren gaat, geen enkele van
zijn oprechte zorgen voor de ander verloren gaat, geen enkele daad uit
liefde voor God verloren gaat, geen enkele edelmoedige moeite verloren
gaat, geen enkel pijnlijk geduld verloren gaat. Dit alles gaat door de wereld
als een levenskracht”.

Consideración

Dios está realmente haciendo un nuevo comienzo. El mandamiento Sed fecundos, multiplicaos y poblad la tierra resuena en Génesis 1, 28. Incluso se repite dos veces aquí. La alianza de Dios con Noé remite a otros textos del Génesis, concretamente a Abraham y Moisés. 195. Esto nos ayuda a reconocer que no siempre se trata de
conseguir grandes resultados, que a veces no son posibles. En
la actividad política, debemos tener presente que «más allá de toda apariencia cada
es inconmensurablemente sagrado y que todos merecen nuestro afecto y devoción.
Por lo tanto, si consigo ayudar a una persona a vivir mejor,
entonces eso es suficiente para justificar el regalo de mi vida. Es hermoso
ser un pueblo fiel a Dios. Y alcanzamos la plenitud cuando
derribamos muros y nuestros corazones se llenan de rostros y nombres. El
grandes metas soñadas en las estrategias sólo se alcanzan
parcialmente . Aparte de esto, «tiene» quien ama y deja de entender la política como pura búsqueda de poder,
«tienen la seguridad de que ninguna
de sus obras hechas con amor se pierde, nada de
su genuina preocupación por los demás se pierde, ningún acto de
amor a Dios se pierde, ningún noble esfuerzo
se pierde, ninguna paciencia dolorosa se pierde. Todo esto pasa por el mundo
como una fuerza vital».

Consideration

God is truly making new beginnings. The be fruitful, become numerous and populate the earth echoes Genesis 1, 28. It is even repeated twice here. Man as the ‘image’ of God is also evident here. God’s covenant with Noah refers to further texts in Genesis, namely Abraham and Moses. There are other parallels too: The rescue of Abraham and his family from sinful Sodom (2 Pe 2:5-6), and the rescue of Moses and all the people from the water.

FIRST READING             Gen 9, 1-13
I will set my bow in the clouds ;

195. This helps us to recognise that it is not always a matter of
achieving great results, which are sometimes not possible. In political
activity, we must bear in mind that ‘beyond all appearances every
is immeasurably sacred and each deserves our affection and devotion.
Therefore, if I manage to help one person live better, then
that is enough to justify the gift of my life. It is beautiful
to be a faithful people of God. And we reach fullness, when
we knock down walls and our hearts fill with faces and names!’. The

Uitnodiging

Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?

Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

OVERWEGING

Na de zondvloed stelt God opnieuw het kwade in het mensenhart vast. Maar ditmaal vindt hij een reden om zich lankmoedig te tonen: Wanneer de ark van Noach terug op de droge aarde landt, bouwt Noach eerst en vooral een altaar om God te danken en te eren. Dit gebaar brengt God tot ‘bekering’: ‘Hij zal de aardbodem nooit meer vervloeken’, ook al blijft het kwaad geworteld in het hart van de mens. Christus zal daarin nog verder gaan: Hij zal het kwade, de zondigheid van de mensheid op zich nemen en ervoor sterven. Hoe ga ik om met het kwaad in mijn hart? Wat helpt mij om dat te overwinnen?

 

EERSTE LEZING           Gen. 8, 6-13.20-22
Noach keek naar buiten; en zie, de aardbodem was droog

Uit het Boek Genesis

Na verloop van veertig dagen opende Noach het venster
dat hij in de ark had aangebracht.
Hij liet een raaf los, die heen en weer bleef vliegen
tot het water op de aarde was opgedroogd.
Toen liet hij een duif los,
om te zien of het water al van de aardbodem was weggezakt.
Maar de duif vond geen plek
waar haar pootjes konden rusten,
en keerde bij hem terug in de ark ;
want het water bedekte nog heel de aardbodem.
Noach stak zijn hand uit,
pakte de duif en haalde ze weer bij zich in de ark.
Nu wachtte hij nog eens zeven dagen,
en liet toen opnieuw een duif uit de ark los.
Toen de duif tegen de avond bij hem terugkwam,
droeg zij een groen olijfblad in de bek.
Toen begreep Noach dat het water
van de aarde weggezakt moest zijn.
Hij wachtte nog eens zeven dagen,
en liet toen opnieuw een duif los ;
maar deze duif keerde niet meer bij hem terug.
In het zeshonderdste jaar,
op de eerste dag van de eerste maand,
begon het water boven de aarde op te drogen.
Nu schoof Noach het dak van de ark opzij
en keek naar buiten ;
en zie, de aardbodem was droog.
Toen bouwde Noach een altaar ter ere van de Heer;
hij deed een keuze uit de reine dieren
en uit de reine vogels,
en droeg op het altaar brandoffers op.
God de Heer rook de aangename geur
en zei bij zichzelf :
“Nooit meer zal Ik de aardbodem vervloeken
vanwege de mensen :
Het hart van de mens is immers geneigd tot het kwade
van jongs af aan.
“Ook de andere levende wezens zal Ik nooit meer treffen,
zoals Ik nu gedaan heb.
“Zolang de aarde bestaat,
blijft er zaaitijd en oogsttijd, koude en hitte,
zomer en winter, dag en nacht.

Daar bracht men een blinde bij Hem
en smeekte Hem die te willen aanraken.
Jezus nam de blinde bij de hand en bracht hem buiten het dorp.
Daar deed Hij speeksel op zijn ogen,
legde hem de handen op en vroeg hem :
“Kunt ge al iets zien?”
Hij keek en hij antwoordde :
“Ik zie mensen, want ik zie ze lopen,
maar ze lijken op bomen.”
Daarna legde Jezus nog eens de handen op zijn ogen.
Nu zag hij scherp en was zo volkomen genezen
dat hij alles duidelijk zag.
Hij stuurde hem naar huis met de waarschuwing :
“Ga zelfs het dorp niet in.”

194. Ook in de politiek is er ruimte om teder lief te hebben.
Wat is tederheid? Dat is de liefde die nabijkomt en concreet wordt. Het is een beweging
die uitgaat van het hart en die ogen, oren, handen bereikt. […] Tederheid is
de weg die de moedigste en sterkste mannen en vrouwen zijn gegaan”.
Te midden van de politieke activiteit “moeten de kleinsten, de zwaksten, de
armsten ons verzachten: zij hebben er “recht” op onze ziel en ons hart te
raken. Ja, ze zijn onze broeders en zusters, en wij moeten ze als zodanig
liefhebben en behandelen”.

CONSIDERACIÓN

Después del diluvio, Dios establece de nuevo el mal en el corazón humano. Pero esta vez encuentra una razón para ser paciente: Cuando el arca de Noé vuelve a la tierra seca, Noé construye en primer lugar un altar para dar gracias y honrar a Dios. Este gesto lleva a Dios a «arrepentirse»: «Nunca más maldecirá la tierra», aunque el mal siga arraigado en el corazón del hombre. Cristo irá aún más lejos en esto: asumirá el mal, la pecaminosidad de la humanidad y morirá por ella. ¿Cómo afronto el mal en mi corazón? ¿Qué me ayuda a superarlo?

Noé miró y vio que la tierra estaba seca.

Transcurridos cuarenta días, Noé abrió la ventana
que había puesto en el arca.
Soltó un cuervo, que siguió volando de un lado a otro
hasta que se secó el agua de la tierra.
Luego soltó una paloma,
para ver si el agua ya se había retirado de la superficie terrestre.
Pero la paloma no encontró
donde sus patas pudieran descansar,
y regresó a él en el arca;
pues el agua seguía cubriendo todo el suelo.
Noé extendió la mano,
cogió la paloma y se la llevó de vuelta al arca.
Esperó otros siete días
y soltó otra paloma del arca.
Cuando la paloma regresó hacia el atardecer,
llevaba en el pico una hoja verde de olivo.
Entonces Noé comprendió que el agua
se había retirado de la tierra.
Esperó otros siete días
y soltó otra paloma;
pero esta paloma no volvió a él.
En el año seiscientos,
el primer día del primer mes,
el agua sobre la tierra comenzó a secarse.
Noé apartó el techo del arca
y miró hacia afuera;
y he aquí que la tierra estaba seca.
Entonces Noé construyó un altar en honor del Señor;
Escogió entre los animales limpios
y entre las aves puras
y ofreció holocaustos sobre el altar.
Dios el Señor olió la agradable fragancia
y se dijo a sí mismo :
«Nunca más maldeciré el suelo de la tierra
por culpa de los hombres:
Porque el corazón del hombre se ha inclinado al mal
desde la infancia.
«Ni volveré a afligir a las demás criaturas vivientes ,
como lo he hecho ahora.
«Mientras exista la tierra ,
habrá tiempo de siembra y tiempo de cosecha, frío y calor,
verano e invierno, día y noche.
«Nunca cesarán».

194. También en política hay lugar para amar con ternura.
¿Qué es la ternura? Es el amor que se acerca y se concreta. Es un movimiento
que emana del corazón y llega a los ojos, a los oídos, a las manos. […] La ternura es
el camino que recorren los hombres y las mujeres más valientes y fuertes».
En medio de la actividad política «los más pequeños, los más débiles, los
más pobres nos ablandan: tienen «derecho» a tocarnos el alma y el corazón.
Sí, son nuestros hermanos y hermanas, y debemos
amarlos y tratarlos como tales».

CONSIDERATION

After the flood, God again establishes evil in the human heart. But this time he finds a reason to be longsuffering: When Noah’s ark lands back on the dry earth, Noah first of all builds an altar to thank and honour God. This gesture leads God to ‘repent’: ‘He will never again curse the earth’, even if evil remains rooted in man’s heart. From the Book of Genesis

After the lapse of forty days, Noah opened the window
which he had put in the ark.
He released a raven, which kept flying back and forth
until the water on the earth had dried up.
Then he released a dove,
to see if the water had already receded from the earth’s surface.
But the dove found no place
where its paws could rest,
and returned to him in the ark;
for the water still covered all the ground.
Noah reached out his hand,
picked up the dove and brought it back to him in the ark.
Now he waited another seven days ,
and then released another dove from the ark.
When the dove returned to him towards evening,
it carried a green olive leaf in its beak.
Then Noah understood that the water
must have subsided from the earth.
He waited another seven days,
and then released another dove;
but this dove did not return to him.
In the six hundredth year,
on the first day of the first month,
the water over the earth began to dry up.
Now Noah pushed aside the roof of the ark
and looked out ;
and behold, the ground was dry.
Then Noah built an altar in honour of the Lord;
He chose among the clean animals
And out of the pure birds ,
and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
God the Lord smelled the pleasant fragrance
and said to himself :
‘Never again will I curse the earth’s soil
because of men :
For the heart of man has been inclined to evil
from childhood.
‘Neither shall I ever again afflict the other living creatures ,
as I have now done.
‘As long as the earth exists ,
there will be sowing time and harvest time, cold and heat,
summer and winter, day and night.
‘Never will that cease.’

With sacrifices I will praise You, Lord.

How can I give thanks
For all that the Lord gave me ?
I lift the sacrificial cup,
the Name of the Lord I call upon.

For precious in His sight
the life of whoever worships Him.
I will fulfil my vows
where all His people see,
in the forecourt of thy temple,
in your Jerusalem.

At that time, Jesus and his disciples came to Bethsaida.
There they brought a blind man to Him
and begged Him to touch him.
Jesus took the blind man by the hand and took him outside the village.
There He put saliva on his eyes,
laid His hands on him and asked him :
‘Can you see anything yet?’
He looked and he replied :
‘I see people, because I see them walking,
but they look like trees.’
Then Jesus laid hands on his eyes once more.
Now he saw sharply and was so completely healed
that he saw everything clearly.
He sent him home with the warning :
‘Don’t even go into the village.’

What is tenderness? It is the love that comes close and becomes concrete. It is a movement
that emanates from the heart and reaches eyes, ears, hands. […] Tenderness is

In the midst of political activity ‘the smallest, the weakest, the
poorest soften us: they are ‘entitled’ to touch our souls and hearts.
Yes, they are our brothers and sisters, and we should
love and treat them as such’.
