CONSIDERATION

Of the disciples who followed Jesus, most practised an independent profession: Andrew, like so many of his peers, was a simple fisherman. From what was written about the apostles, they were not quiet, pious, pensive people, but people with temperament, with talents and flaws, headstrong and selfish, then enthusiastic and persuasive. What was decisive for Jesus to choose them as his disciples was their openness to the world, their daring, their boldness, the simplicity with which they looked at the essentials. In this way, they paved the way for today’s Church. For our witness to be heard, we must joyfully devote ourselves to God’s cause, with a view of the whole and the essential, with the courage and confidence to face people, with the enthusiasm to do what is asked of us: boldly proclaim the message of the Gospel.

FIRST READING                    Rom. 10, 9-18
Faith arises through preaching,
and preaching is done at the behest of Christ.

From the letter of the holy apostle Paul to the Christians of Rome

Brothers and sisters,
If your mouth confesses that Jesus is Lord,
and if your heart believes
that God raised Him from the dead ,
ye shall be saved.
The faith of thy heart brings righteousness
and the confession of thy mouth salvation.
Thus Scripture says:
‘No one who believes in Him will be disappointed.’
There is no difference between Jew and Gentile.
They all have the same Lord,
rich in gifts for all who call on Him.
For all who call on the name of the Lord,
shall be saved.
But how can one call on Him
without believing in Him?
How can one believe in Him
Without having heard of Him?
How can one hear of Him
If no one proclaims Him?
And how shall they proclaim Him
if they have not been sent?
As it is written:
‘How lovely are the feet of those
who bring the good news.’
But not all have heeded the good news.
Isaiah already says:
‘Lord, who has given faith to our preaching?’
Thus, then, faith arises through preaching
and preaching is done at the behest of Christ.
But, I ask,
did they perhaps not hear her?
Yet they did: ‘Their sound spread over the whole earth
and their words echoed to the ends of the world.’

On brotherhood and social friendship

113. In this sentence, I again note with sadness that ‘for too long we have accepted moral
decay by playing a game of ethics,
goodness, faith and honesty. And the time has come to recognise
that this cheerful superficiality has brought us little. This
destruction of the foundation of social life leads us to become
up against each other to defend our own interests’.
Let us focus on promoting the good for ourselves and all of
humanity and thus we will move towards real and integral
growth. Every society must ensure the transmission of values
because, if this does not happen, selfishness, violence, corruption in its various
forms, indifference and finally a life that is closed to any transcendence
closed and entrenched in individual interests,
will be transmitted.

het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?

Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging

Vandaag beluisteren we weer een heel moeilijke tekst, die alleen verstaanbaar wordt als men rekening houdt met de aard van de apocalyptische beelden en met hun symboolwaarde. De getallen ‘duizend’ kunnen onmogelijk letterlijk verstaan worden en zeker niet als chronologische successie. De diepste zin van de tekst komt hier op neer dat door alle wisselvalligheden heen en het op en neergaan van de kerkelijke geschiedenis, de overwinning van Jezus onherroepelijk zal zijn. Elke tijd, ook de onze, is radicaal bepaald door een centraal gebeuren: Dood en verrijzenis van de Heer en krijgt daardoor zijn diepste zin en toekomst.

 

EERSTE LEZING                   Apok. 20, 1-4.11-21, 2
De doden werden geoordeeld naar hun daden.
Ik zag de heilige Stad, Jeruzalem, uit de hemel neerdalen.

Uit de openbaring van de heilige apostel Johannes

Ik, Johannes, zag een engel uit de hemel neerdalen
met de sleutel van de Afgrond
en een grote ketting in zijn hand.
En hij greep de Draak, de oude Slang
– dat is de Duivel, de Satan –
en hij boeide hem voor duizend jaren,
en hij wierp hem in de Afgrond
die hij grendelde en verzegelde boven zijn hoofd,
opdat hij de volkeren niet meer zou verleiden
voordat de duizend jaren voorbij waren.
Daarna moet hij voor een korte tijd worden losgelaten.
En ik zag tronen
en zij namen daarop plaats
en hun werd het oordeel gegeven.
Ik zag de zielen van hen die onthoofd waren
om het getuigenis van Jezus en het woord van God,
die het Beest en zijn beeld niet hadden aanbeden
en het merkteken niet hadden aangenomen
op hun voorhoofd en hun hand.
En zij werden weer levend en heersten met Christus
duizend jaren lang.

Toen zag ik een grote, witte troon
en Hem die daarop gezeten is.
De aarde en de hemel vluchtten weg van zijn aanschijn
en hun plaats werd niet meer gevonden.
En ik kon de doden, groot en klein, voor de troon zien staan.
En de boeken werden geopend.
Nog een ander boek werd geopend,
het boek des levens.
En de doden werden geoordeeld naar hun daden
zoals die in de boeken beschreven stonden.
En de zee gaf haar doden terug,
en de dood en de onderwereld gaven hun doden terug
en zij werden geoordeeld,
eenieder naar zijn daden.
Toen werden dood en onderwereld in de vuurpoel geworpen.
Dit is de tweede dood, de poel van vuur.
En ieder wiens naam niet stond in het boek des levens,
werd geworpen in de poel van het vuur.

En ik zag een nieuwe hemel en een nieuwe aarde ;
de eerste hemel en de eerste aarde waren verdwenen
en de zee bestond niet meer.
En ik zag de heilige Stad, het nieuwe Jeruzalem
van God uit de hemel neerdalen,
schoon als een bruid die zich voor haar man heeft getooid.

Mijn ziel verlangt en hunkert naar uw heiligdom.

“Zo ook, wanneer ge al deze dingen ziet
weet dan dat het Rijk Gods nabij is.
“Voorwaar, Ik zeg u :
Dit geslacht zal niet voorbijgaan vóór dit alles geschied is.
“Hemel en aarde zullen voorbijgaan
maar mijn woorden zullen niet voorbij gaan.”

Over broederschap en sociale vriendschap

Het moreel goede bevorderen
112. Wij kunnen niet nalaten te zeggen dat het verlangen naar en het
nastreven van het welzijn van de ander en van heel de mensheid ook
inhoudt dat men zich inzet voor een rijping van de mensen en de samenlevingen
in de verschillende morele waarden die leiden tot een integrale
menselijke ontwikkeling. In het Nieuwe Testament wordt er gesproken over
een vrucht van de Geest (vgl. Gal. 5, 22), die gedefinieerd wordt met de
Griekse term agathosyne. Dit duidt op gehechtheid aan het goede, het
zoeken naar het goede. Sterker nog, het is het zorgen voor wat het meeste
waard is, wat het beste is voor de ander: hun rijping, hun groei in een
gezond leven, het beoefenen van waarden en niet alleen het materieel
welzijn. Er is een soortgelijke Latijnse uitdrukking: bene-volentia, dat wil
zeggen een houding van het goede van de ander willen. Het is het sterke
verlangen naar het goede, een neiging tot al wat goed en voortreffelijk is,
die ons ertoe aanzet het leven van de ander te vullen met mooie, verheven,
opbouwende dingen.

Consideración

Hoy escuchamos otro texto muy difícil, que sólo puede entenderse si se tiene en cuenta la naturaleza de las imágenes apocalípticas y su valor simbólico. Las cifras «mil» no pueden entenderse literalmente y menos como una sucesión cronológica. El sentido más profundo del texto se reduce a esto: a través de todas las vicisitudes y altibajos de la historia de la Iglesia, la victoria de Jesús será irrevocable. Cada época, incluida la nuestra, está radicalmente determinada por un acontecimiento central: la muerte y resurrección del Señor, y adquiere así su sentido más profundo y su futuro.

PRIMERA LECTURA               Apok. 20, 1-4.11-21, 2
Los muertos fueron juzgados según sus obras.
Vi la Ciudad santa, Jerusalén, que descendía del cielo.

De la revelación del santo apóstol Juan

Yo, Juan, vi a un ángel descender del cielo
con la llave del Abismo
y una gran cadena en su mano.

La promoción del bien moral

112. No podemos dejar de decir que el deseo y la
búsqueda del bien de los demás y de toda la humanidad implica también incluye
un compromiso en la maduración de las personas y de las sociedades
en los diversos valores morales que conducen a un
desarrollo humano integral. En el Nuevo Testamento habla de
un fruto del Espíritu (cf. Gal. 5:22), que se define con el
término griego agathosyne. Éste indica el apego al bien, la
búsqueda del bien. En efecto, es preocuparse por lo que más
valor, lo que es mejor para los demás: su maduración, su crecimiento en una
vida sana, practicando valores y no sólo el bienestar
material. Existe una expresión latina similar: bene-volentia,
que significa una actitud de querer el bien del otro. Es el fuerte
deseo del bien, una inclinación hacia todo lo que es bueno y excelente,
que nos lleva a llenar la vida de la otra persona con cosas bellas, exaltadas,
edificantes.

Consideration

Today we listen to another very difficult text, which can only be understood if one takes into account the nature of the apocalyptic images and their symbolic value. The numbers ‘a thousand’ cannot possibly be understood literally and certainly not as chronological succession. The deepest sense of the text boils down to this: through all the vicissitudes and ups and downs of church history, the victory of Jesus will be irrevocable. Every age, including ours, is radically determined by a central event: Death and resurrection of the Lord and thus acquires its deepest meaning and future.

FIRST READING                Apok. 20, 1-4.11-21, 2
The dead were judged according to their deeds.
I saw the holy City, Jerusalem, coming down from heaven.

From the revelation of the holy apostle John

I, John, saw an angel come down from heaven
with the key to the Abyss
and a great chain in his hand.
And he seized the Dragon, the ancient Serpent
– that is the Devil, Satan –
and he captivated him for a thousand years,
and he cast him into the Abyss
which he bolted and sealed above his head,
so that he would no longer tempt the nations
before the thousand years were over.
Then he must be released for a short time.

On brotherhood and social friendship

Promoting the morally good

112. We cannot fail to say that the desire for and the
pursuit of the good of others and of all humanity also
involves a commitment to the maturing of people and societies
in the various moral values that lead to integral
human development. The New Testament speaks of
a fruit of the Spirit (cf. Gal. 5:22), which is defined by the
Greek term agathosyne. This indicates attachment to the good, the
seeking the good. Indeed, it is caring for what is most
worth, what is best for others: their maturation, their growth in a
healthy life, practising values and not just material
well-being. There is a similar Latin expression: bene-volentia, which means
meaning an attitude of wanting the good of the other. It is the strong
desire for the good, an inclination towards all that is good and excellent,
which leads us to fill the other person’s life with beautiful, exalted,
edifying things.

Overweging

‘Gevallen is Babylon’ (Rome), de grote stad: Toekomstprofetie (vers 21), maar ook verwijzing naar het verleden om het onafwendbare van Gods besluit te beklemtonen. Dit herinnert ook aan de profetie van Ezechiel tegen Tyr. Toch tonen de volgende verzen een zekere tederheid en nostalgie. De auteur roept herinneringen op aan een mooie wereld, die zichzelf ten gronde richtte. De toon wordt weer harder in de zegegang, die tegelijk juicht en de wraak van God beaamt.

 

EERSTE LEZING                  Apok. 18, 1-2.21-23 ; 19, 1-3.9a
Gevallen is Babylon, de grote stad !

Uit de openbaring van de heilige apostel Johannes

Ik, Johannes, zag een andere engel van de hemel neerdalen.
Hij had groot gezag en de aarde straalde van zijn heerlijkheid.
En hij riep met krachtige stem :
“Gevallen, gevallen is Babylon, de grote stad !
“Zij werd een woonoord voor demonen,
een schuilplaats voor allerlei onreine geesten
en voor alle soort van onrein en verfoeilijk gevogelte.”
Toen hief een sterke engel
een steen als een grote molensteen op
en hij wierp hem in de zee en zei :
“Zo zal Babylon, de grote Stad, worden weggeslingerd
en nooit meer worden teruggevonden…
“En de klank van harpenaars en zangers,
van fluitspelers en trompetters
zal nooit meer in u worden gehoord,
en geen beoefenaar van enig ambacht
wordt in u nog gevonden.
“En het geluid van de molen wordt in u niet meer gehoord,
en het licht van de lamp zal in u niet meer schijnen,
en de stem van bruidegom en bruid
zal niemand meer in u horen.
“Want uw kooplieden waren de vorsten der aarde
en door uw toverkunsten werden alle volken verleid.”
Wat ik daarna hoorde,
was als de machtige stem van een grote menigte in de hemel.
En zij riepen :
“Alleluia ! Het heil en de eer en de macht zijn van onze God
want waarachtig en rechtvaardig zijn zijn oordelen.
“Hij sprak het oordeel over de grote Hoer
die met haar hoererij de aarde ten verderve voerde.
“Hij heeft het bloed van zijn dienstknechten
aan haar gewroken.”
En andermaal riepen zij :
“Alleluia ! Haar rook stijgt op in de eeuwen der eeuwen;”
En de engel zei tot mij : “Schrijf op :
Zalig zij die genodigd zijn tot het bruiloftsmaal van het Lam.”

Juicht voor de Heer, alle landen,
dient met blijdschap de Heer.
Treedt onbezorgd voor zijn Aanschijn ;
waarlijk, de Heer is God.

Hij is de Schepper en Meester,
wij zijn kudde, zijn volk.
Trekt met een lied door zijn poorten,
komt in zijn voorhof met zang.

Zegent zijn Naam en eert Hem,

In die tijd zei Jezus tot zijn leerlingen :
“Wanneer gij Jeruzalem door legers omsingeld ziet
weet dan dat zijn verwoesting nabij is.
“Laten dan de mensen in Judea naar de bergen vluchten ;
die in de stad zijn eruit trekken
en die op het land vertoeven de stad niet binnengaan :
Dagen van wraak zijn het
waarop alles wat geschreven staat vervuld wordt.
“Wee de zwangeren en zogenden in die dagen.
“Want er zal grote nood komen over het land
en strafgericht over dit volk.
“Sommigen zullen vallen door het verslindende zwaard,
anderen als gevangenen onder alle volkeren worden verstrooid.
“Jeruzalem zal door de heidenen vertrapt worden
totdat de tijd van de heidenen vervuld is.
Er zullen tekenen zijn aan zon, maan en sterren
en op aarde zullen volkeren in angst verkeren,
radeloos door het gebulder van de onstuimige zee.
De mensen zullen het besterven van schrik,
in spanning om wat de wereld gaat overkomen,
want de hemelse heerscharen zullen in verwarring geraken.
“Dan zullen zij de Mensenzoon zien komen op een wolk,
met macht en grote heerlijkheid.
“Wanneer zich dat alles begint te voltrekken
richt u dan op en heft uw hoofden omhoog
want uw verlossing is nabij.”

Over broederschap en sociale vriendschap

111. De menselijke persoon met zijn onvervreemdbare rechten staat van
nature open voor banden. Aan de wortel daarvan ligt de roeping om boven
zichzelf uit te stijgen in de ontmoeting met anderen. Daarom “is het noodzakelijk erop te letten niet te vervallen tot enkele misverstanden die
kunnen ontstaan uit een verkeerd verstaan van het begrip mensenrechten
en een paradoxaal misbruik ervan. Er is tegenwoordig immers een tendens
steeds ruimer aanspraak te maken op individuele – ik ben geneigd om te
zeggen individualistische – rechten, waarachter een opvatting over de
menselijke persoon schuilgaat die los staat van iedere maatschappelijke en
antropologische context, bijna als een steeds ongevoeligere “monade”
(monàs) […]. Als het recht van een ieder niet harmonisch gericht is op het
grotere goed, wordt het uiteindelijk als onbegrensd opgevat en wordt het
daardoor een bron van conflicten en geweld”.

Ha caído Babilonia» (Roma), la gran ciudad: profecía futura (versículo 21), pero también referencia al pasado para subrayar lo inevitable de la decisión de Dios. Esto recuerda también la profecía de Ezequiel contra Tiro. Sin embargo, los versículos siguientes muestran cierta ternura y nostalgia. El autor evoca recuerdos de un mundo hermoso que se autodestruía. El tono se endurece de nuevo en el pasaje de la victoria, que al mismo tiempo alegra y afirma la venganza de Dios.

Yo, Juan, vi a otro ángel que bajaba del cielo.

« Ella se convirtió en una morada para los demonios,
refugio de toda clase de espíritus inmundos

Entonces un ángel fuerte levantó
una piedra como una gran piedra de molino
y la arrojó al mar y dijo :
«Así Babilonia, la gran Ciudad, será arrojada lejos
y nunca más será encontrada…
«Y el sonido de arpistas y cantores,
de flautistas y trompetistas
nunca más se oirá en ti
y ningún practicante de cualquier oficio
se hallará más en ti.

111. La persona humana con sus derechos inalienables está por
naturalmente abierta a los vínculos. En su raíz está la vocación a elevarse por encima de
sí mismo en el encuentro con los demás. Por eso, «es necesario tener cuidado de no caer en algunos malentendidos que
pueden surgir de una mala comprensión del concepto de derechos humanos
y de un paradójico mal uso del mismo. En efecto, hoy en día existe una tendencia
cada vez más amplia a reivindicar derechos individuales -estoy tentado de decir
individualista-, detrás de la cual se esconde una concepción de la persona
humana desvinculada de todo contexto social y
contexto antropológico, casi como una «mónada» cada vez más insensible
(monàs) […]. Si el derecho de cada persona no se orienta armónicamente hacia el
bien mayor, acaba por concebirse como ilimitado y se convierte
fuente de conflicto y violencia».

Consideration

‘Fallen is Babylon’ (Rome), the great city: future prophecy (verse 21), but also reference to the past to emphasise the inevitability of God’s decision. This also recalls Ezekiel’s prophecy against Tyre. Yet the following verses show a certain tenderness and nostalgia. The author evokes memories of a beautiful world that was self-defeating. The tone hardens again in the victory passage, which simultaneously cheers and affirms God’s vengeance.

Fallen is Babylon, the great city!

From the revelation of the holy apostle John

I, John, saw another angel coming down from heaven.
He had great authority and the earth shone with his glory.
And he cried with a powerful voice :
‘Fallen, fallen is Babylon, the great city!
‘ She became a dwelling place for demons,
a refuge for all kinds of unclean spirits
and for every kind of unclean and detestable fowl.’
Then a strong angel raised
lifted up a stone like a great millstone
and he threw it into the sea and said :
‘Thus shall Babylon, the great City, be hurled away
and never be found again…
‘And the sound of harpists and singers,
of flute players and trumpeters
shall never again be heard in you,
and no practitioner of any craft
shall be found in you any more.
‘And the sound of the mill shall no more be heard in you ,
and the light of the lamp shall shine no more in thee,
and the voice of bridegroom and bride
shall no more be heard in thee.
‘For thy merchants were the princes of the earth

On brotherhood and social friendship

111. The human person with his inalienable rights is by
naturally open to ties. At its root lies the vocation to rise above
himself in the encounter with others. Therefore, ‘it is necessary
to be careful not to fall into some misunderstandings that
may arise from a misunderstanding of the concept of human rights
and a paradoxical misuse of it. Indeed, today there is a tendency
increasingly broad claim to individual – I am tempted to
say individualistic – rights, behind which lies a conception of the
human person that is detached from any social and
anthropological context, almost as an increasingly insensitive ‘monad’
(monàs) […]. If each person’s right is not harmoniously directed towards the
greater good, it is eventually conceived as unbounded and becomes

Mag ik hiermee Uw aandacht vragen voor
het dagelijks lezen van het Evangelie?

Deze uitnodiging wil U deelgenoot maken aan de vreugde
van het evangelie. Iedereen, niemand uitgezonderd,
kan die vreugde ervaren door zijn hart open te stellen
voor de genezende werking van Gods woord.

Overweging

Met de zeven plagen bereikt Gods toorn zijn hoogtepunt. Ook hier kunnen we zeggen: wat voor de goddelozen een ramp is, betekent voor de vromen redding. De verwijzing naar de plagen, naar Mozes en naar de zee is overduidelijk. De plagen van Egypte en de doortocht door de Rode Zee vormden voor de Egyptenaren een ramp, voor Israël de redding. De vromen zingen het lied van Mozes, het lied van hun redding. Ze bezingen niet hun eigen overwinning, maar de kracht van God.

EERSTE LEZING                        Apok. 15, 1-4
Zij zongen het lied van Mozes en het lied van het Lam.

Uit de Openbaring van de heilige apostel Johannes

Ik, Johannes, zag een teken in de hemel, groot en wonderbaar :
zeven engelen met zeven plagen, de laatste,
want hiermee bereikt Gods toorn zijn einde.
Ook zag ik een zee als van glas, met vuur gemengd.
En hen die over het Beest en zijn beeld
en over het getal van zijn naam hadden gezegevierd
zag ik staan aan die zee.
Zij bespeelden de harpen Gods
en zij zongen het lied van Mozes, de dienstknecht van God

Zingt voor de Heer een nieuw gezang

Ge zult zelfs door ouders en broers,
door bloedverwanten en vrienden overgeleverd worden
en sommigen van u zullen ze ter dood doen brengen.
“Ge zult een voorwerp van haat zijn voor allen
omwille van mijn Naam :
geen haar van uw hoofd zal verloren gaan.
“Door standvastig te zijn zult ge uw leven winnen.”

Over broederschap en sociale vriendschap

110. Feit is dat “het eenvoudigweg poneren van economische vrijheid
wanneer de reële omstandigheden velen verhinderen om er werkelijk
gebruik van te maken, en de toegang tot werk beperkt wordt, een tegenstrijdig
verhaal wordt”. Woorden als vrijheid, democratie of broederschap
verliezen hun betekenis. Omdat in feite “zolang ons economisch-maatschappelijk
systeem ook maar één slachtoffer maakt en ook maar één
persoon wordt afgedankt, er geen feest van de universele broederschap zal
kunnen zijn”. Een menselijke en broederlijke samenleving is in staat om
er op een efficiënte en stabiele wijze voor te zorgen dat allen op hun
levenspad worden begeleid, niet alleen om in de basisbehoeften te voorzien,
maar ook opdat zij het beste van zichzelf kunnen geven, ook al zal
hun rendement niet het beste zijn, ook al zullen zij langzaam vooruitgaan,
ook al zal hun efficiëntie van weinig belang zijn.

Consideración

Con las siete plagas, la ira de Dios alcanza su punto culminante. Una vez más, podemos decir: lo que es desastre para los malvados significa salvación para los piadosos. La referencia a las plagas, a Moisés y al mar es muy clara. Las plagas de Egipto y el paso por el Mar Rojo representaban el desastre para los egipcios, la salvación para Israel. Los piadosos cantan el cántico de Moisés, el cántico de su salvación. No cantan su propia victoria, sino el poder de Dios.

PRIMERA LECTURA                 Apok. 15, 1-4
Cantaron el cántico de Moisés y el cántico del Cordero.

Del Apocalipsis del santo apóstol Juan

Yo, Juan, vi una señal en el cielo, grande y admirable :

110. El hecho es que «plantear simplemente la libertad económica
cuando las condiciones reales impiden a muchos para utilizarlo realmente
y limitan el acceso al trabajo, se convierte en un relato contradictorio «.
Palabras como libertad, democracia o fraternidad
pierden su significado. Porque, de hecho, «mientras nuestro sistema económico-social
cree una sola víctima y una sola

With the seven plagues, God’s wrath reaches its climax. Again, we can say: what is disaster for the wicked means salvation for the pious. The reference to the plagues, to Moses and to the sea is abundantly clear. The plagues of Egypt and the passage through the Red Sea represented disaster for the Egyptians, salvation for Israel. The pious sing the song of Moses, the song of their salvation. They sing not their own victory, but the power of God.

for with these God’s wrath reaches its end.
Also I saw a sea as of glass, mixed with fire.
And those who spoke of the Beast and his image
and over the number of his name had triumphed
I saw standing by that sea.
They played the harps of God
and they sang the song of Moses the servant of God
and the song of the Lamb :
‘Great and wonderful are your deeds,
Lord, God, Omnipotent.
‘Righteous and true are thy ways,
O King of the ages.
‘Who, O Lord, should not fear
and not glorify thy name?
‘For Thou alone art holy.
‘And all nations shall come and worship Thee
Because Thy righteous judgments have been made manifest.’

‘For I will give you a language and a wisdom
which none of thy adversaries
will be able to resist or contradict.
Thou shalt even by parents and brothers,
by kinsmen and friends
and some of you will have them put to death.

On brotherhood and social friendship

110. The fact is that ‘simply positing economic freedom
when real conditions prevent many from truly
using it, and limiting access to work, becomes a contradictory
story’. Words like freedom, democracy or fraternity
lose their meaning. Because in fact, ‘as long as our economic-social
system creates even one victim and even one
person is discarded, there will be no celebration of universal brotherhood
be possible’. A humane and fraternal society is able to
ensure in an efficient and stable manner that all on their
path of life are guided, not only to meet basic needs
but also so that they can give the best of themselves, even if
their efficiency will not be the best, even though they will progress slowly
even though their efficiency will be of little importance.
