H. Virgin Mary of Loretohronicle, on the night of 9-10 December 1294
was found on the hill where it stands today – stands at the origin of
Marian devotion in the shrine of Loreto, which celebrates the memory of the mystery of
the Incarnation and of the evangelical example of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Many popes have devoted pastoral care to the shrine of the Virgin of Loreto, which was
was proclaimed patroness of airline pilots by Benedict XV. The Litany of
Loreto is spread throughout the Church.

FIRST READING         Isa 40:1-11
God comforts his people

From the Prophet Isaiah

‘Comfort, comfort yet my City,-says your God,

Speak courage to Jerusalem,
call to her that her time of punishment is over,
that from the hand of God
her sins have been doubly paid for’
A voice calls out :
‘Make way for the Lord in the steppe,
pave for our God a lordly way in the desert,
every valley must be filled,
every mountain and hill to be swept down,
every unevenness must be leveled,
the rock masses become a valley.
And appear shall the glory of the Lord,

123. ‘Entrepreneurship is’ truly ’a noble vocation, aimed at
producing wealth and improving the world for all’.
God supports us, He expects us to develop the abilities that
He has given us, and He has filled the universe
with possibilities. In His plans, every human being is called to promote his
own development, and this includes the application of
economic and technological capabilities to increase goods

En torno a la Navidad hay una serie de fiestas en las que se celebra a María. Pero ella nunca está sola: lleva al Niño para mostrarlo al mundo. Esa es la verdadera imagen de María; el icono de la Madre con el Niño. El Señor vivo, el Hijo de Dios que se ha hecho hombre, no puede prescindir de una madre. Este tiempo nos invita a prepararnos para la venida de Jesús. Desde ahora hasta febrero, se trata de los dos una y otra vez. Hoy, la Iglesia celebra que María fue dotada por Dios, salvaguardada de todo mal. La fiesta de hoy trata del comienzo: se recibe a un niño, que es uno y todo sí, dirigido a Dios. Entra en el mundo una niña que nunca dirá no, ni a Dios ni a los hombres. Incluso antes de vivir en el vientre de su madre, la gracia de Dios ya la había liberado de todo posible «no». Por eso, también nosotros podemos llenarnos de alegría: Él nos lo ha dado todo.

Consideration

Around Christmas lies a string of feasts where Mary is celebrated. But she is never alone: she carries the Child to show him to the world. That is the real image of Mary; the icon of the Mother with the Child. The living Lord, God’s Son who became man, cannot do without a mother. This time invites us to prepare for Jesus’ coming. From now until February, it’s about both of them again and again. Today, the Church celebrates that Mary was gifted by God, safeguarded from all evil. Today’s feast is about the very beginning: A child is received, who is one and all yes, addressed to God. A girl enters the world who will never say no, not to God and not to men. Even before she lived in her mother’s womb, God’s grace had already freed her from every possible ‘no’. Therefore, we too may be filled with joy: He has given us everything.

122. Development should not aim at the increasing enrichment
of the few, but must ‘guarantee personal and social, economic and political
guarantee human rights, including the rights of nations
and peoples’. The right of the few to freedom of enterprise or the
free market cannot take precedence over the rights of peoples and the dignity
of the poor; nor above respect for the environment, because,
‘if anyone owns any part of it, it is only to manage it
for the benefit of all’.

De tweede kaars op de adventskrans brandt.
Met die tweede kaars komt een grote profeet aan het woord:
Johannes de Doper.
Hij wil ons warm maken voor de komst van Jezus.
Maar tegelijk zegt hij: bekeer je.
Zo maakt hij reeds concreter
waartoe wij allen in deze adventstijd opgeroepen worden.
De komende weken zal het licht op de adventskrans nog groeien.
Moge er ook in ons leven meer ruimte komen
en een sterker uitzien naar het ware Licht.

EERSTE LEZING                    Bar. 5, 1-9

God toont zijn glorie in u.

Uit de profeet Baruch

Jeruzalem, leg uw kleed van  rouw  en ellende af
en bekleed u voor immer met Gods heerlijke schoonheid.
Sla de mantel van Gods gerechtigheid om,
zet op uw hoofd de schitterende kroon van de Eeuwige.
Want God wil uw luister laten zien overal op aarde.
Voor eeuwig geeft God u de naam:
“Vrede door gerechtigheid” en “Glorie door vroomheid”.

Op, Jeruzalem, ga op de hoogte staan en kijk uit naar het oosten:
daar zijn uw kinderen weer samen
op het woord van de Heilige,
van zonsopgang tot zonsondergang.
Zij zijn blij nu God weer aan hen denkt.

weggesleept door de vijand,

Het gebeurde
in het vijftiende regeringsjaar van keizer Tiberius:
Pontius Pilatus was landvoogd van Judea;
Herodes gouverneur van Galilea;
zijn broer Filippus
gouverneur van het gewest Iturea en Trachonitis
en Lysanias gouverneur van Abilene;
Annas en Kájafas bekleedden het hogepriesterschap.
Toen kwam het woord van God over Johannes,
zoon van Zacharias
die in de woestijn verbleef.

Hij begon op te treden in heel de Jordaanstreek
en een doopsel van bekering te prediken
tot vergeving van de zonden,
volgens de profetie
die geschreven staat in het boek Jesaja:

“Een stem roept in de woestijn:

PAUS FRANCISCUS 

Over broederschap en sociale vriendschap

121. Niemand mag dus uitgesloten blijven ongeacht waar ze zijn geboren,
en nog minder vanwege de voorrechten die anderen genoten, omdat ze
geboren zijn op plaatsen waar grotere mogelijkheden zijn. Grenzen en
scheidslijnen van de staten mogen niet verhinderen dat dit gebeurt. Net
zoals het onaanvaardbaar is dat iemand minder rechten heeft op grond
van het feit dat zij vrouw is, is het evenzeer onaanvaardbaar dat de
geboorteplaats of woonplaats reeds op zich leidt tot minder mogelijkheden
voor een waardig leven en voor ontwikkeling.

La segunda vela de la corona de Adviento está encendida.
Con esa segunda vela, un gran profeta viene a hablar:
Juan el Bautista.
Quiere prepararnos para la venida de Jesús.
Pero al mismo tiempo nos dice: arrepentíos.
Así ya hace más concreto
a lo que todos estamos llamados en este tiempo de Adviento.
En las próximas semanas, la luz de la corona de Adviento seguirá creciendo.
Que también haya más espacio en nuestras vidas
y una mirada más fuerte hacia la verdadera Luz.

Dios muestra su gloria en ti

Del profeta Baruc

Jerusalén, despojate de tu vestido de luto y miseria
y revístete para siempre de la gloriosa belleza de Dios.

121. Por tanto, nadie debe quedar excluido, independientemente del lugar donde haya nacido,
y menos aún por los privilegios que otros disfrutaron por haber
nacido en lugares de mayores oportunidades. Las fronteras y
divisiones de los Estados no deberían impedirlo. Sólo
como es inaceptable que alguien tenga menos derechos por la
virtud de ser mujer, es igualmente inaceptable que el
lugar de nacimiento o residencia conlleve por sí mismo menos oportunidades
para una vida digna y para el desarrollo.

The second candle on the Advent wreath is burning.
With that second candle, a great prophet comes to speak:
John the Baptist.
He wants to warm us up to the coming of Jesus.
But at the same time he says: repent.

what we are all called to in this Advent season.
In the coming weeks, the light on the Advent wreath will continue to grow.

Jerusalem, lay aside your garment of mourning and misery

On brotherhood and social friendship

121. No one should therefore remain excluded regardless of where they were born,
and still less because of the privileges others enjoyed because they
were born in places of greater opportunity. Boundaries and
divisions of states should not prevent this from happening.
Just as it is unacceptable for someone to have fewer rights on the grounds
virtue of being a woman, it is equally unacceptable that the
place of birth or residence in itself leads to fewer opportunities
for a dignified life and for development.

Overweging
De leerlingen worden gezonden om de komst van het rijk Gods aan te kondigen en om zieken te genezen. Consideración

Los discípulos son enviados a anunciar la llegada del Reino de Dios y a curar a los enfermos. Con la llegada del reino celestial, irrumpe la luz de la verdad y los hombres son liberados del error. Precisamente porque son liberados, podrán caminar en esa luz. El Señor trae consuelo, aliento y esperanza. Nadie llama a su puerta en vano. Tampoco nosotros: ¿quién de nosotros no ha sido herido?

Sobre la fraternidad y la amistad social

120. Una vez más hago mías unas palabras de Juan Pablo II
cuya fuerza puede no haber sido comprendida, y las reservo
éstas a todos: «Dios ha dado la tierra a toda la humanidad,
para que sostenga a todos sus miembros sin exclusión ni
favor». En esta frase, recuerdo que «la tradición cristiana no ha
nunca ha reconocido el derecho a la propiedad privada como absoluto o inviolable
reconocido y claramente subrayado». El principio del uso
común de los bienes creados para todos es el «primer
principio de todo el orden ético-social»; es un derecho natural
originario y prioritario. Todos los demás derechos a los bienes
necesarios para la realización integral de las personas
incluido el de la propiedad privada y cualquier otro derecho, «deben
por tanto, no obstaculizan su realización, sino que, por el contrario,
la facilitan», como afirmó San Pablo VI. El derecho a la propiedad
privada sólo puede considerarse como un derecho natural secundario
derivado del principio del destino universal de los bienes creados, y esto
tiene consecuencias muy concretas que deben encontrar su reflejo en el
funcionamiento de la sociedad. Sin embargo, sucede a menudo que los
derechos secundarios se sitúan por encima de los derechos prioritarios y
originarios, haciéndoles perder su importancia práctica.

EERSTE LEZING                 Jes. 29, 17-24
Op de dag der verlossing zullen de ogen der blinden weer zien.

Zo spreekt de HEER:
“Zie, nog een korte tijd, en de Libanon zal een boomgaard worden,
en de boomgaard zal veranderen in een woud.
Op die dag zullen de doven
verstaan wat er voorgelezen wordt,
na duisternis en nacht
de ogen der blinden weer zien.
De verdrukten zullen zich in de HEER verheugen,
de armsten der mensen
zich verblijden in Israëls Heilige.
Want de tiran is weg, de spotter verdwenen,
vernietigd allen die zinnen op kwaad,
die anderen vals beschuldigen,
de rechter valstrikken spannen in het gericht,
en onschuldigen afschepen met leeg gepraat.
Daarom, zo spreekt de HEER,
de God van Jakobs huis, Hij die Abraham bevrijdde:
Jakob zal niet meer beschaamd staan,
zijn gezicht niet langer blozen.
Bij het zien van zijn kinderen, het kroost dat Ik hem gaf,
zullen zij mijn Naam verheerlijken,
Jakobs Heilige prijzen,
en ontzag hebben voor de God van Israël.
Warhoofden komen tot inzicht, opstandigen tot rede.”
Zo spreekt de almachtige HEER.

TUSSENZANG         Ps. 27(26) 1, 4, 13-14

De Heer is mijn licht en mijn leidsman.

De Heer is mijn licht en mijn leidsman,
wie zou ik vrezen ;
de Heer is de schuts van mijn leven,
voor wie zou ik bang zijn ?

Eén ding slechts vraag ik de Heer,
meer zal ik niet wensen :
dat ik in Gods huis mag wonen zolang als ik leef.

Ik reken er nog op tijdens mijn leven
de weldaden van de Heer te ervaren.
Zie uit naar de Heer en houd dapper stand,
wees moedig van hart en vertrouw op de Heer.

Alleluia             Jes. 45, 8

Alleluia.
Dauwt hemelen, uit den hoge
en laat de wolken gerechtigheid regenen !
De aarde moet opengaan
en het heil opschieten ;
de grond moet de gerechtigheid laten ontspruiten.
Alleluia.

EVANGELIE            Mt. 9, 27-31
Jezus geneest twee blinden omdat zij in Hem geloven.

In die tijd waren er twee blinden
die Jezus volgden en luid riepen:
“Heb medelijden met ons,
Zoon van David.”
Toen Hij thuis gekomen was, kwamen de blinden naar Hem toe.
Jezus sprak tot hen:
“Gelooft gij dat Ik de macht bezit om dit te doen?”
Zij antwoordden:
“Zeker, Heer.”
Daarop raakte Hij hun ogen aan en zeide:
“U geschiede naar uw geloof.”
En hun ogen gingen open.
Jezus vermaande hen op strenge toon:
“Zorg dat niemand dit te weten komt.”
Maar eenmaal buiten verbreidden ze zijn faam in heel die streek.

Over broederschap en sociale vriendschap

119. In de eerste eeuwen van het christelijk geloof hebben verschillende
denkers een universeel bewustzijn ontwikkeld in hun reflectie op de
gemeenschappelijke bestemming van de geschapen goederen. Dat leidde
tot de opvatting dat, als iemand niet heeft wat nodig is om waardig te
leven, dat komt, omdat een ander zich het toe-eigent. De heilige Johannes
Chrysostomus vat het samen met de woorden dat “niet aan de armen een
deel van de eigen goederen geven stelen van de armen is, hen beroven van
hun eigen leven; en wat wij bezitten, is niet van ons, maar van hen”. Of
ook deze woorden van St. Gregorius de Grote: “Wanneer wij onder de
behoeftigen iets verdelen, schenken wij geen spullen van ons, maar geven
wij hun terug wat hun toebehoort”.
